Russia: Fresh Protests Challenge Putin and His Loyalists ? TIME
2011-12-27 17:07:00 The answers to be heard at Saturday’s rally were as diverse as the crowd itself, but they could be distilled to one potent Russian word: dostala, which means, “I’m sick of it.” They were sick of not being given a choice of their country’s leaders. They were sick of corruption and political paternalism. Unlike many ...

What Next for Libya?
2011-10-24 19:01:00 Libyan Colonel Gaddafi’s 42 year brutal reign is over, but the future looks murky ahead for a country primarily known for exporting oil and terrorism. One thing is for certain – international oil companies will be packing out flights to Tripoli to cut deals for a piece of the action. Libya remains the wild card, with only 25 percent of the country’s oil potential territory explored. Whatever the demerits of the Gaddafi regime, it kept tight rein over its oil industry, and that, combined with international sanctions for its terrorist proclivities, largely stymied development of the country’s resources, much in the way that the development of Iran’s petrochemical sector has been largely devoid of foreign capital. After all, they . . . → Read More: What Next for Libya?

With warped vision, Gadhafi maddened Libya, West
(AP)
2011-10-21 06:55:00 AP - During nearly 42 years in power, Moammar Gadhafi ruled with an eccentric brutality. He was so mercurial he turned Libya into an isolated pariah, then an oil power courted by the West, then back again. At home, his whims became law and his visions became a warped dictatorship, until he was finally toppled by his own people.

WORLDWIDE UNREST
2011-10-04 08:55:00 A recent New York Times article highlights a very fascinating and intriguing movement that's sweeping the globe--unrest. Yes, we've seen it everywhere this year, from the Twitter-induced revolution in Libya, to the riots in London, to the more recent Occupy Wall Street protests in New York City. According to the article, more young people than ever before are outraged with politics and government corruption, and letting it be known! A big factor, the article also explains, has a lot to do with the leaderless Web culture that is so prominent among many of these young rebels. The resources available via the Internet have created almost perfect storm conditions for worldwide upheaval.

Hackgate could be cover for the West?s fiasco in Libya
2011-07-22 10:56:00 By J L Samboma The “Hackgate” scandal, concerning industrial-scale phone-hacking by journalists at Rupert Murdoch’s now-defunct News of the World newspaper, could have been choreographed by the London authorities to provide cover for the West’s stalled bid to effect regime change in Libya, a review by eBeefs of information surrounding the scandal has revealed.

War on Libya leaves Africa at a crossroads
2011-07-12 11:30:00 By J L Samboma The Horn of Africa is today within the stranglehold of drought and famine. Libya, a significant player in the so-called African Union under any reckoning, is currently under sustained imperialist assault by the Western powers, a mass-murdering adventure led by the first black president of the United States of America.

Challenge to Playthell Benjamin: Defend Obama?s war on Libya and Africa
2011-06-21 14:21:00 By J L Samboma As the first African-American leader of the Land of the Free lays waste to the African nation of Libya in league with co-imperialists from the rest of the West, international corporate media from ABC to the BBC are falling over each other to defend the indefensible with their skewed coverage. A few pseudo-leftist intellectuals are also crawling from under their sinecures to join the massed ranks of the media mis-informers.

(4/2011) Libya: The Abdication Of Leadership
2011-04-06 12:04:00 Rick Francona-- It has been two and a half weeks since the United States and a coalition began military operations in Libya to enforce United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973. That resolution authorized all measures to enforce a no-fly zone over the country and protect civilians from the violence in the country. The impetus for that action was the imminent defeat of opposition forces in Benghazi. First, a comment on the timing of the military action. It was a last minute rescue of the opposition. Had coalition aircraft and missiles not been committed to the battle on March 19, Mu'amar al-Qadhafi's tanks and infantry, supported by artillery and helicopter gunships, would have entered Benghazi and wreaked havoc on the surviving opposition fighters. Additionally, there may have been thousands of casualties among civilians either caught in the crossfire, or deliberately slaughtered by Qadhafi's forces to send a message to those who would oppose his regime. If ...

