Lazy sunday at Nightwood
2009-08-16 23:54:00
We here at Munch Time love brunch time. Any meal that's based on leisure, features eggs and is an excuse to drink during the day is what sweet dreams are made of. Brunch is also a great way to entertain at home because you won't have to buy that much booze (one cocktail before noon is good. Multiple ones may mean you have a problem.) and egg dishes are budget-friendly and fairly easy to prepare (just don't burn them!).But when you're lazy and up way too late the night before, there's nothing wrong with trekking out and having someone else do the dirty work. Today was one of those days as well as the first day Nightwood, from the people...
Table Tap: For The Lazy Drinker, Self-Serve Bars Are At It Again!
2009-08-06 12:00:00
We've seen Minibar, a self-serve drinking establishment that gives patrons access to their own mini bar, so they never have to worry about waiting around for a server to bring them their next drink. But that business model came with one fatal flaw; in order to get their next drink, bar patrons needed to get up in move. So now there's a new style of drinking establishment more in tune with the lazy drinker.
Lazy Days of Summer in the Windy City
2009-07-08 15:59:00
Recently we alluded to an upcoming photo shoot with New York City (via Chicago) photographer, Karl Rothenberger (have we mentioned how much we love him?!) We had planned an outdoor shoot but the weather in Chicago has been a little tricky and unpredictable, so we were nervous. As it turned out, our worries were completely unfounded. We managed to shoot on the one day when it was absolutely beautiful -- not too hot, not too humid, not too cold, and not raining (if you live here, you know what we're talking about). We shot at one of Chicago's most beautiful and picturesque spots (and a very well-kept secret), the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool at the Lincoln Park Zoo. So serene and quiet...

Saturday Lazy Morning Headlines
2009-04-25 15:55:00
Dammit, dammit, dammit. For one day, Milton Bradley is not the subject. No complaints of unfair coverage, no coverage of the complaints of unfair coverage, no board game jokes, nothing.  Instead, we get Lou Piniella shaking up the lineup, but possibly shaking a bit too hard... Cubs fans have been clamoring for a lienup change for some time, and Lou Piniella decided it was time to send Fonzie down a couple spots. The Chicago Cubs had Alfonso Soriano hitting third for the first time in his two seasons with the team Friday night against St. Louis. And did it work?  Who knows?  Much bigger issues came up... The loss was the Cubs' third in a row and sent their record to 8-7, 3 games behind the Cardinals in the National League Central. The Cubs also lost third baseman Aramis Ramirez to a strained left calf and reliever Carlos Marmol to a left-knee strain, suffered in the eighth, when his spikes appeared to get caught in the dirt, causing him to twist his left leg. Two inju...

Denis Leary Says Autistic Kids are Stupid and Lazy, Says Autism is Misdiagn
2008-10-16 23:50:00
Denis Leary's ignorant statement about autism causes major uproar."There is a huge boom in autism right now because inattentive mothers and competitive dads want an explanation for why their dumb-ass kids can't compete academically, so they throw money into the happy laps of shrinks . . . to get back diagnoses that help explain away the deficiencies of their junior morons. I don't give a [bleep] what these crackerjack whack jobs tell you - yer kid is NOT autistic. He's just stupid. Or lazy. Or both."I posted this quote simply to remind myself that this is the world I live in. Some people are extremely ignorant and comfortable and proud of their close-minded, insensitive views. As offensive as Denis' statement is, I'm glad that he made it because it proves how little many people know about Autism. One of my mom's BFFs' daughter has autism. She, too, got the disease from a vaccination shot. I love her so much. She goes crazy when she sees me, playing with my hair, giving me non...

In 2006, I was assigned to the coastal town of Kep and the whole family - me, my husband, and our dog Max - relocated. We stayed in a guesthouse on a hill with a sweeping view of the Bokor mountain and the Gulf of Thailand. Almost every day, after lunchtime, we all retreated to our hammocks on the mini-patio and spent the lazy afternoon enjoying the view. The breath-taking view and the refreshing sea breeze lulled us all to sleep, Max included.

