Linspire Ex CEO Kevin Carmony Speaks Out
2008-07-04 12:03:00 Earlier this week it was announced that corporate Linux distributor Xandros had acquired upstart San Diego based Linux distributor Linspire. For those of you not familiar with Linspire, they are the company that irked Microsoft by announcing a Linux product called Lindows. It was aimed at the low end PC market as a direct replacement ...
Linspire About To Expire?
2008-07-03 15:34:00 I am not a Linux guru, I just use stuff, 34 years in the computer industry has tired me out. The fun decades were the 70’s and 80’s, those decades were the Wild West of the industry. These days the industry has lost its luster. There are new inventions and innovations everyday, but somehow they ...

Linspire?s Market Has Changed: Adopt Or Die
2008-03-17 05:45:00 There is no question that most Linux distributions are too much for most people. I say this as a PC power user who happens to be a full-time Ubuntu/Fedora user. And back in 2004-2005, Linspire was indeed, the best overall beginner-friendly Linux option in the market. Then came improvements to Mandriva, new options like Ubuntu and PCLinuxOS (based on Mandriva), and recently, the new Fedora 8.

Linspire to Announce Another Sub-$200 PC
2008-01-18 18:00:00 For those who feel it's not fair to have that many low-cost sub-notebooksBy: Bogdan Botezatu, Hardware Editor | softpedia.com There's nothing more appealing to the consumer than a cheap and (maybe) decent PC system. The ultra-mobile sector has been invaded by ultra-low-cost sub-notebooks, such as the XO, Asustek's Eee PC and so on, and it's time for the desktop PCs to release their low-cost alternatives. The low-cost desktop PC market is dominated by two major players that are currently offering sub-$200 desktop PC configurations: Everex with their gPC and the newcomer Mirus Innovations with the Shuttle PC desktop system. The desktop PC is available immediately for $199 and can be purchased through the Sears online shop."Our system builders have been forging new ground in the low-end Linux PC market for over 5 years now," said Larry Kettler, President and CEO of Linspire, Inc. "This latest system from Mirus Innovations is the most robust hardware and software configuration...
Linspire: It Just Keeps Getting Better
2007-12-08 14:41:00 About 6 weeks ago I made the big change, out with Windows and in with Linux. Linspire is a commercial Linux distribution and was billed as the easiest to use and most user friendly. Guess what? It is the easiest, what amazed me was that the distribution, a mere one CD contained not just the ...
Linspire Update, Three Weeks On
2007-11-02 16:22:00 It was three weeks ago that I took the plunge and purged the dreaded Microsoft Windows from my computer in favor of Linux based Linspire. Windows went to that big bit bucket in the sky! So after 3 weeks of using it on a daily basis I thought it was time to collect my thoughts ...
An Interview With Larry Kettler President And CEO Of Linspire
2007-10-20 16:34:00 For those of you not familiar with Linspire it is a distribution of the Linux Operating System. Software Review: Windows Out, Linspire In!
2007-10-13 14:23:00 I have had a love/hate relationship with Windows for many years, I saw the first version in 1985, and it was awful. I saw version 2, the wazoo version for the 286. I waited patiently for version 3, and that was crap as well. Of course Windows 95, and a boatload of development has changed our thinking. Windows has elevated itself from joke to pain in the butt! The major governments of the world (Everyone but Iran and Myanmar) are charging Microsoft with monopolies violations. And I have to admit that I am in agreement. It is a stupid program, It is 25 times bigger than it needs to be, and if you want to type a simple review (and your spelling sux) you need to plonk down another $400 for Microsoft Office. The way Microsoft sees it, the software costs more than the hardware. A $300 computer from Best Buy becomes a $1500 money pit. I have spent the last week in Windows hell, I have been the victim of virus writers, and indeed a victim of Microsoft themselves, I believe they call the pr...

Linspire/Microsoft
2007-07-23 17:46:00 Linux: Linspire/Microsoft Agreement Useless to Users Posted by Zonk on Monday July 23, @03:29AM from the par-for-the-course dept. Stephen Samuel writes "Groklaw host PJ has dissected the 'patent peace' agreement between Linspire and Microsoft, and has determined that what Linspire agreed to is next to useless for many users. Essentially, under the agreement Linspire software is almost unusable: 'You can't share the software with others, pass it on with the patent promise, modify your own copy, or even use it for an "unauthorized" purpose, whatever that means in a software context. You must pay Linspire for the software, but then the "covenant" says to use Linux, you must also pay Microsoft. That payment doesn't cover upgrades. Linspire said it was absorbing the initial fees, but I don't know about upgrades. New functionality means you lose your coverage or presumably must pay again.'"source : slashdot.org

2007-06-15 02:49:00 Linspire and Microsoft are teaming up to release an open source operating system that helps to blur the line between the two OS’s.
