Educational Leadership seems like an oxymoron sometimes
2009-10-12 19:55:00 The New York Times carried this story, of a 6 year old suspended after bringing camping silverware to school. I was on a school board for 8 years, and I am well aware of the difficulties that arise in local districts. Budgets are tight, and legal challenges can wick funds away from education. The easiest path is a "zero tolerance" schemata. Sometimes that is a ridiculous cop out.If schools wish to enjoy respect, they will have to learn to be more fearless in their leadership. Maybe what I mean is that they will have to use their heads. That would be a good example for their clientele. Especially Zachary....

We just completed our meeting of the House Republican Conference and had a good discussion about the issues before the House this week and before the country.I was home in Indiana yesterday - our state was rocked with the news that one of our leading employers, Eli Lilly and Company, was going to lay off more than 5,000 employees. Projections include upwards to 2,000 Hoosiers will lose their jobs by the year 2011. When I was in Evansville, Indiana, just a few weeks ago in August, we received word that the Whirlpool plant, a plant that had been there for more than half of a century, was closing permanently, ending 1,100 jobs from S...

Leadership: The Value of a Good System by By John C. Maxwell
2009-09-09 04:52:00 Almost nightly, the fate of the American health care system headlines the evening news. With costly inefficiencies plaguing the system, employers and workers alike have felt the pain of skyrocketing premiums. Politicians on opposite ends of the political spectrum disagree on the best policies for the future, but there seems to be consensus that the ...

UK Sathya Sai Organization?s New Age leadership
2009-08-11 21:47:00 One has to wonder why this organization has chosen as its leader a person who exhibits all the signs of an unbridled New Age spirituality, Reverend Rosemary Perry? Probably, having a ‘reverend’ – ordained as an Interfaith Minister - is seen to help this embattled cult’s credibility as not being overwhelmingly a Hindu-oriented religious sect. ...

2009-07-29 23:53:00 Republican Leadership Stakeout Health Care Reform PODCAST MP3 9.67 mb.FULL TEXT Transcript: Conference Chairman Pence: Good Morning, everyone.I'm Mike Pence, House Republican Conference Chairman, and we just concluded our weekly meeting of the House Republican Conference, with a special emphasis today on the debate over health care reform here in Washington, D.C. House Republicans support health care reform. It'll lower the cost of health care for every American and in particular, it will lower the cost of health insurance to small businesses, family farmers and working families. The Democrat plan for health care reform amounts to a government takeover of health care in this country, paid for with more than a trillion dollars in higher taxes and it must be opposed. Under the Democrat plan, according to independent analysis, you'll probably lose your health care and you might just lose your job.Rep. John Boehner, Rep. Marsha Blackburn , Rep. Eric Cantor, Gov. 2009-06-25 01:00:00 House Republican Leaders are joined by Gov. Jim Douglas (R-VT) and Gov. Mike Rounds (R-SD) as they discuss health care and energy.Full Text Transcript:Republican Leader Boehner:We?re joined today by Governor Jim Douglas from Vermont and Governor Mike Rounds from South Dakota. They, like the American people, know that if the government gets involved in our health care we?re going to see nothing but rationed care, higher taxes and less quality in our health care delivery. So, it?s really important that we allow governors to have the flexibility to deal with this issue in their home states, and I think the governors will talk about that. But at 852 pages, the Democrat health care plan will do just the opposite. It is a complete government takeover of our health care system, which is going to lead to higher taxes, rationing and a lower quality in our health care system. House Republicans have a proposal we?ve put on the table that will provide affordable access to high quality health ins...

Leadership without power
2009-06-10 19:57:00 Hi guys, Can anyone help me to find some words and phrases for leadership without power?
Leadership is a Results Contest
2009-05-26 14:50:00 Guest Post By Tony JearyIf you go to Amazon.com and search in books using the word 'leadership' you get over 300,000 possibilities. If you are interested in getting a formal education in leadership, you can earn Phd or Masters degrees in such disciplines as Organizational Leadership, Change Leadership, Leadership Communication and others. You can even earn a Servant Leadership Certificate if you need one of those. The point is that leadership is a big subject and it means many different things to different people. The dictionary definition of the word lead is: To show the way by going in advance, and to guide or direct on a path. So, in its purest sense leadership engages the ability to do those two things. It's important to understand what the core issue of leadership is. By that I mean the most foundational issue of leadership that is easy to understand and easy to measure. One of the undeniable facts of leadership is that leaders are measured and subjected to criticism and scru...

2009-04-28 21:00:00 Boehner Statement on the President?s First 100 Days in Office Apr 28, 2009 Washington.Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) released the following statement on President Obama?s first 100 days in office:?America has lost more than two million jobs in the last three months, so this is no time for Democrats in Washington to be taking a victory lap. It?s time to hit the ?reset button? and for the Administration to begin keeping its promises of a ?new era of responsibility,? more transparency, and more bipartisan cooperation by working with Republicans to ensure that Washington is making the same sacrifices that families and small businesses are forced to make every day.?The President?s first 100 days can be summed up in three words: spending, taxing, and borrowing. While middle-class families and small businesses struggle during this economic crisis, the Administration and Democrats in Congress have spent more taxpayer dollars in 100 days than all previous presidents have spent c...

Domestic Violence? Church Leadership show perfect example of how they don'
2008-11-27 01:04:00 The Church Leader Gazette wrote an article about domestic violence, and some of it maybe comment sense, but the rest of it is nonsense!Men are definitely at fault in most cases of domestic violence. As welearned in elementary school, boys should not hit girls?a man should never hit a woman under any circumstances. But contrary to popular belief, women are oftentimes at fault by provoking the man. Some women provoke a negative response from their husbands inadvertently, because they do not know how to deal with a man probably because they never had a father in the home to teach them or they never had a mother, older sister or older woman to teach them how to handle a man. However, some women intentionally provoke their husbands by pushing buttons that they know will cause a negative reaction. First off, I know I have taught my son never to HIT anyone...except in self defense. There is no need for hitting, and to say that people PUSHED your buttons to do that? For goodness sakes! How ...
Quantum of Solace:Women in Leadership - a Woman’s Review
2008-11-15 15:56:00 On principle against the overt sexism, machismo, and "escapism" relationships with women, I avoided historical James Bond movies entirely, until in a moment of kindness, I agreed to see Daniel Craig's first Bond movie with my husband. Casino Royale was better than I expected and the women didn't seem to be such classic "play things" I thought I briefly witnessed in the earlier Bond films. On opening day, I once again found myself in front of Bond on screen in Quantum of Solace and found that I loved the movie. I enjoyed the complicated storyline and while the action scenes were abundant, they didn't last so long that I found my mind wandering too far from the story.I like Daniel Craig's portrayal of James Bond best in Quantum of Solace because he seemed powerful, intelligent, in control, and sophisticated without appearing smug and conceited. His performance is so convincing because he didn't even seem to be trying to be Bond – he just is Bond. But the actor that arrested me mo...
