2008-05-14 13:07:00
Bob: I?m in it to win it And maybe Barr?s candidacy isn?t a total waste, after all: After the conference, Barr was informed that he had just won one of those very precious political commodities: a delegate. 2008-05-13 21:31:00
[From Truthdig: Drilling Beneath the Headlines] This isn’t the first time someone has accused Sen. John McCain of not being conservative enough, but now former Republican congressman-turned-Libertarian- Bob Barr is upping the ante on his critique of McCain’s conservatism by running against him in this year’s presidential election. The Los Angeles Times: “The government has run amok fiscally,” ...
Bob Barr to be the Libertarian Candidate for President
2008-05-13 02:55:00
Bob Barr, the congressman and House Manger who led the impeachment of Bill Clinton 10 years ago, has decided he will run for President as the Libertarian candidate, their convention is in two weeks. Barr is so far out on the lunatic fringe he lost his congressional seat not in the 2006 Democratic upset, but back in 2002, in a lunatic fringe district in the lunatic fringe state of Georgia no less!Barr is best remembered as the strongest congressional voice for everything NRA. He is one of those lunatic fringe Republicans who are so intrinsically repulsive they can't get lobbying jobs (Bob Dornan is another) so they become radio talk show hosts whipping up the masses to evermore bigotry, intolerance, and gun fun. This week George Wlll and Sean Hannity had a fit with their one time friend who they now call "spolier" saying he will help John McCain lose the election in the same way Ralph Nader helped lose it for Al Gore in 2000. Which they say could be even worse than what Nad...

As a former statewide and city council candidate (from Indiana) I can tell you I've never seen anyone as effective at getting our Libertarian message out as Wayne Allyn Root. Wayne is truly amazing.  I hope you will choose to support Wayne as our LP Presidential candidate. &nb...

Great article from NJ Libertarian News
2008-04-15 18:27:00
In NJ U.S. Citizens Are Twice As Likely To Land In Prison As Legal And Illegal Immigrants Here is the link  http://www.njlibertariannews.co-m/ if you have a blog please add them to your blog rollA study has come out showing that in NJ U.S. citizens are twice as likely to land in prison as legal and illegal immigrants. The liberals have been using this as a counter to the conservative argument that illegal immigration increases crime. In this case both sides are wrong. First of all if you are an illegal immigrant then you have already broken the law and are a criminal which cancels out the liberal argument. Secondly the conservatives have been focusing on a faulty argument when the real issue is that illegal immigrants are draining services that are paid with taxes collected from legal immigrants and US citizens.BlueJersey, a liberal blog, stated this on their site: "Contrary to what the Donald Cresitellos of the state would have you believe, citizens are twice as likely ...

George Phillies for President 2008FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*Phillies Defends 2nd Amendment as Protecting Liberty*Worcester, Mass., April 14: Libertarian Presidential hopeful GeorgePhillies today defended the reasoning behind the second amendment to theConstitution, which guarantees the people's right to keep and bear arms, against those who believe it is no longer necessary.Citing the historic battles of Lexington and Concord, which wereprecipitated by the British seizure of guns and ammunition, Dr. Phillieswent on to say that "The American Revolution established a fundamentalprecedent for all future Americans. In defense of our liberties, theultimate recourse is not petitions for redress of grievance, nor is itlegislation nor litigation. In the end, our ultimate defense proves to bearmed patriots ready and able to offer their lives in defense of freedom."Critics of the second amendment often argue that the government can andshould be changed through petitions and legal channels ideally...
Libertarian Defense Caucus
2008-04-14 23:02:00
The LDC is expanding, getting a new site which is still under construction (after which I will link to it) and reorganizing itself--we are planning on more closely aligning with the Neolibertarians who share many, if not all, of the same core principles with the LDC. I've accepted a vice-chairmanship in the Caucus, so that's exciting.  My first move? I'm thinking about starting a petition here in Arizona to re-instate smoking bars. And no, I don't smoke.  I just find the ban on smoking in bars to be totally insane, a major infringement on our rights as Americans (after all cigarettes aren't illegal, are they?) and a horrible use of legislation that cannot possibly withstand constitutional scrutiny. That's libertarian without the "defense" part.  I'm just going to keep writing and reading and try to keep warning the world about the very real danger of militant Islam.  That's the best I feel I can do for the cause right now. Keep your voice h...

Former Democratic presidential hopeful bolts for Libertarian Party
2008-03-26 23:51:00
One-time Democratic presidential hopeful Mike Gravel announced Wednesday Libertarian" href="http://politicalticker.bl-ogs.cnn.com/2008/03/26/former-d-emocratic-presidential-hopeful--bolts-for-libertarian-party/">h-e is abandoning his political party and will run for the White House as a Libertarian. Gravel, a former senator whose presidential campaign was never taken seriously by most political observers, made the proclamation in a message posted on his Web site. ?The fact is, the Democratic Party today is no longer the party of FDR,? Gravel said. ?It is a party that continues to sustain war, the military-industrial complex and imperialism ? all of which I find anathema to my views.? Well he's from the Democratic party, so he should be used to surrendering by now. :) But is he really "Libertarian" material?  Here's a list of his accomplishments from ontheissues.org and frankly, I don't see it. But it's a very damning thing to see one of your own defect to another party.  E...

