2009-06-10 22:57:00
Huliq.com, an international online citizen journalism outlet has published a letter co-written by the President of the Greater O’Hare Association (GOA), Shirlanne Lemm, and I in opposition to the Employee Free Choice Act (AKA “card check bill”). Also, I’m on the Board of Directors for the GOA, and Shirlanne and I are on the ...

Letter to the Editor
2008-02-07 03:30:00
The other day I came across a news article that ruffled my feathers enough to send a letter to the editor, something I have never done before. Here’s a copy of my correspondence (I have received nothing in return from them yet): Regarding “Death photo of war reporter“. While I believe Ernie Pyle was a hero in his ...

Maricopa County Arizona Median Home Price (Zillow.com)What this writer didn't disclose in the letter is that she's not just a desperate homedebtor, but also a realtor. But hey, we should have guessed it. Like coke dealers doing coke. Bad idea. What's sad is that these "blame the media" realtors and homedebtors will continue to blame the media during and after the crash. They won't blame the lying realtors, or the corrupt mortgage brokers, or the greedy builders, or the mortgage fraudsters, or the failed flippers, or the illegals, or the Fed, or anyone really responsible for this mess. No, they'll just blame the media for exposing the truth. That's easier.Well, I think HP'ers are happy to have played a part in exposing the big scam. No matter what realtors on commission and housing gamblers wanted.Letter to the Editor - Arizona RepublicNo housing 'bubble' bursting in the ValleyMay. 27, 2006 12:00 AMI see an awful lot written about the real estate "bubble" bursting, but I've ...
Join Ron Paul revolution (Letter to the editor)
2007-12-22 20:38:00
The writer has a good point. Ron Paul is getting an incredible amount of support yet the media is still casting him as a 27th tier candidate. He is generating more grass roots excitement and a surprising amount of donations compared to the other candidates on the ticket. It is time for the media to take him seriously. If they do not then they will be the ones left in the lurch, not Ron Paul. ~RJH HJNews article link Join Ron Paul revolution Saturday, December 22, 2007 1:38 AM CSTTo the editor:Ron Paul is not mainstream mediaÂ’s choice for the next president. They want to cast him off as a long shot or wasted vote. But should a long shot really be leading ALL candidates in state straw poll victories? Official polls also show that he has done very well in the primary debates; either winning them or coming in a close second. He had a very impressive one-day funding drive last Sunday that netted over $5 million dollars, which is more than half of what Romney raised ALL last quarter. The...
Letter to the Editor
2007-12-21 16:09:00
A revised version of my last post was printed as letter to the editor in today's Inquirer. You can find it here. Since it was published I've received a lot of supportive emails, and one from a person who disagrees with me. They said, "Training cannot instill work ethic and attitude developed over the short lifetime of today's youth. It is disgraceful commentary on this generation." There are many disgraceful things going on right now. Some happen because of young people, and many others happen because of older generations. But, it bothers me that a few people can have bad experiences in the mall and come to the conclusion that young people are worthless. I can point to countless examples of young people doing amazing things. Let's talk about some of them. And in the meantime, let's make sure younger people are trained right. Customer services is not a skill you're born with.

2007-09-29 23:37:00
Last week, there was a very nice article about Sunny Rest Lodge, a nudist resort located in the Poconos, PA. We know the owner and her daughter. They are very hard working and nice people. Their campground is very nice, but seasonal as it gets cold in PA this time of the year.I didn't realize the article was on the front page of their local newspaper. That is pretty good. We have only made the front page of newspapers three times in our 13 years of being open. Once we had a lead in to a 1 page feature travel article in the Vancouver Sun newspaper in Canada. Then we had a front page lead in to a feature 1 1/4 page Calgary Herald Canada feature travel article. And once we had a front page lead in to a 1 page feature travel article in the Arizona Republic newspaper. I especially liked that article as at that time the Arizona Republic was owned by the Dan Quayle's family trust.Anyway, there is a person who wrote a letter to the Pocono newspaper objecting to the article. The person did...

Are there a lot of vintage shops in Melbourne? I'll be visiting there shortly and I love vintage dresses! I really like your blog, by the way.- KateNyaw, shucks to you, and to Brianna too. It's only worth doing this for comments like those. ♥But on to the question. Short answer: Yes'm! Long answer: Yes'm! There are heaps! Yet - I haven't actually found most of them. I can tell you what I already sort of said in the Prancing Around The City post - that is, there are heaps on Smith St in Collingwood - HEAPS, I tell you - there's about three op shops (opportunity shops, they're probably exactly the same as thrift or charity shops) and a couple of vitage stores, I think. Then there's a couple of vintage stores on Brunswick St, but I find they're a bit more expensive. Or, try Cardigan Place, Albert Park - there's at least one there, but I can't personally recommend anything, as I'm yet to visit. It's on my to-do list. As for other places... Well, there are op shops in...
Alberto F. Montero Valdes letter to the editor of the LA Times
2007-09-01 00:53:00
A blogging buddy sent me this letter he sent to the LA Times. I actually read it in the Times, but didn't make any connections. I'm glad he took the time to send it to me. The original's here. He's right in that if the embargo does only affect Cubans and nothing we do will affect change, then why should Americans worry about it either way? I'm kind of ambivilent on this issue. As much as I hate what Castro's done to his country, the embargo is hurting Cubans in some way. Is the embargo the cause of Castro's ills? Not really; he squandered Cuba's potential on conflict and rabbit-brained ideas from the start. Whatever he lost in American patronage is not only his own fault, but offset by our past mortal enemy, the Soviet Union's, patronage. => Read more!
A Letter to the Editor About Job Stress and Suicide
2007-08-25 14:55:00
Workplace Stress And Suicide Thank you for “Dispatches from the war on stress” (Workplace, Aug. 6). In many states, suicide is the second leading cause of death among young adults. In 1998, our son, Keith Loehr, started a job in new-product development after receiving his MBA. The stress from this job, along with the lack of ...

