Time magazine lists ?Five Reasons to Visit Beirut?
2011-11-04 20:35:00 Gail Simmons from Time Travel magazine listed 5 reasons to visit Beirut. Here is the why he think so: The National Museum: Lebanon’s premier museum is now surrounded by the glitzy high-rises of Beirut’s renaissance. This 1940s pharaonic-style building is home to artifacts spanning Lebanon’s long history, including the sarcophagus of Ahiram, King of Byblos, on which is inscribed the first known Phoenician alphabet ? the prototype of modern Western versions. But perhaps the most moving exhibit is the documentary showing the painstaking restoration of the shelled building after the 1975-90 civil war. Byblos: The Phoenician port that gave its name to bible reached its heyday in the 2nd millennium B.C., though its revival came in the 1960s when luminaries such as Bardot, Brando et al. pitched up there. They went to admire the excavated ruins, crusader castle and Romanesque church, and to eat seafood at Pepe’s, a Lebanese institution that still counts Presidents am...
CNN Lists Behance Network as Place To Get Hired
2011-06-03 21:02:00 CNN writer Dave Stephens published an article today backing the "UnCollege" social movement that advocates self-directed higher education. In describing how the Internet is replacing some of the benefits of the networking that college allows, he said: "Employers are recruiting on LinkedIn, Facebook, StackOverflow, and Behance. People are hiring on Twitter, selling their skills on Google, and creating personal portfolios to showcase their talent." Read full article here: College is a waste of time

2011-02-16 22:09:00 Remember when you used to go to a restaurant, get a cardboard menu, and pay with cash? Or how about when you would put your name in at the host stand, and sit there to make sure you heard it screamed when your table was ready?Neither do I.Slowly but surely, the computer and other neato technology have crept into the dining scene. Touch screen ordering systems for servers and kitchens have been around for years, as have pagers that alert you when your table is ready. Yet it seems like in the past year or two, we've seen some pretty big jumps in gadgets and gizmos in the front of the house. On today's WGN Evening News, I went to check...

Tattler readers share their CTA wish lists
2010-11-29 14:00:00 There are some thoughtful ideas on the holiday wish lists for CTA Tattler readers. You might have missed them Friday, so I will recap the top ideas.First, my top three:Fix Train Tracker, quickly. Reinstate service cuts, especially late night bus service. Decrease intervals between train run. And some reader ideas from their wish lists. First, there were some differences of opinion on the new aisle-facing seats coming in the new Series 5000. Scooter Libbby called for an end "to the idiocy of sideway seats." But AB and ibright are both big fans. And I agree with ibright that the seats would be better if they were just bench seats instead of individual seats.Ibright also wishes the X bus express service...

Ten Commandments Of Marriage
2010-04-19 16:00:00 Commandment 1 Marriages are made in heaven. But so are thunder and lightning. Commandment 2 If you want your wife to listen and pay strict attention to every word you say; talk in your sleep. Commandment 3 Marriage is grand -- and divorce is at least 100 grand! Commandment 4 Married life is very frustrating. In the first year of marriage, the man speaks and the woman listens. In the second year, the ...

iPad poised to join lists of most frequently stolen items
2010-01-28 07:13:00 The iPad is out. All joking aside (will this product have wings, how will it react if I pour blue liquid on it, etc) at 9.5" x 7.5" it's just the right size to be really convenient, and very easy to steal. Like GPS units, digital cameras and leather coats, the iPad is destined to become a popular item to steal from parked cars. Not to mention that it will provide yet another means by which the tech-obsessed can ignore their surroundings while on public transportation and make targets of themselves. Maybe The Windy City Rounder can start a pool (using play money people, I know gambling is illegal) on how long it will take before the first iPad transit...

2010-01-01 18:45:00 Thank the lord that we're just about done with New Years and the endless, infernal lists. The 10 best of 2009. The 10 best of the decade. The 10 worst. The ugliest. The most attractive. The most important, the most significant. Politics, movies, celebrities, songs. Ten best or most popular resolutions. Years in review. Ten predictions. Most significant women. Person of the year. Ten most homophobic moments. Ten most politically correct preachments. The year's worst new words. Most memorable quotes. The biggest winners. The biggest losers.Every year, the list making consumes an ever greater percentage of the GDP. What is the compulsion? Every year newsrooms around the country are brainstorming the best and the worst of the last year and predictions...

Twitter lists making tweeting better, easier
2009-11-09 15:00:00 Not since that Chinese restaurant on "Seinfeld" put Elaine Benes on its list have lists generated so much buzz.Granted, that was the do not deliver list, but Twitter's new list feature could--make that will--revolutionize the service. One of the biggest complaints up until now about Twitter was its unfriendly system of keeping track of people.Case in point, as the guy behind @redeyechicago and its nearly 16,000 followers, I miss a lot of important tweets simply because I can't keep up with them.Lists changes all that but does so much more. Here are four ways to get something out of lists quickly....

