Gears of War's Locust Inspired by Tolkien
2007-09-13 00:02:00 It's usually fairly easy to the JRR Tolkein's influence on the average RPG, but CliffyB says his shooter Gears of War took inspiration from Lord of the Rings, as well.In an interview with CVG, Blezinski explains that the game's enemy, the Locust, have more than a little in common with LOTR's Uruk-hai:We wanted the Locust to be intelligent savages; they're like the Uruk-hai in LOTR, only with guns. The Uruk-hai would organise themselves, line up and then storm in - even though they look like horrible monsters. That's what the Locust essentially are: bipedal, thick-skinned, but also smart enough to build and use their own weaponry. They use tactics - they're not just running at you mindlessly.All we need now is a Hobbit mod. Source: CVG & Game|Life Online Games Gears of War Tolkien shooter LOTR Locust Xbox PC games

The Locust
2007-09-07 13:35:00 It?s hard not to have at least a grudging respect for the desert locust. It has survived on Earth for millions of years, thriving in the heat and aridity of the world?s most inhospitable deserts. For the most part, the insect known as Schistocerca gregaria goes quietly about its inscrutable insect business, a solitary and inconspicuous brown speck concealed in clumps of widely scattered desert vegetation, subsisting on even the most noxious weeds when necessary.Our admiration can only be carried so far, though, when this seemingly shy and inconspicuous insect reveals its surprising dark side. Throughout recorded human history, and surely long before, locust plagues have periodically poured forth from their arid confines and invaded areas where people live, farm, and graze their livestock. Their impact on human lives has often been so crippling that records of plagues have taken on religious significance and made their way into sacred and historical texts. LIKE LOCUSTS
2007-09-05 22:09:00 7- They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts.54-The Moon, 7In the verse above, unbelievers are reminded that they will be resurrected and that it will be a difficult day for them. Imagine, billions of men rising from the dead, coming out of their graves! Confusion, perplexity, fear, remorse... Everybody on his own... The only help is from God. The day when high offices, families, riches and possessions have no value- the day of no return...The resurrected are likened to locusts; why particularly locusts? Recent research benefiting from micro cameras conducted by a systematic observation of insects have given us an idea about the reason for the selection of locusts as an example. To begin with, swarms of locusts, billions of them together, give the impression of a vast rain cloud without end, a black mass stretching far and wide many kilometers! Locusts bury their eggs in the earth and their larvae spend some time under the ground before t...
Locusts are Killing Bamboo Forest...
2007-08-14 09:46:00 In China, a special pesticide mix is used to kill locusts plaguing a bamboo forest in Chongqing. The pesticide used is actually a mixture of urine and Dylox. Five forest protection stations were issued with buckets to collect more urine for the mix. The pests have been plaguing more than 130 hectares of the forest since April and their numbers exploded last month. Current estimates of the number of locusts stand at 10 locusts per square meter.
Gears of War, sorry Cogs but the Locust are cooler
2007-07-08 00:26:00 Gears of War is the video game I have been playing mostly recently. My home PC has done it's days and now cannot run any recently released games. It is in dire need of an upgrade and I hope to revive it from scratch this Christmas so for now it's main uses are for internet, music and anime. A long time friend of mine owns a video game arcade in Kingston that I frequent and since Gears of War dropped at the arcade it's been a real struggle keeping up with the demand, but they are managing and with networked 6 Xbox 360's at least for of them are always locked in local multiplayer matches. I... Please visit Jamaipanese.com for the rest of this entry
Locust Bike a Good Investment?
2007-05-16 02:01:00 It has been years since I've ridden a bike, other than a stationary fitness bike. I've thought about it a lot, but never really did anything to get back on one. Besides, there aren't many places around where I live to ride a bike without needing to drive several miles to a park. I could risk the busy streets, but I think my bravery flew out the window as soon as I had kids. Then a few months ago my daughter received a bike as a gift and it got me thinking about how nice it would be to go bike riding with her, even if just at the park. It would give us a chance to bond more and exercise together. read more &raqu-o;
What?s Next?Locust??
2007-05-07 04:54:00 Okay…this has been a very weird week here at chez Anderson-Howard. If I were a religious person (and I most certainly am not), I’d swear we’ve somehow incurred the ten plagues. I think as of today, we’re working on either #3 or #4. I’ll backtrack a little to explain. Now that it’s finally warming up in this area, ...