The Aug. 15 Star Tribune reported that this year's Minnesota ACT tests scores led the nation. State Commissioner of Education Alice Seagren expressed delight at this supposed measure of her performance. What the writer and the education commissioner fail to mention is that the ACT tests reported are the combined scores of public and private school students who are interested in going to college. The tests do not measure how the majority of Minnesota students are doing, especially those not going to college. Seagren and Pawlenty certainly don't deserve credit for how well private schools students are doing. Nor do they deserve praise for student achievement that is not measured by the ACTs, considering that thanks in part to the governor's cuts, college is so expensive now it is out of reach for even many middle-class families. PAUL ROZYCKI, MINNEAPOLIS Actually it is the third year in a row that Minnesota has led the nation in ACT scores. But let's not let a little good news ...

Dear (Napa Valley Register ) editor, This is a belated thanks to Dr. Dizman, Napa cardiologist, and nurse Susan Hart for giving me medical service that changed my life and avoided the problems that come with bypass surgery. For some time before October 2001, I was suffering periodic chest pains. I finally went to a cardiologist (not Dr. Dizman) who after an examination scheduled me for a bypass

Idaho Letter to the Editor Regarding Sen. Barack Obama
2007-06-11 23:09:00
Quite an interesting and ignorant letter to the editor.  I'm surprised the editor allowed it to be published considering several inconsistencies.Obama's pastBarack Hussein Obama takes great pains to conceal the fact he is still a Muslim, and that his stepfather educated him as a good Muslim by enrolling him in one of Jakarta's Wahabbi schools. Wahabbism is the radical teaching that created Muslim terrorists who are now waging Jihad on the industrialized world. Obama joined the United Church of Christ because he knows it is politically expedient to do all he can to purge any notion that he is still a Muslim. Barack Hussein Obama was just one of the 34 U.S. senators who voted against making English the official language of America. It is also public record that Sens. Obama and John McCain, R-Ariz., were two of the 33 senators who voted to give illegal aliens Social Security benefits. The entire population of the United States needs to know this information. Do you want someone...

We don’t need no stinkin’ democracy. UPDATE: the author of the letter in question has written before (10/14/06): We hear about the wonders of living in a country that has freedom of speech almost every day. Yes, freedom of speech is one of our rights, but with every right, there is a responsibility. I ...
Letter to the Editor in The Observer-Dispatch
2007-04-06 07:57:00
I ran across this letter to the editor yesterday:Hold senators to fire regarding Iraq voteOn March 27, the U.S. Senate voted 50 to 48 for a nonbinding resolution supporting a pullout of U.S. troops from Iraq by this time next year.Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska, a Vietnam veteran and staunch conservative, was the only Republican to support the measure. In explaining his vote, he argued "Iraq belongs to the 25 million Iraqis who live there. It doesn't belong to the United States. Iraq is not a prize to be won or lost." Wise words. If George Bush's disastrous misadventure in Iraq continues through the November 2008 elections, the Republican senators who failed to follow Hagel's lead should be held accountable. Iraq doesn't belong to the U.S. It's time to bring our troops home.Maurice IssermanClintonFrom The Observer-DispatchIf you have written or seen a letter to the editor about Chuck Hagel I'd love to hear about it.
Letter to the Editor
2007-03-30 20:50:00
Received this letter to the editor that a Hagel supporter from Martin County, FL recently submitted to his local paper, and just wanted to share it"In the not so distant past, Republicans produced a conservative majority and were remaking America in ways profound. Yet, since absolute power corrupts (even Republicans) absolutely; we lost Congress. Now we are set on losing the White House.Republicans today march like mindless drones behind GWB off the cliff. The GOP front runner is hardly pro-family and believes in publicly funded abortions. Once a Democrat, I fled to the GOP for those very reasons. Now, I'm supposed to support Giuliani? Never.Bush abandoned the Powell doctrine and let Rumsfeld conduct the war like Jack Rogers cutting employees at GE. Result? We sent in just enough troops to create an insurgency and waited 4 long years to try and fix it. If that weren't bad enough, Bush $pent us into debt like Democrats of old. When the attorney general does something aska...

Letter To "Singing News" Nov. 2006I am writing in response to the article in the October 2006 issue of Singing News by Roy Pauley “Are Pastors and Churches Too Critical of Song Lyrics”. In this article Roy seems to feel that Pastors are at times having trouble with some songs sung by the Southern Gospel Groups and making comments about or explaining why they have trouble with particular songs. Roy seems to feel that Pastors and Churches should back down and not voice their concerns. He states, “generally speaking, song writers should be given the freedom to write about their personal feelings and experiences concerning forgiveness, salvation and God’s great love and care for mankind.”I am a Pastor, a composer and a musician and I understand that as a musician and writer I need the freedom to express my feelings and experiences through the music that God has given to me. Each one of us has been given a different personality, a unique way at looking at life and the worl...
