Technically, it's a unique peice of work: instead of the usual turbocharger location that you'd expect, the turbos are housed inside the V of the engine. The cylinders heads are reversed, with the exhaust ports inside the V and the intake ports on the outside. Advantage: packaging of the engine in roughly the same width and length as the standard V-8. Disadvantage: height, heat on the top of the engine, and management of overall airflow thru the engine compartment. 2008-04-30 16:52:00 Automotive News (April 28, 2008) reports that Ford has developed a new 1.6 liter DOHC 4-cylinder direct-injected and turbocharged engine branded as EcoBoost in Europe. This is the third use of the EcoBoost brand so far, after the 2 liter and 3.5 liter EcoBoost engines in North America. Ford's Bridgend plant in Southern Wales will build the engine and it will be used in the Focus, Mondeo, S-Max, and Fiesta models in Europe. The new engine is aimed at offering a more economical and cleaner (particularly CO2) alternative to the larger 2 and 2.3 liter engines currently offered. Ford of Europe will also export up to 300,000 of these engines to the United States by the end of 2009 for an unspecified model. We know that the Fiesta and Focus European models are coming to North America after that timeframe so this is likely, along with the eventual Fusion or Fusion replacement. No photos or technical information is available yet.

Additionally, the Swift DDiS will be free of any Congestion Charges in London due to its emissions of less than 120g/km of C02. The new Swift will probably be a decent drive, with 125 lb ft (170 Nm) at just 2000 rpm being plenty to get the little car moving. What's more, the turbo diesel mill will return 61.4 mpg in the Combined cycle. Priced at £10,515 in the U.K., the new DDiS model lies in the middle of the Swift range and marks a pretty decent value for the money. Ford 3.7 liter V-6 enters production (updated)
2007-07-20 12:03:00 We've known for the past year that Ford will release a 3.7 liter variant of the new 3.5 liter DOHC V-6. The following press release is the first reference to that engine going into production, where it will power the 2008 CX-9. The CX-9 is a lengthened version of the Ford Edge, and is a bit heavy for the 3.5 liter V-6 engine it used in it's first year of production. Clearly a bit more torque will help. The 2008 CX-9, with the 3.7 liter engine, makes: HP: 273 @ 6250 rpm torque: 270 @ 4250 rpm By comparison, the 2007 CX-9, with the 3.5 liter engine, made: HP: 263 @ 6250 rpm torque: 249 @ 4500 rpm Discussion: we've known since the original announcements that further variantions of this engine were coming - from a rear wheel drive version to a twin-turbocharged version (and my site has a pic of the rear wheel drive version).
