In the past month or so, as polls have shown increased public dissatisfaction with President Obama’s policies, revealing that the American people have a predilection for the small government ideas the Republican Party ostensibly champions.  I say “ostensibly” because in the past few years (as many have noted), the GOP has lost sight of its ...

Here's a comment I posted in Ostrowski's thread, and I'm reprinting here. The United States has evolved over its 200+ year history, and with each election, the social contract changes. Sometimes rightward, sometimes leftward. Never has it gone to either extreme, however. We have never had ...

John Monds Libertarian for Governor
2009-03-25 13:56:00
March 24th, 2009 ATLANTA – John Monds will be announcing his intention to seek the Libertarian Party of Georgia’s nomination for Governor with a press conference at the Capitol in Atlanta with family, close friends and supporters by his side Wednesday, March 25th at 4:00pm.   During his campaign for Public Service Commission (District 1) in 2008, Monds became the first Libertarian to break one million votes in the United States.   Monds and the Libertarian Party believe Georgians are ready for something new and different. “It’s difficult to tell the difference between Republicans and Democrats; both want to raise your taxes, waste your money and increase the size and scope of state government,” said Monds.   “We must be competitive in the 21st Century. We must have meaningful tax reforms that allow businesses and individuals to thrive, a transportation system that eases congestion without raising taxes, an education system that gives more choices and re...

Constituent Rebellion Now!Millions wrote and called to say No! and still the Senate said Yes? It is time for a housecleaning! Time to show them that they work for Main Street, not Wall Street.Based on quick analysis, it looks like there are 2-4 Senators who voted Yes who are in tight races, and 3 or 4 more who are vulnerable. In the House, the analysis is similar, 7 or 8 vulnerable races where a little bit of influence might make all the difference. Targeting these so-called representatives of the people, with print and radio ads highlighting their betrayal, could really make an impact on their chances for re-election -- and put the fear of constituency back into the Washington elite. Are you interested in making it happen? There isn't much time before the election, so it will take funds and effort. Can you participate by offering time, skills or funds? Let us know. Texas GOP Pressing Libertarian Candidates to Bow Out
2008-08-05 21:55:00
Looks like a former GOP State Rep called a few Libertarian candidates running in close races and asked them to drop out. From the Austin American Statesman:A former Republican state representative called three Libertarian Party candidates for the state House on Friday to request that they drop out of their races rather than take votes from their Republican opponents.Suzanna Hupp, who represented District 54 in Central Texas for 10 years, said she made the calls Friday because of concerns that the Libertarian candidates would take Republican votes and ultimately give Democrats control over state and national seats. "The fact is, we've got redistricting coming up in a few years," said Hupp, from Lampasas, who served in the House from 1997 to 2007, "and if the Republicans lose the (Texas) House of Representatives because there are a handful of people mad at them and vote for the Libertarians instead, then we could be in big trouble at the federal level."...Hupp said she called thr...

Where to send donations for the possible Dick Heller Run as a Libertarian in D.C.While Heller has not formally, publicly announced he's running, he has been asked and has consented to our circulating petitions to put him on the ballot.  Obviously, help generating donations would be a huge and necessary step!   We hope to have the website go from a petition to more information and taking donations within a week.  For right now, checks can be made to "DC for Heller" and sent to DC for Heller at PO Box 77159, Washington, DC 20013.

Libertarian party impact on 2008 elections Here is a link www.enctoday.comJuly 17, 2008 - 10:34PM Barry Smith Staff Writer  RALEIGH - Libertarian Party candidates likely won't win the presidency or the governor's race this year. But they could be a player in helping determine who will reside in the White House and the Executive Mansion. The State Board of Elections Web page shows that out of the 5.8 million registered voters in the state, only 293 are affiliated with the Libertarian Party. The number will likely grow since the Libertarians have only been a recognized party for a few weeks. They'd been recognized in the past but recently had to go through the cumbersome petition process to regain ballot access. Now that they're on the ballot, there's some sense that their presence could have an effect on a couple of races. In recent decades, the numbers of independent voters have increased. In North Carolina, independents are registered as "unaffiliated." Nearly 1.3 mill...
Libertarian Presidential Bob Barr Candidate Will File Lawsuit Against Oklah

Libertarian Presidential Candidate Bob Barr Will File Lawsuit Against Oklahomahttp://www.ksbitv.com/h-ome/25481589.html A 2008 presidential hopeful speaks out against Oklahoma's election policies.  The Libertarian Party's Presidential nominee, Bob Barr, will file a lawsuit to overturn the state's ballot access requirement that would put his name on the November ballot.  Oklahoma requires a candidate to get about 40,000 signatures to be added to the ballot.  Barr's campaign says they are on track in every other state because they require less than 10,000 names.  Barr says it's unconstitutional. "We believe that is unfair, we believe that the citizens of Oklahoma ought to have the same rights in terms of access to voting for the office of President and Vice President as the other states and the District of Columbia," Libertarian Candidate for President, Bob Barr explained. Barr turned in close to 10,000 petition signatures, and will be running for the libe...
Steve Kubby: “States’ Rights” is an Anti-Libertarian Concept
2008-06-30 17:01:00
This was posted on the Last free voice today. I like steve kubby I voted for him at the Denver Convention for VP. Steve Kubby: “States’ Rights” is an Anti-Libertarian Concept The following is published with the permission of the author, Steve Kubby. Steve Kubby is, of course, a highly respected longtime Libertarian activist, a former candidate for Governor of California, and a popular 2008 Libertarian presidential candidate. “States Rights” is an Anti-Libertarian Concept By Steve Kubby The concept of “FEDERALISM” is properly used to describe a system of government in which sovereignty is constitutionally divided between the federal government and the states. In contrast, the term “STATES’ RIGHTS” is a fraudulent and profoundly ANTI-Libertarian concept that has no other purpose but to deceive and rob us of our natural, inalienable, inseparable, non-transferable rights as human beings. The Ninth Amendment says: “The numeration in the Constitution, of certa...

So, the Duke political science professor reasons he should be alongside them at upcoming debates. But at least one upcoming debate will exclude him while other hosts are having to be reminded that North Carolina officially has three parties. "If I'm invited to the debate, and I do a bad job, voters are going to say 'I'm not interested,'" Munger said. Libertarian VP Candidate on small business

Although I will be supporting John McCain in the election, I was happy to see the following quote from VP candidate Root at the convention:Root, a colorful media personality with a dynamic and enthusiastic speakingstyle, brings several large voting blocs to the Barr/Root Libertarian ticket. Asa small businessman, I will aim my campaign at 27 million American smallbusiness owners and millions of independent contractors such as real estatebrokers, stockbrokers, insurance brokers and mortgage brokers. Libertarian Party convention
2008-05-25 22:41:00
I hesitate to write about this here because, in truth, I don't do other parties very often. There are few enough places to find news about the Green Party as it is without having to share that space with other parties.Even so, the Libertarians have much in common in terms of policy with the Greens. Often I think we come at things from different directions to reach similar goals, but one cannot deny that the differences between Greens and Libertarians are substantial. If the Green Party had rules as loose as the Libertarians apparently are, who knows who may have popped up at the last moment to ask for our nomination. I can imagine that Senator Gravel might have come to us if he had thought he had any chance at all. Similarly, at some point in the future, there may be a Democrat or Republican doing well enough to jump ship early on and make better than 5% on election day. For example, if Edwards had left the Democratic Party just after Super Tuesday and brought his campaign staf...
