Johns has failed to convince me that he understands the Legion given his work with them over on Action Comics. And up to this point, Johns still has not convinced me that he is the man who should be entrusted with the job of ?fixing? the Legion. I fully understand that my love for the Legion and years of bitterness over how DC has continually screwed the Legion ever which possible way has left me a very jaded Legion fan. It is great to see this title shaping back into form after being such a lackluster read for so many years. I haven?t been this excited about reading the Legion of Super Heroes since DC wised up and wiped out the DnA Legion and allowed Waid and Kitson to start fresh and try and establish a Legion more loyal to the true essence and roots of what makes the Legion of Super Heroes so unique. Unfortunately, Waid?s threeboot, though solid, simply lacked that something special that Shooter has managed to bring to this title. Shooter knows the Legion like so very few writers and he is putting on a clinic on how to handle these characters. There is no doubt that Legion of Super Heroes #39 is going to be another strong read. This old school/new school combination definitely pumped new life into this half-dead franchise. The Legion has been struggling ever since Crisis on Infinite Earths wreaked havoc on their continuity and history. Writers have come and gone and DC has been forced to perform complete and total re-boots on this title several times.