Presidential Candidate Switches to Libertarian Party
2008-03-26 15:59:00
Surprisingly, it's not Ron Paul who's switched parties. Firstread is reporting that Mike Gravel has changed his party registration from Democratic to Libertarian and plans to continue his longshot campaign by pursuing the Libertarian Party's nomination. I admit I wasn't paying a lot of attention to Gravel during his early appearances at debates (he was dropped from most invite lists well before the Iowa caucuses) but he never struck me as being a candidate for joining the Libertarian Party.Original post blogged on b2evolution.
Mike gravel is running for President as a Libertarian
2008-03-26 13:28:00
Mike gravel has joined the Libertarian Presidential Race. This came from www.thirdpartywatch.com Gravel For President 2008A Personal Message from Mike Gravel Dear friend, I wanted to update you on my latest plans before news gets out. Today, I am announcing my plan to join the Libertarian Party, because the Democratic Party no longer represents my vision for our great country. I wanted my supporters to get this news first, because you have been the ones who have kept my campaign alive since I first declared my candidacy on April 17, 2006. The fact is, the Democratic Party today is no longer the party of FDR. It is a party that continues to sustain war, the military-industrial complex and imperialism—all of which I find anathema to my views. By and large, I have been repeatedly marginalized in both national debates and in media exposure by the Democratic leadership, which works in tandem with the corporate interests that control what we read and hear in the media. I look forwa...

Between now and then, I intend to campaign at several stateconventions, reach out to prospective delegates with mailings andphone calls, and produce quality literature to promote my candidacy. The problem is simple: I'm not an independently wealthy individual.I'm a family guy who's been working my way through college (I expectto graduate in May with a BA in Political Science and minor inEconomics) while working a blue collar job to support my household. Libertarian visits a Republican Convention
2008-03-15 23:26:00
Georgia had it's county GOP meetings this weekend.   As some people involved in the Ron Paul campaigns across America know there is an attempt to get those people involved with the political process.I have been active in the Ron Paul campaign in Georgia.Today I went to the Spalding County GOP with the other members that worked on the Ron Paul campaign. The goal is to pull the GOP back to it's roots of smaller government. The Spalding county GOP had slots for 14 delegates to go to the state convention. The Ron Paul people filled 5 of those. We did not hide or try anything underhanded. In fact I made a decision we would do the opposite. We told them who we were and that we had worked hard on the Ron Paul campaign. Our county had the forth best % of 159 counties. If the counties had voted for Paul like they vote Libertarian we should have come in 39 th.Before they voted on sending to the state convention we all had to speak. I told them I had ran as a Libertarian and ha...

Who Is A Libertarian?
2008-02-17 14:17:00
A libertarian is one who rejects the idea of using violence or the threat of violence - legal or illegal - to impose his will or viewpoint upon any peaceful person.Generally speaking, a libertarian is one who wants to be governed far less than he is today.A libertarian believes that the government should protect all persons equally against external and internal aggression, but should otherwise generally leave people alone to work out their own problems and aspirations. While a libertarian expects the government to render equal protection to all persons against outright fraud and misrepresentation, he doesn't expect the government to protect anyone from the consequences of his own free choices.A libertarian holds that persons who make wise choices are entitled to enjoy the fruits of their wisdom, and that persons who make unwise choices have no right to demand that the government reimburse them for their folly.A libertarian expects his government to establish, support, and enforce th...
Barack Obama?s Libertarian Support
2008-02-16 09:22:00
Barack Obama is a strong civil libertarian, a strong supporter of separation of church and state, and has economic views which are influenced by the University of Chicago. As I discussed last month, Daniel Koffler has even labeled Obama a left-libertarian. I believe that Obama’s beliefs don’t fully fit this label, but there are many ...
Libertarian Leadership Conference in Nevada
2008-02-14 22:59:00
Since so many Libertarians are asking me if I'm attending the Libertarian leadership conference in Las Vegas this weekend (Feb. 15-17, 2008), the answer is absolutely not...this is because of their requirement that I, as a LP presidential candidate, must pay $500 to participate in the presidential candidate debate. I was disgusted when I was informed of this exploitation of LP presidential candidates and I am not attending because of it.I regret not being there because I was so looking forward to meeting many Libertarian activists, state chairs, and other Libertarian officers and candidates. It is a wonderful idea to bring so many Libertarians together for the purpose of building our party, and I find it deplorable such an important event would be used to make money off of the LP presidential candidates.$500 to be in the presidential debate...and apparently they didn't notify Libertarians attending that's what they required of us, since everyone who has asked me and I've shared i...
Libertarian Party Sends Its Condolences to the Republican Party
2008-02-11 21:48:00
With the rise of John McCain as the front runner, and the only other candidate in the race being Mike Huckabee, the Libertarian Party felt condolences were in order. So they sent a wreath of flowers to the RNC, expressing their sympathy on the apparent “death of small-government principles within” the party: The wreath was hand-delivered to the D.C. offices of the Republican National Committee. “We simply felt the need to express our heartfelt sympathy for the Republican Party as they undergo this tough time within their party,” says Libertarian Party National Media Coordinator Andrew Davis, who delivered the wreath. “Given that it has become readily apparent that Senator McCain will soon be the presidential nominee for the Republican Party,” reads a card that accompanied the wreath addressed to RNC Chairman Mike Duncan, “we, the staff of the Libertarian National Committee, send our condolences to you upon the death of small-government p...