2,200 Marines Go To Libya, 'What Happened to No Boots on the Ground&ap
2011-03-23 21:50:00 -By Warner Todd Huston In all the reporting on the involvement of US Forces in Libya a report by WCTI Channel 12 News in New Bern, North Carolina seems to have gone by almost unnoticed. The News channel reports that 2,200 U.S. Marines have been shipped off the Libya. But doesn't this deployment clash with Obama's supposedly steadfast claim that there will be "no boots on the ground" in Libya? On March 20 WCTI reported that the Marines were shipping out....
Military Action in Libya: Conundrums and Calculations
2011-03-21 19:30:00 -By Warner Todd Huston The military action in Libya undertaken by a "coalition of the willing" at the end of last week is, from an American perspective, as vexing as it is elating. On one hand it is good that the US came to the aid of a people yearning to over thrown a murderous dictator, but on the other it is troubling that America is going into this with no plan, no policy, and no idea who the players on the rebel side even are. On top of all that President Obama is going ahead with this intervention in precisely the same ways that he pointedly criticized President Bush for doing in Iraq. In fact, some on the American...
Libya: Differences of Opinion Emerge Among Allies
2011-03-21 00:39:00 Libya: Differences of Opinion Emerge Among Allies As the first wave of bombardment in Libya has begun, it appears there is already a difference of opinion over the objectives of "Operation Odyssey Dawn." While France was announcing an "historic partnership" with Qatar joining French warplanes "side-by-side," Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff has warned of a possible stalemate in Libya.
War In Libya: US Should Not Have Gotten Involved With It Or France
2011-03-20 00:31:00 War In Libya: US Should Not Have Gotten Involved With It Or France If there is one thing that I have learned in my lifetime, if France is eager to use American "military muscle," then try and avoid it at all costs. Matter of a fact, run like hell! French Indo-China (Viet Nam) should be your first lesson learned when looking at their political motives...I am not a Gadhafi supporter, just a realist. If Libya falls, the power vacuum it creates will grip that nation and then there will be other worries to come...France has long called itself a staunch ally of the U.S., but they far too often forget the American blood that was spilled on their behalf in World War II and Viet Nam.

Lack of Leadership: France Takes Lead in Libya While Obama Fiddles
2011-03-10 23:30:00 -By Warner Todd Huston You know that an American administration has proven useless and ineffective for supporting liberty and freedom in oppressed countries when even France... France... takes the lead in recognizing a struggling, independent liberty movement. Such is the case in Libya where French President Nicolas Sarkozy has recognized and supported the Libyan rebels struggling to over throw Libyan dictator Gaddhafi. For his part, President Obama, the man that is supposed to be fulfilling the role of the "leader of the free world" is attending school bullying pressers and secretly supporting fleebagging Democrats in Wisconsin while practically turning a blind eye to the Libyan rebels fighting for their lives. So France takes the lead in coming to the aid...

Obama Misspells Libya on Twitter Feed
2011-02-23 23:18:00 -By Warner Todd Huston So, not only has Obama turned a deaf ear to the dozens getting killed in Libya by their own mad dictator, but when the White House Twitter feed finally did decide to discuss the country it spelled the name of the place incorrectly. Seriously, White House? "Lybia"? Sounds like something that the Bush Administration would be destroyed over by the left-sold media. So, any chances that the media will make fun of Barack "the world traveller" Obama over this? Yeah, don't hold your breath waiting for the smarter-than-thou left-media pundit class to start lambasting Obama any time soon. Is this all a big deal? No, not really. But it sure is fun to tweak the big...
Queen Fatimah of Libya
2009-09-20 11:43:00 For the first time since a very long time Queen Fatimah of Libya , the last living Queen from the Senussi dynasty was the subject of an Arabic newspaper report . Of course I understand why the Saudi owned Pan Arab newspaper Al Sharq Al Awsat made a report about the 91 years old Queen in exile in the same Qaddafi was celebrating the 40 anniversary of his co-called revolution which is a military coup to be accurate. Queen Fatimah has been living in exile in Cairo since the revolution in 1969 , currently the old Queen is in hospital , hopefully she will get well. I wish time will come and she will see the day her country without Al-Qaddafi. The former Queen has won recently a lawsuit against the State in Libya to restore her old palace in some Libyan city , I do not know if it were Benghazi or Tripoli but I know that currently this palace is the new HQ of the British Embassy in Libya if I were not mistaken. Here is a photo taken for her from several years ago along with an adv...

2008-05-06 23:57:00 Singapore SM Goh urges private sector to take lead in S’pore-Libya investments By Channel NewsAsia’s Asha Popatlal in Tripoli TRIPOLI: The leaders of Singapore and Libya have called on the private sector to take the lead when it comes to investments between Singapore and Libya. However, both governments have agreed to facilitate this and look at co-investments in a third country. The agreement was reached at a meeting between Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and former Libyan prime minister Shukri Ghanem. Mr Shukri is also the National Oil Corporation chairman and a well-known reformist. One of the first stops for Senior Minister Goh when he arrived in Libya was to visit the Old City. With a street plan laid down as far back as Roman times, it remains a bustling area for small Libyan businesses. However, the country has more ambitious plans after years of isolation due to UN sanctions. Mr Goh was briefed on the plans at a welcome dinner hosted by Deputy Secretary-General of...

Libya Allegedly Went on Gun-Buying Spree
2008-04-13 16:09:00 The Libyan officer tried to cloak the purpose of his call to the Italian arms dealer. “A friend,” he said, wanted to buy 1 million “pieces” and 50 million items of “food.” But when that phone call was placed in 2006, Italian police were listening. They knew the meaning. Libya was shopping for guns — lots of them. Authorities shadowed the negotiations between Libyan officials and a group of black-market dealers from across Italy for a year before they moved in and broke up what would have been a $64 million deal for hundreds of thousands of Chinese-made assault rifles.
