Verizon says Happy New year by adding 100 hybrids to fleet
2008-01-17 21:08:00 Verizon has decided to save some gasoline and greenhouse-gas emissions by adding 100 hybrid sedans to the company fleet as it replaces old models. The company expects to reduce emissions by 263,000 Metric tons and save 30,000 gallons of fuel annuallyThe chosen model is the Toyota Prius because, the company says, they "can travel nearly double the miles per gallon and emit less than half of the carbon of most traditional sedans." Last year, Verizon began using 13 specially designed service vans with a retrofitted hybrid-engine in Maryland and Texas. The company also uses B20 for service vehicles and vegetable-based lubricants for cable operations.Verizon also said that in 2006 they reduced emissions already by 334,000 metric tons and saved 6,000 trees by reducing the amount of paper used for billing.[Source: Verizon]

This will allow some rotation of aircraft on the Sydney route, SIA said. The second aircraft is expected to arrive in Singapore around 9 am today. It seats 471 passengers in three different classes like the first A380, which took to the skies in October last year. In a release, SIA also said that the addition of the second double-decker jet would create opportunities for crew training. The airline’s third A380, which will join the stable late next month, is to be used for a daily service between Singapore and London Heathrow. Chrysler – along with Ford and General Motors — has already announced that it will cut vehicle production in 2008. The cut could result in 200,000 fewer fleet sales for Chrysler. "We're looking for a very small increase in retail but we're going to be reducing our dependency on fleet substantially," Chrysler President Jim Press told the Detroit Free Press. "That's part of a plan that we have to become a more of a retail-oriented company, improve our residual values and improve our focus in terms of production, to meet retail demand versus fleet demands." Spain adding flex-fuel capability to official fleet
2007-12-30 20:45:00 The Parque Móvil del Estado is Spain's official fleet of cars. The fleet has a distinctive license plate (PME) and includes all sort of vehicles from all ministries. Their most recent additions, replacing 80 old gasoline vehicles, are flex-fuel units able to run burn E85. The Schwarzenegger-like problem is that Spain hasn't got many E85 fuelling stations (up to date, only three in the Basque Country), so the Ministry of Public Administrations has installed an E85 pump in Madrid in the gas station which serves these vehicles. The PME already has 272 diesel vehicles running on B10 blends, and these are expected to run on B30 in a few weeks time.The biofuel plan falls under PME's plans to obtain a few ISO standards certifications: ISO 9001:2000, OSHAS 18001:1999 and the environmental ISO 14001:2004 which falls under Spain's Plans on "Urgent Measures towards Climate Change and Clean Energy" (EECCEL). The plan aims to balance green and "real driving" for its 8,000 customer companies and 97,000 drivers.The aim of the program is to reduce CO2 by reducing fuel consumption, which is claimed to be 20 percent of the costs of fleet maintenance. The company currently uses two hybrids in the Bronx, NY fleet and plans to add another three to the Bronx fleet in December. 2007-11-29 05:33:00 We all have revenge fantasies and we all dwell on the subject a little too long from time to time, but can you imagine - seriously imagine - plotting and planning your revenge for years, then carrying it out fully? That's basically the plot of Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street - a musical about a barber who kills his customers in revenge.
