As recently as the end of 2006, the gap between those two rates had shrunk to an historic low of a half percentage point. • Latinos lost nearly 250,000 jobs over the past year because of construction’s slump. It’s quite a switch. Latinos found nearly 300,000 new jobs in the construction industry from the first quarter of 2006 to the first quarter of 2007.
