Larry David and his Acceptance of Fore in his golf game
2011-06-29 14:32:00 Research shows that about twenty percent of all golfers regularly score better than ninety for eighteen holes on a regulation length golf course; on a course rated seventy-two, that score translates into an eighteen handicap. Enter the trials and tribulations of Larry David, who, in the current issue of The New Yorker Magazine, discusses the stages of his golf game which led from anger to denial and finally to his acceptance of the word 'fore'. It's amazing how even the most jocular sorts turn dead serious when discussing their golf game and have even injected golf into their "schtick". Ray Romano's character in "Men of A Certain Age" is a scratch golfer attempting to gain entrance to the Senior Tour. Larry David, ever the sad-sack golfer in "Curb Your Enthusiasm", enlightens readers in this article as to why he should probably never again play golf at Riviera Country Club. Both comedians love the sport and both are relatively good golfers: Romano's handicap (12.6)...

Cheryl Hines 001, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" actor: Mr. Media Interview, Part 1
2007-10-31 17:21:00 Cheryl Hines has one of the most challenging acting jobs on television: she plays Larry David?s long-suffering TV wife on the HBO comedy ?Curb Your Enthusiasm,? now in its sixth season. For years, many people have assumed she was David?s real wife, and further complicating the premise this year is the news that David and his wife Laurie have divorced. What does this development mean for the show?Joining us today is the lovely Cheryl Hines who, hopefully, can shed some light on where all this is going -- or maybe not.DOWNLOAD THE MP3; LISTEN HERE.ALSO AVAILABLE AS A PODCAST ON iTUNES.Subscribe to Mr. Media's RSS Feed.BOB ANDELMAN: Cheryl there?s been a lot of chatter lately about whether Larry?s real-life separation from Laurie David would be incorporated in the show. If so, that would seem to threaten your livelihood in some ways. So I wondered what your thoughts about this might be.CHERYL HINES: Well, here?s the thing. We shot this season long before Larry and his wife got divorced...

Cheryl Hines 002, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" actor: Mr. Media Interview, Part 2
2007-10-31 16:52:00 (Return to Part 1)BOB ANDELMAN: Have you dealt with a character like Larry, and I mean a real-life character like Larry before? Had you ever dated someone?CHERYL HINES: No, never. Never. Most of the people I had dated or been friends with were kind of sunnyside-up people. So it was really fun to meet Larry and live in that world.ANDELMAN: Cheryl, how different was your approach to the improv in the sixth season than it was in the first season? And, by the way, I?ll point out I do know that you have The Groundlings experience, and it was not like you hadn?t done improv before. But how did your approach and how did it all change for you over six seasons?HINES: I would say that my approach is the same. When you?re doing an improvised show, it?s really about listening and responding to whatever someone just said so it?s still the same approach. I would say the only thing that may be different is, now that we?ve been doing the show for so many years, I feel like maybe if I said something...

Why Men Should Pee Sitting Down(Larry David)

Jeff Garlin 001, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" actor: Mr. Media Interview, Pt. 1
2007-09-20 21:05:00 Today is a great day to be Jeff Garlin. And for him, tomorrow will probably be an even better day.The sixth season of the hugely popular and hysterically funny HBO series ?Curb Your Enthusiasm,? starring Larry David and co-starring Garlin, is now underway. But even better, I suspect, for Garlin is that his first movie as writer, director, and star, I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With, opened on September 5.The New York Times greeted Garlin?s Cheese this way: laid back and affectionate, Cheese is the movie version of a dear friend you could spend all day with. Not bad for a guy from Chicago.DOWNLOAD THE MP3; LISTEN HERE.ALSO AVAILABLE AS A PODCAST ON iTUNES.Subscribe to Mr. Media's RSS Feed.ANDELMAN: Jeff, there?s a moment in one of the season?s new episodes where you confess to a -- I gotta get right to this -- to a moment of intimacy with a blanket in Larry?s house during Passover.GARLIN: Oh, you saw that one?ANDELMAN: Yes, I did. Larry Thomas, "Seinfeld" "Postal" actor/Soup Nazi: Mr. Media Interview, Pt.
2007-07-29 02:42:00 Not many people have managed to land the words Nazi and funny in the same sentence.Charlie Chaplin did it in The Great Dictator. Mel Brooks did it in The Producers with the song and dance number Springtime for Hitler. And my guest today, the Emmy-nominated Larry Thomas, did it, too. He?s been an actor for 25 years and is a veteran of dozens of films, TV shows, and hundreds of theater performances. Larry recently finished shooting the film Postal and was seen on ?Arrested Development,? ?Hot Properties,? ?Threshold,? ?Scrubs,? and a Lexus commercial as a crazed pre-Bugsy visionary selling the idea of Vegas. Last year, Larry completed a 3- city, 140-show production of Neil Simon?s ?The Odd Couple,? the female version, starring Barbara Eden.Who the hell is Larry Thomas? No answers for you, not yet anyway. Larry Thomas, "Seinfeld" "Postal" actor/Soup Nazi: Mr. Media Interview, Pt.
2007-07-27 05:30:00 (Return to Part 1)ANDELMAN: Now, as funny as Seinfeld and David and the producers thought it was, there was someone there who didn?t think this was one of their better episodes, right?THOMAS: Right. Oh, my God! Who later came back to haunt me again, actually. Michael Richards hated this script so much that he spent the entire working week, it?s usually four days of rehearsal or actually kind of five days of rehearsal, and on the fifth day, you shoot it that night before the audience, but they cut off a day this week because it was in October during the Jewish holidays. And so we only did four days and shot it on the fourth night, but all four days, he was just bending anyone?s ear that would hear him on how terrible a script this was.I don?t know who I felt more sorry for, me or Spike. Not only was I on ?Seinfeld? for the first time, but it was my first really major television guest spot after 15, 18 years of trying to get one. And so I had to listen to it. Spike, of course, went wi...

2007-07-26 21:59:00 Lawrence Gene David, born in 1947 in Brooklyn only to become a sworn in west-coaster. He graduated from University of Maryland in 1971 with a degree in history and business. Until the launch of Seinfeld in 1989, he performed stand up, wrote for ABC's Friday and briefly wrote for SNL. In 89 Larry and Jerry wrote the pilot for Sienfeld and to Larry's dismay the show got picked up and become one of the greatest shows in TV history. Larry is said to be the inspiration for George and he also did the voice of Steinbrenner. In 2000 he premiered Curb Your Enthusiasm which has been a critical success. The series will continue for a 6th season albeit claims. Larry also wrote and directed a feature film "Sour Grapes" but it was none too good.Enjoy

Ricky Gervais interviews Larry David
2007-02-09 12:51:01 Last month, the BBC aired an hour long special in which Ricky Gervais (the genius behind The Office and Extras) interviewed one of his comedy idols, Larry David. The two comedians discuss their love of awkward humor, hatred of conventional sitcoms, and disgust with people who get annoyed when you ask them if they have the time. The best part is watching them make each other laugh. Here’s a taste: Ricky Gervais: I think you have to be a certain age to be funny. So few people under the age of 30 are funny. Larry David: You have to discover when you’re inadequate to be funny and you don’t know you’re inadequate when you’re a kid. Ricky Gervais: Exactly. Who wants to see unfeasibly good-looking, clever, popular people doing things brilliantly? Who cares? Larry David: I started to become funny when I realised I was inferior and inadequate. Ricky Gervais: Mine was when I got fat. Check out the Ricky Gervais meets Larry David video at DailyMotion. There...
