Boston Red Sox News & Notes ? 9/18
2009-09-18 17:01:00
Last night was one of those would of, could of, should have won games for the Boston Red Sox against the Los Angeles Angels at Fenway Park. After falling behind on a Howie Kendrick home run in the third inning, Jacoby Ellsbury got the Red Sox on the board with a solo home run in the ...

With the game last night between the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels lasting four hours and seven minutes, you would have thought that the New York Yankees were in town. Obviously they weren’t but we did witness an October-like game at the Fens. Mistakes were plentiful in this one by both sides. And as ...

Who was that guy on the mound last night for the Boston Red Sox and where did they get him from? That’s right it was the Daisuke Matsuzaka that was advertised about back when the Red Sox signed him before the 2007 season. He was definitely not the same pitcher we’ve seen over the last 2 ...

As we know by now, Justin Masterson made his debut with the Boston Red Sox yesterday. He was outstanding on the bump but the bullpen couldn’t hold the lead they gave him. For Masterson, it wasn’t part of his plan, he thought his debut may come in September. And despite the late news, his family ...
Masterson Good; Bullpen Wasn?t As Sox Lose
2008-04-24 23:22:00
The Los Angeles Angels couldn’t do much of anything with Boston rookie starter Justin Masterson. They just had to wait to get him out of the game and get into the usually solid Boston bullpen. Los Angeles got four runs in the seventh off of a trio of Red Sox pitchers to overcome a 3-1 ...

Comeback Sox Do It Again
2008-04-23 05:30:00
Trailing 5-1 in the 4th inning, the casual fan would think the Boston Red Sox would have no chance of coming back against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. What the casual fan doesn’t know is that this Red Sox team has been coming back in games all season. And tonight was no different as the ...

Torii Hunter homers to help Los Angeles Angels knock off the Minnesota Twin
2008-04-04 11:35:00
For Torii Hunter, it was the perfect finish to a difficult opening series. In the final game of an emotional return to the Metrodome, Hunter homered leading off the seventh inning to back a strong start from Ervin Santana and help the Los Angeles Angels beat the Minnesota Twins 5-4 on Thursday. MLB Predictions: American League
2008-03-31 05:01:00
East1. Boston Red Sox 2. New York Yankees3. Toronto Blue Jays4. Tampa Bay Devil Rays5. Baltimore OriolesThe Red Sox should be one of the top teams in the MLB. They still have a dominant line up with David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Mike Lowell, plus Jacoby Ellsbury will be a great leadoff man. The starting pitching rotation is solid with Josh Beckett and Jon Lester leading the way and the bullpen remains one of the best with Jon Papelbon and Hideki Okajima. The Yankees will obviously fight for the top of the division but their pitching staff isn't that strong. Also, watch out for the Blue Jays they may finally get into the playoffs if they stay healthy.Central1. Detroit Tigers2. Cleveland Indians3. Chicago White Sox4. Minnesota Twins5. Kansas City RoyalsThe Tigers have a very potent offense with Gary Sheffield, Magglio Ordonez, and Miguel Cabrera. They should have no problem putting up runs. The pitching staff is even better now with the addition of Dontrelle Willis. I don't know how m...

Catch Me If You Can: Los Angeles Angels, Seattle Mariners - American League
2008-03-19 10:22:00
Of all the divisional races in Major League Baseball, none is being written off as already over like the American League West where the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are seen as near-locks to make the playoffs. The Seattle Mariners beg to differ. In 2007, the Mariners managed to offer the Angels some ...
Game Thread--Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim vs Chicago Cubs-- 3:05 p.m. CT
2008-03-16 20:15:00
Pitching today for the Chicago Cubs is our ace, Carlos Zambrano. Carlos just saw himself on the Jumbotron Big Z has had a marvelous spring so far, letting up only 1 earned run in 9 IP.  He's also walked only one batter, while striking out eight.  For Big Z, that's quite an accomplishment.  Let's hope it translates into a good early start for Zambrano, because he had such a hard time getting going last year. The Angels play two slit-squad games today against the Cubs and Giants.  Jered Weaver will toss against the Giants.  Which means we (kinda) get the scrubs! At least the scrub pitchers.  On the mound for the The Angels Angels of Anaheim is Nick Green.  Green is not expected to make the major-league team. In 7IP, Green has let up 3 walks, 2 k's, and 3 Earned Runs. Nick Green is freakin' high and I don't think that I'll see him again, but we shared a moment that will last 'til the end What to Watch For Zambrano is going up against some ...
Holliday homers to help the Colorado Rockies beat the Los Angeles Angels 6-
2008-03-09 00:59:00

