Notes From Bradenton
2009-03-27 13:40:00
Before I write about my trip to Pirates' Spring Training, Don of Mondesi's House deserves props for writing this last week:In a way, Fields has a bit of Ben Roethlisberger in him, in that he always seems to save his best for last. If ever I see Fields lining up a three-pointer with, say, three minutes or less, I'm going to say that's probably a high-percentage shot.Don proved prophetic as Levance did it again Thursday night in leading the Panthers over Xavier. Go Pitt!Anyway,I have talked about attending Spring Training for many years, but this week, I finally made it to Bradenton, Florida to see the Pittsburgh Pirates in action. Here are notes and pictures from my trip:I arrived at the Bradenton/Sarasota airport from Washington via Atlanta (and my favorite airport) and went directly to McKechnie Field in time to see the Pirates warm-up.This is Pirates super-prospect Andrew McCutchen (the guy with a bag on his shoulder) along with Pirate great Bill Virdon on the left.Ian Snell ...
Pirates Shopping Nate McLouth
2007-12-04 20:58:00
Apparently Neal Huntington thinks Nate McLouth is not the answer in center field, because he's been aggressively shopping the 26 year-old.  Ken Rosenthal says the Cubs, Padres, Phillies, and Braves are interested. Looking at my Nate McLouth archive, the Giants and Marlins have also been connected to him.  McLouth has a .249/.322/.429 line in 708 big league ABs, which isn't too bad for a center fielder.  Plus he did hit .284/.391/.538 over the season's final two months.  showad();

McLouth, Armas lead Pirates past Brewers 9-0 (AP)
2007-09-11 04:33:00
Tony Armas pitched six sharp innings a day after Milwaukee hit six home runs, and Nate McLouth’s two-run homer carried the Pittsburgh Pirates to another home-field victory over the Brewers, 9-0 on Monday night. Milwaukee’s loss, its fourth in five games in Pittsburgh this season, dropped the Brewers back into a first place tie in ...
Straight from the McLouth

Anyone else find it ironic that the Pirates had Franco Harris speak to the team before the game, only for the Bucs to go out and lose by a touchdown? Maybe he also shared the secrets of avoiding contact and running out of bounds like a girl.On to more serious topics, Jesus Christ we have some terrible pitchers.Exhibit A: Zach Dookie, the latest in a long line of Pirates pitchers to have arm trouble. He's initial assessment came back as just being a tender elbow. However he is scheduled to fly to Alabama to meet with the illustrious Dr. Andrews this week for a second opinion. I don't know about you but in my opinion when players go to see Dr. Andrews for a second opinion, they tend to come back needing Tommy John surgery or some other kind of invasive surgery. How much says Dookie boy has something more serious going on?John Van Benschoten is terrible. The guy can not locate a pitch to save his life. The problem is that you can't send him down because who are you going to b...
