Pay Illinois legislators in downgraded state bonds
2009-08-01 16:58:00
Now here's a great idea from Republican gubernatorial candidate Dan Proft. Noting that Illinois bonds have been downgraded thanks to irresponsible and incompetent state legislators, he suggests that instead of getting paid in dollars, they should be forced to take their salary in state bonds. As good as the idea is, however, I don't think it goes far enough. They should be paid in worthless confederate dollars. Like that currency, Illinois legislators, who are leading the state into bankruptcy, are totally worthless....
Gays For Tax Hikes:California Gay Legislators Support Bigger State Governme
2009-05-17 00:00:00
A friend forwarded an e-mail he received from Equality California (EQCA), the Golden State advocacy group which “works to achieve equality and secure legal protections for LGBT people.”  In that missive, the supposed gay rights’ group aligns itself with those who would increase the power of the state government in Sacramento, making it easier for ...
Urge Your Legislators to Vote NO on Crazy Ass Laws like SB956 and PCB-EDCA
2009-04-20 22:44:00
So, Sansom was indicted. Finally. Good news, to be sure, but what are his colleagues up to? How ’bout this… These bills (SB 956 and EDCA8) would strip voting rights away from thousands of otherwise eligible Floridians and forbid anyone from helping voters who are being denied their right to vote. We are already the laughing stock of the nation, so let’s send an URGENT message to Gov. Crist and House Speaker Cretul & Senate President Atwater. The three stooges. Or not. Let them decide. Tell them to stand up to this political power grab that will only make it more difficult to vote in Florida. When thinking about recent voting scandals, do we really need to make the whole thing more difficult? No, of course we don’t. Email the Speaker of the House, the one who hasn’t been indicted yet, the Senate President and the Governor and tell them to get off their ass and protect the right to vote. A *please* and *thank you* might help. Ya never know.
Irresponsible State Legislators & California?s Fiscal Hole
2009-01-15 13:00:00
On Sunday, while participating in a rally in support of Israel outside the federal building in Westwood, my former State Assemblyman Paul Koretz approached me, asking for my support in his current bid for LA City Council.  While I wondered at the appropriateness of his campaigning at the event, I took advantage of his approach ...
Ohio Legislators Will Pay for Payday Loan Ban
2008-06-04 03:51:00
By completely ignoring the pleas of thousands of payday loan borrowers, putting 6000 Ohioans out of a job during a recession, and costing the Ohio economy millions of dollars, I hereby sentence the Gov. Strickland and the Ohio Legislature to Civil Disobedience Torture. That?s right, since Ohio?s politicians decided to act in their own best interest ...
Obama Clinches the Nomination; Clinton Open to Being His Running Mate
2008-06-04 02:54:00
This broke earlier today while I was at work, so my apologies for having it up late. Although Obama has not formally come out with the ”magic number,” my tallies, as well as CNN’s and the Associated Press’s do confirm that he should go over that mark tonight, if what Obama is reporting in terms of Superdelegate pledges is ...
Legislators Will Pay for Banning Payday Loans
2008-05-21 20:58:00
By Matthew Mayer   As payday loans vanish from Ohio storefronts in the next few months because of HB 545, I thought I would provide some perspective on the issue.    The great irony here is that prostitution is illegal, yet Ohio?s legislators have lawfully rented themselves out in exchange for votes.   Darn.  I promised myself I wouldn?t get puerile.  ...

Sandy Cole of Grayslake for voting against legislation that ...

Illinois: Anti-Gun Legislators Continue to Fight Against Your Second Amendm
2008-04-12 01:44:00
The Illinois General Assembly is still hard at work trying to take away your Second Amendment rights. Thanks to the pressure put on the state legislators by the pro-gun community, two anti-gun bills failed to meet the necessary 60 votes in order to pass. But our work isn?t done yet.

Legislators REALLY aren?t helping themselves
2008-03-26 23:04:00
DO THEY EVEN READ THIS STUFF BEFORE THEY PASS IT? The Real ID dilemma is a real problem. With only five days left to either comply with a federally-mandated program that requires states to impose new, tougher standards for getting identification or ask for an extension, Gov. Mark Sanford must make a very difficult decision. If Sanford does nothing, South Carolinians would no longer use their driver?s license to board an airplane. And we have already passed the point of being able to comply. So the only option left is to ask the Department of Homeland Security for more time. But if Sanford were to do that, he would be breaking the law. That’s because the wonderful South Carolina General Assembly passed a bill last year that said the state would not in any way comply with the Real ID program. Sanford argues that asking for extra time implies that the state plans to comply with the current set of guidelines, and legally, he’s probably right. The only way the governor ca...

Well, the Michigan Legislature met for the last time for 2 weeks on Thursday.  It had been said that if the discussion of a revote were to be proposed, it would be brought up there, but everybody was pretty sure that it wasn’t going to be.  Since they won’t meet for 2 weeks, that was ...
Today Is the Deadline for Legislatures to Pass Re-Vote Bill in Michigan
2008-03-20 16:18:00
Well, today is essentially the deadline for the Michigan Legislature to pass a re-vote bill, since the Legislature is going on a 2 week recess after today, and there wouldn’t be enough time to set it up after that.  The proposed date is June 3rd, and as I said here (http://inkslwc.wordpress.com/2-008/03/18/no-re-vote-in-michiga-n/), it appears that the ...

Michigan Should Not Re-do Its Primary; Democrats Agree
2008-03-17 21:20:00
Alright, so lately we’ve been hearing a lot of rumors about a do-over primary here in Michigan, and possibly in Florida.  For now, we’re going to leave out Florida, because it seems like actual progress for a plan is moving quicker in Michigan. Personally, I think it’s a terrible idea for the Democratic Party - but ...

The 0.1 percent stadium sales tax is assessed in five counties in southeast Wisconsin. When it began, lawmakers expected the tax to end in 2014.

Bahamians encouraged to join fight to keep Fla. tax exemption: By INDERIA SAUNDERS,Guardian Staff Reporter - Nassau, Bahamas: A hike in prices on goods imported from the Sunshine State may be looming as Florida legislators debate repealing an exemption on the six-percent sales tax directed at foreign importers — a concession that has made Florida the top supplier to Bahamian businesses. The legislative move may come as early as this year and in the midst of an economic downturn in the state's economy, said Adam Hasner, the Majority Leader in the Florida House of Representatives He was in Nassau yesterday trying to enlist the help of local businesses in the fight against the Democrat-led initiative. He fears that if the concession is removed and enough regional importers decide to take their business elsewhere, his state's economy will fall further into what increasingly appears to be recession. At a Bahamas Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Hasner argued that possible de...

9-digit ZIP Code (ZIP+4) for Finding Representatives & Legislators
2007-10-01 18:43:00
If you have a website that lets people lookup U.S. Government legislative districts or find representatives, you've probably been frustrated with finding a good way to get people to get their ZIP+4 Code. Since the +4 Code is pretty much required to find the correct congressional and legislative districts, it's a problem that a lot of webmasters face.A lot of people end up directing their visitors to find the ZIP+4 Code on the USPS Lookup. This is an OK solution, but it isn't the best solution. It takes the visitor away from your site and is inconvenient.By using the Qualified Address API, you can implement a better solution. Our Address Verification API can be integrated into any website form in as little as 15 minutes and would allow the visitor to enter their address and get their ZIP+4 right on your website. It's convenient for both you and your user. Please visit the Address Verification API product page at QualifiedAddress.com for more information on how you can use this on ...
