His prolific masterpiece 69 Love Songs was one of the most talked about release of 1999.Just under a decade later, Chicago based singer/songwriter James Eric puts together this tribute to Merritt's masterwork.21 Love Songs as you can imagine, is a mixed bag. The album is the first since 2004's I which marked the band's first jaunt on to the Billboard charts.Distortion is less an album title and more a personal mission statement for the album. Merritt has always used the Magnetic Fields as an outlet to show his mastery of all genres. This album has the feel of somewhere in between The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Zombies. The album is glazed in a vintage fuzz with a lush pop feel.Stephen Merritt and Claudia Gonson seem to switch off lead vocal duty song to song. Stephen's songs for the most part are right on point with previous Magnetic Fields' efforts. Claudia Gonson on the other hand, I can barely stand any song she sings lead vocals on. El ttulo deja muy a las claras lo que encierra el trabajo: noise y ruidismo de libro. Una mezcla entre un "Brian Wilson" melanclico y en hora bajas y "My Bloody Valentine". Como todo este tipo de trabajos creo que necesita ms de una concienzuda escucha antes de ser juzgado.
