Its a whopping 4 disc journey of story, cinematics and gameplay; a long cry from the original days of 20 x 20 pixel characters walking around on your super famicon! You assume the identity of Kaim, an immortal who has lost all of his memories of who he was and blindly fights as a mercenary for one of the many kingdoms of the world. Release date set for February 12thWe’ve covered Lost Odyssey quite a bit, in both video and text form, with our own Lost Odyssey preview and lots of other info on the game, which looks so totally awesome that it’s definitely one title I’m going to pick up for sure. The game is headed up by Mist Walker studios (the company that developed Blue Dragon, another RPG for the 360) and is being developed by Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy with an all-star cast of other people helping out with development. We've reported before that a significant portion of the game is taken up by flashbacks. The twist is that these flashbacks are actually written short stories for the player to read (if desired). While Multiplayer reports that the game is more or less aimed squarely at Final Fantasy fans, the short stories are apparently an entertaining diversion. It's explained that one of the reasons these stories are so entertaining is that they are significantly different from things tried in other, similar Japanese RPGs. It's not uncommon for games to present unlockable content as an incentive for players to keep on playing, but we're pretty sure that short stories are a first.