Sweetie really loves to play games on the computer. At pbskids.org, nickjr.com, and peepandthebigwideworld.com, to name just a few. She knows how to get to these sites, how to navigate around the pages and games, how to read directions, and she is altogether quite self sufficient in her quest for on-line games and educational activities. Even deftly mastering the right-handed mouse when she's a tried and true lefty. Pretty impressive, huh?(Now, now... don't get all uppity on me. Either myself or Hubby is always in the room with her whenever she's on the computer, she only knows how to get to her sites, she knows to click on only the sites meant for her, and she is very good about asking to go on the computer in the first place, then getting off-line when told to do so). But, as self sufficient as she is, there are time (many of them, actually) when Sweetie will come upon a game that she doesn't quite understand how to play. Or that requires school-aged knowledge she's not yet ha...

Lazy loading vs. pre-loading beans with Spring Framework
2008-09-09 14:16:00
Spring framework can instantiate and bind (called loading) related Java objects (called beans) according to a given configuration. An XML file can easily be used to define these bindings. Spring framework supports two different types of loading methods; lazy loading and pre-loading respectively managed by BeanFactory and ApplicationContext containers. Lazy, hazy day on the Canal
2008-06-09 00:23:00
The paper callled for a high the low 90’s today, but it only reached a mere 87,   Hiked several miles on the Erie Canal Towpath, a/k/a  the Canal.   I was struck of distinct lack of dogs, too hot for Fido.   Saw an assortment of hikers and bicylists.   However nobody, myself included, seemed in a hurry.   Just a lazy, hazy day on the Canal. Lazy Friday poll ~ your bespoke perfume
2008-06-06 21:22:00
Things I did not do this week: I did not finish the second part of Things I wish I'd known as a newbie perfumista. Nor did I finish the follow-up post to Perfumista tip: on lists of fragrance notes, why they matter & why they don't. I did, however, watch most of the first season of Flight of the Conchords (any fans?), and I made serious headway in clearing out untried perfume samples. So the week was not totally wasted. Still, here we are on Friday with nothing to post, again, so I'm taking a suggestion from reader Santemon for a poll topic: describe the custom fragrance of your dreams, and name the perfumer you'd choose to have develop it for you. I've already mentioned one of my dream perfumes. It's a "very green jasmine, bright and sparkling and just a bit indolic, over masses of dusty incense and a tiny dollop of dark woods". I am really torn on the perfumer choice, but after much thought I've decided on Daphne Bugey. Note: image of bearded iris, Two-tones (cro...

Shwayze's <i>Lazy Days</i> Inspired By Malibu Party-Hopping Wit
2008-05-27 11:31:00
Radio hit, Warped Tour gig and reality-TV show poise trailer-park-raised songwriter for breakout.By Chris Harris Cisco Adler and Shwayze Photo: MTV News From afar, Malibu, California, seems like a mystical place, a sun-splashed, paparazzi-cluttered playground for the rich and famous. And while Malibu is just that for some, real people live there too — hardworking Americans who are just trying to keep the lights on and food on the table. For much of his life, Aaron Smith, the self-professed "only black kid in Malibu" who goes by the stage name Shwayze, has been the latter, hailing from the city's Point Dume Club mobile-home park, where he lived with his grandparents. But these days he's crashing on Cisco Adler's couch, and while he doesn't have his own Wikipedia page yet, all of that may soon change for backpack hip-hopper Shwayze. With a single ("Buzzin' ") that's generating radio spins nationwide, a video that's something of a rotation staple for "TRL," a st...
Because I'm a lazy shit
2008-05-26 20:40:00
A 75 year old man was admitted to hospital with SOB, severe fatigue, muscle weakness and swollen ankles. At night he says he requires four pillows and often wakes due to shortness of breath. His history revealed that for several years he has experienced episodes of chest pain and shortness of breath on exertion. On examination he was noted to have slight cyanosis, distension of neck veins, tachypnoea (20/min), tachycardia (110BPM), ankle oedema and rales at the lung bases bilaterally. His BP was 115/80. The chest x-ray examination showed an enlarged heart and diffuse density at both lung bases. An ECG showed normal sinus rhythm. Treatment included bed rest and administration of digitoxin and a diuretic.******************Once- again, if anyone can help explain this scenario it would be of great help. I think I understand it on the most part, being that it's heart failure. We've done right-heart failure before, so am I right in assuming this is left-sided?

