She was only the second Mexican to become a member of the world's leading women's golf tour, where she quickly became one of the tour's top players and the first Mexican golfer of either gender to be ranked number one in the world.Ochoa grew up next door to the Guadalajara Country Club and took up golf at the age of five. Sometimes I check out the local newspapers online to see what staff writers are coming up with and other times I check the blogger rolls. I just happened to be googling the name "LPGA" and came up with this news article. I'm sure that we are all aware that the LPGA will be testing for performance-enhancing drugs as well as changing the format to a three-hole playoff at this year's U.S. Women's Open. No, I had no problem with that part of the commentary. I take offense at the line, "...because clearly, Lorena Ochoa is on something..." after mentioning drug evaluation. Does the writer believe that the only reason Ochoa had such a great season was because she was pumped up on steroids? Opinionated views like this one do nothing but discredit the author. 2006-12-22 04:13:04 Did Tiger Woods text-message Annika Sorenstam to gloat after winning his eighth GWAA player of the year award? Probably not because he must be too busy preening over being deemed Biography Channel's "Biography of the Year". Catch the Tiger Woods documentary December 21st. Check your local listings. Did Lorena Ochoa inwardly chuckle after snatching that same award from Annika Sorenstam's grasp? The Golf Writers Association of America believed Ochoa to be more worthy of receiving this year's accolade than Sorenstam and rightfully so. The Mexican sensation finished off the 2006 season with six wins on the LPGA Tour versus half that amount for Annika. Ochoa also led the official money list and came away with Vare trophy for low scoring average, an honor bestowed upon Sorenstam six-times in eleven years.
