Defense bet: Leeb's look at Lockheed (LMT)
2008-10-22 06:00:00
“Investors should be well rewarded in the coming years by buying with major U.S. defense companies at current prices,” says Gregory Dorsey (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2486). The contributing editor to Stephen Leeb's Income Performance Letter (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2486) explains, "The U.S. has more than doubled our sales of armaments to foreign nations over the past three years. And regardless of who wins the election, we expect this to continue.”"We’re adding one for growth and income to our portfolio now. Lockheed Martin (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=lmt) (NYSE: LMT (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=lmt)) is a premier defense contractor. It’s best known for its fighter jets.“For example, Lockheed is now developing the F-35, also known as the Joint Strike Fighter, the replacement for the current generation of front-line fighters.“But the company is actu...
Lockheed Shed

This is a piece of a WOII Lockheed Hudson fuselage. The part is obtained by the RNZAF Museum Ohakea somewhere in the 90ies from a farmer who turned it into a shed. The aluminium of the plane has oxidated but seems in good condition. On the left a curve is visible: here the left-wing was placed. On the 13th of May 2007 the RNZAF museum closed it gates. Until than the fuselage was not restored, but at the back the former shed-wall was removed. This wall kept the fuselage toghether. The fuselage bended and there are now some dents visible http://i48.photobucket.com/albu-ms/f224/DaveHomewood/Ohakea%20M-useum/_DSC0777a.jpg and http://www.flickr.com/photos/38-049473@N00/320367918/ Farmer shed (until 1998), Museum piece (until 2007), current ? A look at Lockheed (LMT)
2008-08-06 07:00:00
"Partial insulation from the economic slowdown, coupled with new military-aircraft programs, give Lockheed Martin (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=lmt) (NYSE: LMT (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=lmt)) attractive capital-gains potential over the next several years," says Richard Moroney (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2246). In his top-notch Dow Theory Forecasts (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2246), the advisor explains, "A diversified business mix provides investors a measure of safety in a difficult economic climate. The stock is a Focus List Buy.""Lockheed seems well-positioned with regards to the U.S. defense budget, with very little exposure to Iraq. The company is capable of growing profi ts even if the new U.S. president pulls troops out of the country. "While defense-spending growth is likely to slow in coming years, ongoing security threats and the need to replace aging equipment should keep ...

Instead, you can buy it from Toys “R” Us, he says. Crawford, who works as a principal investigator for R&D projects at Lockheed Martin’s ...

F-117 Nighthawk Retired
2008-04-27 16:03:00
I was lucky enough to not only see the Nighthawk fly on several occasions, but also to get an up close and personal tour as a scrub mechanic at an airshow in 1995. It was an amazing, beautiful aircraft in many ways, and it doesn’t seem right that it’s retired already when the F-15 ...

Lockheed F-117A Nighthawk ‘Black Jet’ Stealth Bomber Informally Retired
2008-03-12 14:07:00
Yesterday (11/03/08) an official announcement confirmed what has been on the cards for a while in stating that the US’s entire fleet of F-117A Nighthawk Stealth Bombers* have now been informally retired from service. The news is hardly a shock announcement as it’s well known that the F-117A is an extremely and somewhat notoriously expensive aircraft to maintain and, with military expenditure at a premium, the money saved will purportedly be used for procurement of F-22 Raptors and F-35 Lightning IIs. Credit - Yours Truly (RIAT ‘07) Discussed the impending retirement of the F117A with one of the pilots. He had a noticeable tear in his eye. The F-117A was the first true ‘stealth’ aircraft to see full active service (arguably the SR-71 – also a ‘Skunk Works’ design and long since retired – was ‘stealthy’ but was not a true low-observable stealth) and, during its top secret development at Area 51 was blamed for a spate of UFO sightings on account of its highl...

India buys Lockheed planes, US sees breakthrough
2008-02-06 14:40:00
Washington (ANTARA News) - India has agreed to buy six Lockheed Martin Corp C-130J military transport planes in a breakthrough deal with the United States worth about $1 billion that opens a door to closer strategic ties, U.S. officials said on Tuesday. India and the U.S. signed an agreement on Jan. 31 for Lockheed to start delivering the four-engine Super Hercules turboprop aircraft in 2011, said Bruce Lemkin, who handles U.S. Air Force international affairs. The deal marks a major shift in weapons-buying policy by India, which for decades has relied heavily on Russian arms and transport aircraft. The United States has been eager to boost strategic ties with India as a hedge against China’s military clout. Nicholas Burns, the No. 3 U.S. State Department official whose retirement was announced last month, wrote late last year that in reaching out to India, the United States was betting the planet’s future lay in democracy and market economics rather than “despotism...
India to offer $1 bn aircraft deal to Lockheed Martin: Official
2008-01-29 13:19:00
NEW DELHI: India is set to award a one-billion dollar contract to Lockheed Martin for six Hercules transport planes in the biggest military aircraft deal with the US in five decades, an official said on Monday. A formal contract is likely to be issued next month to US-based Lockheed which is also in the race for a $10 billion contract to sell 126 fighter jets to the Indian air force, a defence ministry official said. "The reserved RFP (request for proposal) will be issued anytime now," a top ministry source told media on condition that he was not identified by name or rank. A meeting of India's security cabinet led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh last week cleared the deal for six C-130J planes for special forces operations and left options open for further purchases, the source said. The clearance comes ahead of an official trip to India next month by US Defence Secretary Robert Gates. "The contract will be the most capital-intensive military aircraft deal awarded to a US firm si...

What?s this? EESTOR convinces Lockheed Martin it?s on to something
2008-01-11 08:15:00
The EESTOR ultracapacitor is a technology we really, really want to know more about. The huge potential of these devices that we do know about certainly keeps our ears open for news - or rumors or anything, really - about the technology. We don't know much more about the actual ultracaps (aka Electrical Energy Storage Units or EESU), but Lockheed Martin must like them. The not-exactly-risk-friendly company - I mean, they work the bountiful government system with aplomb - has "signed an exclusive international rights agreement to integrate and market Electrical Energy Storage Units (EESU) from EEStor, Inc., for military and homeland security applications." It sounds like the EESU's will be used in LM's BattPack. Want more details? Sorry. "Specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed."So, about those promises. The EESUs are a ceramic battery "that could provide 10 times the energy density of lead acid batteries at 1/10th the weight and volume" and will supposedly cost half as...
Lockheed Martin Signs Agreement with EEStor

Mostly, we talk about the Volt here, but relevant and related topics are often worth discussing. Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II land mark flight
2007-12-11 14:23:00
The 7th of December marked the 20th test flight for the F35 'Joint Strike Fighter'. This aircraft is a particular favourite of mine, and even though it has it's fair share of detractors I think this plane is a stunning piece of technology and design.Credit: https://www.teamjsf.com/ More importantly, this fighter is a hugely important part of the Royal Navy's future strategy, as the key aircraft that will be deployed on it's 'Future Carrier'. This will be Britain's return to the 'large carrier' format after it's flirtation with the Invincible small carrier class. The UK's F-35s - totaling 150 F-35Bs - are due in-service in 2012, and will replace the aging Sea Harrier and Harrier GR.7s types.“The Lightning II embodies a long list of advancements that will make it better, smarter and more reliable than anything that’s come before it, and those technologies are extraordinarily mature in this first-ever F-35,” Beesley said. “When you project ahead to th...

Quantum Radar - Lockheed jumps the gun

The Guardian recently drew attention to the aspirations of Lockheed Martin to develop a “quantum radar” that can “see through anything, from buildings to solid earth”.