How to Make Use of Twitter Lists
2009-11-02 23:01:00 Twitter has been rolling out their new Lists feature to tweeps over the last few weeks. If you’re still waiting, be patient (or whine about it in the public stream like I did). The feature was made available to me last week and unfortunately I was so busy I had to wait until the weekend to play with it. But now that I have, I’m excited to share my experience and suggestions with you. What are Twitter Lists? Twitter Lists are nothing more than groupings of your tweeps based on categories you choose. For example: I have 3 lists thus far, (1) RE Rockstars, (2) Tech Influencers, and (3) Keepin’ It Real. Tweeps can exist in multiple lists, but at this point it looks like you are limited to creating 20 lists. How to create your Twitter Lists: (1)  When the feature is available to you, you will know! A happy blue bird will invite you to “create a new list” right on your home page. (2)  To get started, select the “create a new list” button at the top of your profile. Or...

That List of Lists That List the Best Graphic Design Resources on the Web
2009-07-17 20:28:00 It’s not been a lot of time since I spoke about standards and quality of creatives here at WATBlog. Now one of the more important points that is often neglected though is the creatives and best practices involved in them. Better standards of design not only web but graphic improves user experience, advertising and in general creates a better looking web ecosystem. In a bid to provide more resources for budding digital designers in India, I thought of compiling a list of design resources from around the web. However, designers know designs best and I couldn’t come anywhere close to beating any of the following lists. So I decided to list them sort of as a bookmark for others to come back and read often. (Warning: Some of these are huge in numbers) 99 Sites All Designers Should Know Jacob Cass of Just Creative Designs lists this mamoth post about 99 sites that all designers must be aware of on the web. The post is quite well categorized for such a huge number and kudos to ...

Smaller Email Lists Get Better Open Rates
2009-07-06 17:04:00 According to the ?Email Marketing Metrics Report? by MailerMailer, 12.5% of unique marketing e-mails were opened in the second half of 2008. The figure is down from the first half of 2008, when 13.2% of messages were opened. How often e-mails were opened and clicked varied with the industry of the sender?and the size of the list. Messages delivered to small and medium lists had higher open and click-through rates than messages delivered to lists of 1,000 or more subscribers. Religious and spiritual organizations had the highest open rates among large lists, followed by telecommunications and travel companies. Click-through rates for lists of over 1,000 recipients were also highest for religious e-mails, followed by travel, general consumer and retail. ?A smaller list does not directly affect open and click rates, but mailings to smaller lists may be targeted better, contain more relevant content or have more recent subscribers,? wrote the authors of the report.

Leftover Pizza Will Probably Make It Onto Many Of These Lists (3 Good Thin
2009-06-19 14:13:00 A long time ago, I read that one simple way to keep up a positive outlook and have a better life is to, at the end of each day, remind yourself of 3 Good Things that happened that day. I started doing that-- but I changed it to the next morning. Each morning, now, when I get up, I think of 3 Good Things that happened to me the day before so that I begin my new day with a good, positive outlook. I've decided to start sharing those, so here goes with the first:Thursday's Three Good Things.1. I scored 27 points against The Boy in basketball, almost beating him.2. I got to go to the Splash Park with the Babies! -- at 10 a.m. On a Thursday.3. There was leftover pizza for lunch.

Grocery Lists
2009-01-14 05:30:00 I'm not sure what it says about the state of the world, but I'm often fascinated that there is no topic on which someone or other has not published. There are, for example, two books available on lost grocery lists:Milk Eggs Vodka: Grocery Lists Lost and Found (Hardcover)and the even more interesting A la Cart by performance artist Hilary Carlip. These are second only to "The Barbed Wire Collector Magazine" (the only remaining magazine on the topic, we are told, which suggests there used to be competitors) as most surprising demographic.... Who are the subscribers here? And what, after over 30 years and nearly 200 issues, is there left to say about Barbed Wire?
The importance of lists
2009-01-10 11:58:00 Happy New Year? Not on FridaySo there I was driving back up the M1 motorway following a meeting in East London. I was so absorbed in my thinking that I completely missed two junctions and found myself at Junction 18 adding another half an hour to my journey. Poo.Anyway, what I was so self-abosrbed in was the subject of LISTS. What got me thinking about lists was the conversation I had just had with the sales director of an office equipment company. It reminded me of a problem that just keeps surfacing. When sales people use CRM systems they quite rightly complain about the time it takes to fill in all of the record data. Why? becuase the user doesn't always want to add (or see) all of the data that managers do. They just want to order their thinking and make sure they spend their time on the most important things rather than the 'can do' subjects that are sometimes easier to do but are less beneficial in achieving outcomes. The technology problem with this is that databases - par...
