With only five days left to either comply with a federally-mandated program that requires states to impose new, tougher standards for getting identification or ask for an extension, Gov. Mark Sanford must make a very difficult decision. If Sanford does nothing, South Carolinians would no longer use their driver?s license to board an airplane. And we have already passed the point of being able to comply. So the only option left is to ask the Department of Homeland Security for more time. But if Sanford were to do that, he would be breaking the law.
