Twitter lists making tweeting better, easier
2009-11-09 15:00:00
Not since that Chinese restaurant on "Seinfeld" put Elaine Benes on its list have lists generated so much buzz.Granted, that was the do not deliver list, but Twitter's new list feature could--make that will--revolutionize the service. One of the biggest complaints up until now about Twitter was its unfriendly system of keeping track of people.Case in point, as the guy behind @redeyechicago and its nearly 16,000 followers, I miss a lot of important tweets simply because I can't keep up with them.Lists changes all that but does so much more. Here are four ways to get something out of lists quickly....

That List of Lists That List the Best Graphic Design Resources on the Web
2009-07-17 20:28:00
It’s not been a lot of time since I spoke about standards and quality of creatives here at WATBlog. Now one of the more important points that is often neglected though is the creatives and best practices involved in them. Better standards of design not only web but graphic improves user experience, advertising and in general creates a better looking web ecosystem. In a bid to provide more resources for budding digital designers in India, I thought of compiling a list of design resources from around the web. However, designers know designs best and I couldn’t come anywhere close to beating any of the following lists. So I decided to list them sort of as a bookmark for others to come back and read often. (Warning: Some of these are huge in numbers) 99 Sites All Designers Should Know Jacob Cass of Just Creative Designs lists this mamoth post about 99 sites that all designers must be aware of on the web. The post is quite well categorized for such a huge number and kudos to ...

Leftover Pizza Will Probably Make It Onto Many Of These Lists (3 Good Thin
2009-06-19 14:13:00
A long time ago, I read that one simple way to keep up a positive outlook and have a better life is to, at the end of each day, remind yourself of 3 Good Things that happened that day. I started doing that-- but I changed it to the next morning. Each morning, now, when I get up, I think of 3 Good Things that happened to me the day before so that I begin my new day with a good, positive outlook. I've decided to start sharing those, so here goes with the first:Thursday's Three Good Things.1. I scored 27 points against The Boy in basketball, almost beating him.2. I got to go to the Splash Park with the Babies! -- at 10 a.m. On a Thursday.3. There was leftover pizza for lunch.

Deep Thought: Lists
2009-02-11 13:45:00

Grocery Lists
2009-01-14 05:30:00
I'm not sure what it says about the state of the world, but I'm often fascinated that there is no topic on which someone or other has not published. There are, for example, two books available on lost grocery lists:Milk Eggs Vodka: Grocery Lists Lost and Found (Hardcover)and the even more interesting A la Cart by performance artist Hilary Carlip. These are second only to "The Barbed Wire Collector Magazine" (the only remaining magazine on the topic, we are told, which suggests there used to be competitors) as most surprising demographic.... Who are the subscribers here? And what, after over 30 years and nearly 200 issues, is there left to say about Barbed Wire?

Vote for Best Female Endorser at CELEBRYTHINGThrough the years, we've seen how celebrities were used as a product endorser and how it added up to the success of their showbiz career. In fact, some popular stars today?like Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes, Isabel Oli, Ryan Agoncillo, and Carmina Villarroel?were first seen in TV commercials before joining the showbiz industry. With all the advertisements we see on television, radio, newspapers, and even billboards, it just follows that a consumer will wonder, "How much do these celebrities earn from endorsements?"In the October 2008 issue of YES! magazine, they interviewed executives from the advertising industry to describe how they choose a certain celeban authority who explained why consumers oftentimes believe in the statements of these stars in their commercials.YES! also listed down 20 local celebrities who are always in demand and regarded as effective product endorsers."The list you see here is our own," clarifies YES! Are Mailing Lists Dead?
2008-06-05 00:16:00
B2B MarketingMarketing is marketing is market, so the marketing folks tell you. The old fashion way was by mail or in person. To the get the most exposure you would use the snail mail with fliers to seen the word out to current and potential customers. I still use the snail mail for about 90 percent of price changes, sales and new product announcements. Over the year we have built-up a business mailing lists, this list is the bread and butter of marketing, current buyers and old that have not bought in a while. The potential customer are in a separate business list for special mailing, phone call or a face to face visit. The US mail is still a good marketing medium in comparison to email marketing, but a lot more expensive. What do you want, real cheap and never know if they get the marketing flier or send the flier by mail, and you might get lucking it gets to the correct party. What do you think?Cheers

A while back a friend of mine was getting frustrated with a news site he was trying to get set up in MOSS and asked me for some help.  His issue seemed pretty straight-forward, he wanted to add an Announcements web part to the main page of the site but couldn't find the web part anywhere in the site's web part gallery to be added.  I'm a little embarrassed to say that the solution to our problem didn't immediately come to me, but at the same time when your brain is working in a certain direction it's all too easy to overlook the simple solutions. My first instinct was to check his site's Site Features and Site Collection Features in the Site Settings to see what was activated or deactivated.  His Enterprise features were enabled, as were his Standard features and Team Collaboration features.  So this wasn't a case of available functionality being disabled so that the web part couldn't be used.  Next I checked the file ser...

TURN GROCERY LISTS INTO MIND MAPS WITH TEXT2MINDMAP
2008-05-28 02:08:00
We've looked at quite a few mind mapping tools here on Webware. Most recently, Webware's Rafe Needleman checked out a half dozen services that do the job one way or another. Nearly all of them require you to build and develop maps in a giant 2D space, something I think most people will spend more time trying to figure out rather than simply getting ideas down, which is where Text2MindMap is quite handy. Instead of having you build out your ideas on some huge network of nodes, the tool lets you simply write down a list. Whenever you place indents, it will separate the bundle of items into a node, with little sub-nodes below each one. It makes it delightfully simple to put together huge mind maps in a very short amount of time--and without futzing about with any special control schemes or overly ambitious UIs. Missing are some advanced bits, like special icons to help categorize what each node is, or a way to zoom around the canvas once your work becomes a giant storm of items....
The Book of Lists: Abridged
2008-05-23 02:13:00
Just watched 'Charlie Wilson's War'. Wellmade (as to be expected from Mike Nichol's with a high-powered cast), but very uncritical and not nearly as intelligent as it thinks.Boss retires next week so big party tomorrow night. Mental note: don't get too drunk! Well, that's stupid. Mental note revised: try to be nice drunk.Rental of this apartment nearly completed until the landlord decided to change the agreement we had agreed on. I have revised the revised agreement and await eviction.Feel like I've been on auto-pilot these last few weeks; not much to get excited about.Recently read Martin Amis's 'The Rachel Papers'. Smart writer, but shallower than a stream in the Sahara. Of course, 'shallow' is part of the point of a book that has a truly obnoxious 19 year-old as the protagonist. Entertainment Weekly magazine has assembled a list of the 25 Country Albums You Need to Hear (Even If You Hate Country Music). Spinner Picks Really Bad Songs by Really Good Artists
2008-05-14 01:03:00
We post all sorts of lists here, no because we think they are right or show great authority, but because they are fun to consider, discuss and even argue about.Which brings us to today's list from Spinner. It's 20 Bad Songs by Good Bands (and by bands, they really mean artists since there's a few soloists here). I really can't argue with a number of these picks. Dancing in the Dark may have been the big top forty break for Springsteen, but it is one of his most uncharacteristic tracks. 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover always seemed like amateur songwriter rhymes and Roses just stunk. On the other hand, how can you fault Stand by R.E.M.