Previous Team Analyses: TB TOR BOS BAL NYY CHC HOU STL PIT CIN MILThe Angels are the powerhouse of the American League West, and although they didn't win the Miguel Cabrera Sweepstakes this offseason, they enter 2008 as the favorite to win the division title. I have a soft spot for Vladimir Guerrero, as Zach has already documented, so I'll be pulling for this lineup to provide him a little protection for once this year.Lineup:3B Chone FigginsLF Gary Matthews, Jr.RF Vladimir GuerreroCF Torii HunterDH Garrett Anderson1B Casey Kotchman2B Howie KendrickC Mike NapoliSS Erick AybarRotation:John LackeyKelvim EscobarJon GarlandJered WeaverJoe SaundersErvin SantanaCloser: Francisco Rodriguez Thoughts... Things you already know: K-Rod is one of the top closers in fantasy baseball. Odds & Ends Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Edition
2008-02-18 20:07:00
Once again, I am listening to XM Radio's MLB Homeplate.  Today it was Friday's edition of "Fantasy Focus", which is called "Down On The Farm Friday With John Sickels," and today's edition with Will Carroll.  Both shows touched on the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. On Friday, Jim Callis of Baseball America was the guest, and the topic of Brandon Wood arose.  Callis opined that Wood could be stagnating due to the lack of opportunity after proving himself deserving.  Given the Angels have been remiss is providing opportunities for its younger players, this does not surprise me. He also said Brandon Wood has the defensive ability to be a Gold Glove 3B or a decent major league SS.  After all this time, no one should expect manager Mike Scioscia to move his favorite Chone Figgins off third, but Erick Aybar and Macier Izturis do not possess any one skill that would prevent Wood from winning the job in March. * Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus offered a negati...
2007 Sabermetric Year in Review: Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
2008-02-10 06:08:00
A few weeks ago, I was driving through Anaheim. I was in town to do a job interview (true story… I could theoretically be living in L.A. in a few months), and I drove past Angel Stadium and Disney Land (about a mile apart). So, in a sense, when I say that this is stop ...
Los Angeles Angels and Dodgers News
2007-12-06 12:56:00
After watching the Tigers acquire Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis for a six-player package of prospects, Mike Di Giovanna provides the sticking point on the much-discussed Miguel Cabrera failed trade discussions.   He writes the framework of the deal was 2B Howie Kendrick, C Jeff Mathis and AA SP Nick Adenhart with the disagreement over the Marlins wanting Ervin Santana to be the 4th player while the Angels wanted the 4th to be Reggie Willits.  To me, the inclusion of either player shouldn't have been problematic.  Ervin Santana inexplicably stunk last season, and Willits is a 5th OF following the Torri Hunter signing. Regardless, I'm not convinced what the Tigers gave is better than what the Angles wanted to give - Kendrick, Mathis, Adenhart and Willits.  And the Fish would still have Willis as a trading chip! Dylan Hernandez writes the signing of CF Andruw jones to a two-year/$36.3MM contract frees-up the team to deal either Andre Ethier or Matt Kemp for ...
No deal yet, but Los Angeles Angels introduce Torii Hunter (AP)

Hunter was introduced Wednesday along with Jon Garland, acquired in a trade with the Chicago White Sox. Hunter, a seven-time Gold Glove center fielder, reached a preliminary agreement Nov. 21 on a $90 million, five-year contract but has ...

2007-11-22 10:28:00
Vladimir Guerrero finally will have some protection in the batting order. The Los Angeles Angels, who have been trying to land another strong hitter for several years, agreed to a five-year, $90 million deal Wednesday with free agent Torii Hunter, who hit .297 with 28 homers and drove in 107 runs for Minnesota this year. CF Torii Hunter and Los Angeles Angels reach preliminary agreement on $90 m

Outfielder Torii Hunter and the Los Angeles Angels reached a preliminary agreement Wednesday night on a $90 million, five-year contract. The deal is subject to Hunter passing a physical. Hunter obviously was surprised the Angels were even interested in him. On Nov. 22, the Angels agreed to a $50 million, five-year deal with Gary Matthews ...

Yankees Quick Check: Taking It Day By Day
2007-05-24 23:10:00
A quick and un-scientific survey of the dwindling number of Yankees fans at my place of employment on Thursday revealed that hope is still alive in Yankees Land. "Day by day, that's the only way I can take them." Reported one of the longest tenured and most stalwart of the fans I surveyed. "They looked good last night," He continued "and they blew it the night before, and the kid Clippard did great against the Mets. Let's see how they do against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim this Friday. coming up." He said the "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim" for dramatic effect. It was like saying "General George Patton," instead of merely "Patton." Tyler Clippard takes the mound again against the younger, more competant of the Weaver brothers for the Angels. The Yankees have a good chance in that game as no one named Mike, Moose, or Mussina will be pitching for them. Such was the general consensus as I made my rounds, polling my co-workers. Apparently a memo went out to all Yankee fans anno...
BAPR Plus: Los Angeles Angels
2007-03-24 21:48:00
We wrap up are BAPR Plus look at the AL West with a look at the Los Angeles Angeles. The Angels have a slew of recent prospects in the lineup, led by Howie Kendrick, Jered Weaver, Joe Saunders, Mike Napoli and Kendry Morales, but there still are some talented prospects left to try to crack the Angels’ lineup. Who’s Hot: Chone Figgins broken hand opens up a spot in the infield for the next month of the season. Logically that would seem to help Brandon Wood’s chances of making the team, but manager Mike Scioscia has announced that Wood needs more time at third base in the minors, so the team will use Macier Izuturis and Robb Quinlan for the next month. Wood has been relatively solid at the plate this spring, hitting .298/.298/.458 with two home runs and only five strikeouts in 24 at-bats. Matt Brown is not nearly the prospect Wood is, but he also briefly worked himself into the emergency third base discussion with a .353/.400/.882 spring that includes three home runs...