Too Lazy to Think Up a Title
2008-05-16 20:26:00
2008 winner, Laziest Homeless Guy in Atlanta award: the guy who sat on a curb and yelled "hey! man! Give me some money" across half a parking lot today. As someone who's rather lazy himself, I applaud his commitment to energy conservation, but it didn't pay off here since I'm also too lazy to walk across a parking lot.I haven't exactly been Captain Fun Super Blogger lately -- work is a killer and when I'm not working I'm tied up with various project-type things that don't make for good blogging. And then when I'm not doing those I'm staying up til 4 a.m. drinking Maudite (which is apparently Quebec-language for either "skull-cleaver" or "don't drink four of these right in a row, merde-head") and, seriously, playing Worldwide Soccer Manager, which is about as addictive as heroin and about as productive (though since FC Brno are now Czech first division champions thanks to my leadership, maybe all the naysayers will back off). I saw my friend Sherri yesterday, and she gently...
Lazy Thursday poll ~ is it a good year for fragrance, so far?
2008-05-16 01:28:00
I thought 2006 was a great year for niche fragrance, maybe not so wonderful for mainstream perfumes. In 2007, the pendulum swung: I thought it was a fabulous year for mainstream fragrances; the niche showings were perhaps not so interesting. This year is not even half over so perhaps it is too early to start kvetching, but other than a few isolated bright spots, it seems like a dull year all around. I was looking this morning at the (considerable) list of fragrances we're expecting to launch between now and the end of the year, and there are really only a few I'm excited about. What do you think? Good, bad, indifferent? And are there any upcoming launches you are really excited about? Note: image via the forums at Images de Parfums.
THE LAZY PERSON’S GUIDE TO GEO SITES
2008-05-14 21:41:00
It's entertaining to see all these new geo-focused sites trying to build out their social networks and their databases of local content. There's still a huge disconnect between the sites that make data entry easy and the ones that do a good job of helping you find what and who you are looking for. Everyblock gathers hyper-local news and info. Being lazy, I favor the geo-focused sites that don't require that I do any work. Everyblock (review) wins the lazy-geo award from me: It scans local news sources and public records and shows me what's happening in my 'hood. My participation with the site consists solely of entering my address. Outside.in (news) has a similar function, but its user interface is less clear. What I really want, though, is a geo-enabled Yelp, both on my desktop browser and in my mobile phone. Yelp has all the location data I could possibly want; it just doesn't have a very good location-focused interface, or the capability to auto-locate me when I am on m...

ILLEGAL HANDICAPPED PARKING PLAGUES SC, OFFICIALS DO NOTHING I’ve always said that doctors hand out handicapped parking placards like Michael Jackson hands out candy at his Neverland Ranch, and the Charleston Post and Courier has finally decided to back me up here. According to their Watchdog Report, “a growing number of hospital workers, downtown merchants and others are using parking placards for the handicapped to cheat the city out of thousands of dollars in parking meter revenue. Worse, these scammers are taking spaces that could be used by people with real disabilities, a Post and Courier Watchdog investigation found.” According to me, “I told you so.” Doctors sign off on placard applications for vague disabilities, such as “high stress.” Young people use their older relatives’ placards on shopping trips downtown, or in one case, for a prime spot next to a West Ashley fitness center. Motorists with blue or red placards for the d...
