So when Furcal showed up in the clubhouse Monday afternoon with a new haircut, Manager Joe Torre feigned surprise. "I'm sorry, but there are no visitors allowed," Torre joked.Furcal may soon be doing more than visiting. He resumed batting practice Sunday and was on the field in uniform during pregame drills Monday. Last season, Furcal started the schedule on the disabled list with a sprained left ankle then returned to the lineup before the ankle was fully healed and was never at full strength. As a result, Furcal said he's being more cautious this time."I'm guessing it's going to be a very methodical process here," Torre said.Furcal, originally resistant to the idea of a minor league rehab assignment, said Monday he thought it was a good idea but refused to guess when he might be ready.

2008-04-12 13:27:00 Friday night Duaner Sanchez not only moved up in the minors but may have started his back-to-back challenge. After three games for St. Lucie in A-ball, Sanchez tossed a scoreless inning for Triple-A New Orleans against Round Rock. He fired 12 pitches, issuing a walk, and is now expected to pitch again Saturday. As Met manager Willie Randolph said Friday, "That's the real test for him." Randolph said he hoped Sanchez could be back with the Mets next week, which would mark his return to the majors since his 2006 car accident. If successful Saturday, Sanchez could rejoin the Mets as early as Tuesday. Overall in the minors this year, Sanchez has pitched in four games, giving up two runs in five innings.