Stronger, and more knowledgeable than ever before in a number of areas, I am happy to share with all of you that I feel wonderful - for I see the ideas and solutions of libertarianism gaining ground in this nation as never before.OPPOSITION TO LIBERTARIANISMOf course, I'm constantly reminded of the corruption prevalent in this society, especially how the establishment/powers that be oppose libertarianism. The continued media bias/discrimination against Ron Paul is continual evidence of that.I know for myself, I've spent time expressing my opposition and taking the actions any citizen can (and sharing with others how they can) in opposition to the recent FOX GOP NH forum because of its exclusion of Ron Paul. (On that note, was able to speak briefly on a 50,000-watt radio talk show yesterday (heard in 38 states) and as soon as they host learned I (a caller to the show) was a registered ...
Paul's bent: Libertarian or Literally terrible?
2008-01-09 00:00:00
You know, while we were a little skeptical at first, maybe far-right anti-gay extremist Randy Thomasson was right to rank Ron Paul right up with Mike Huckabee in terms of anti-gay sentiment. Why do we now say that? Well, The...

2008 Election: Presidential General Election
2007-12-31 23:43:00
PART III: My 2008 Presidential General Election Prediction (from this site: http://uselectionatlas.org/PRED-/PRESIDENT/2008/pred.php?action-=indpred&id=1919) (note that the colors are opposite of what the media uses): Edwards/??? (252), Romney/Huckabee (286). At this point, I have a VERY close race in mind.  In fact, it’s the exact same amount of EVs as 2004.  If Edwards can win North Carolina, it’s by a ...
Open Letter to all Libertarian Presidential Candidates
2007-12-17 17:24:00
I'm unabashedly for Ron Paul, but I'm also more unabashedly for libertarianism and achieving a system of government that not only holds dear, but honors and implements, the concepts of individual rights and equality. Kubby already has an account with us to use to spread his campaign materials, speeches, and press releases. All others Presidential Candidates registered libertarian are welcome to the same. read more
The Real Libertarian Running for President?

I have not heard of Wayne Allyn Root before but he says he is a Libertarian and that gets my attention. I will be checking back now and then tos ee how thinsg are going for him. ~RJHRoot For President article link Move over Ron Paul, meet the REAL Libertarian front runner Wayne Allyn Root!Wayne Allyn RootSo, you've been hearing the recent buzz about Ron Paul and his libertarian ideals, you like most of what he says, and now you're thinking about supporting him. You're probably thinking that it would be such a refreshing change to have a libertarian in the white house. There's just one problem, Ron Paul is a republican running on the republican ticket.    It's high time that Ron Paul supporters learn about the real Libertarian party front runner Wayne Allyn Root and his campaign to "Root...

Paul Declines Invitation To Run as Libertarian
2007-12-10 15:30:00
A report this morning makes it looks less likely that Ron Paul intends to run as a third party candidate as it might have sounded in the interview I quoted from earlier. The Austin American-Statesman reports that Paul has turned down an invitation to seek the Libertarian Party nomination: U.S. Rep. Ron Paul turned down a ...

George Phillies for President 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE   November 27, 2007 National Poll Proves: Phillies Education Plan Will Revolutionize American Education  Libertarian Presidential candidate George Phillies has a Christmas present for every child in America.  It's a tax credit of $5000 a year for each school-age child to pay for better education.  A core issue for the Phillies campaign since 2006, the idea is starting to gain acceptance in Congress with the introduction of H.R. 1056. The Phillies 2008 Presidential campaign polled Americans on the Phillies Education Plan, and the results were amazing.  76% of Americans say their children did or will go to public school, while 13% went to private schooling and 5% are homeschooled.  With the $5000 a year offer, private schooling soared from 13 to 41% of American children, while 7% would be homeschooled.  "The plan is especially appealing to young people and minorities, according to the...
