Audio: Some apples from the 'teacher'
2009-09-23 14:49:00 We've dug up some more audible nuggets from Stand For Marriage Maine's latest video star, Charla Bansley, which even more fully detail how ridiculous it is for the "Yes" campaign to to refer to Ms. Bansley as a mere "teacher."...

2009-09-23 04:38:00 The new "yes on 1" ad is up. Or actually, we should say the reworked "yes on 1" ad, as it's nothing more than a repurposed version of an old Prop 8 spot: The same old lies and fears and...

On the Bubble: John Maine
2009-09-16 02:50:00 Ok, this is the last installment of the "On the bubble" for the pitching staff, the rest of the staff is either locks or are inconsequential to next year's staff.A quick recap:The rotational locks are Johan Santana, Oliver Perez ( due to his contract), Mike Pelfrey and I'll address John Maine in this post. The pen: Franscico Rodriguez, Pedro Feliciano, Brian Stokes, Pat Misch, Nelson Figueroa, Bobby Parnell and Sean Green ( trade bait). The idea of non-tendering John Maine just doesn't make sense to me, a 28 y/o hard throwing right hander who you can control for the next two years and has had recent success in the NY market isn't someone you just give away.Even as an injury risk, Maine only made 2.6MM and will only make 15 starts this year, so how much could he be awarded this off-season. Relatively speaking what Maine will cost for a possible 15 win pitcher is cheap compared to what one will cost on the open market. But I still think Maine is pitching out of position, Maine has al...

Maine Gay Marriage ad: ?Fluffy,? but Step in Right Direction
2009-08-22 20:40:00 “EqualityMaine” has released its first ad in the campaign to veto the people’s veto of the bill passed by the elected legislature and signed by the elected Governor to recognize same-sex marriages in the Pine Tree State. How to Make the Case for Gay Marriage in Maine
2009-08-14 08:18:00 I highly doubt the leaders of Maine Freedom (sic) to Marry will solicit my advice (or that of any other gay conservative for that matter) on how to oppose the “people’s veto” slated for the Pine Tree State’s ballot this fall. Conservatives Can Help Veto People?s Veto of Maine Gay Marriage
2009-08-12 22:40:00 When I read that citizens in Maine were seeking to gather signatures to overturn the legislation passed by the elected representatives of the people of the Pine Tree State to recognize same-sex marriage, I hoped they would not gather the 55,087 signatures needed to place a “people’s veto” on the state ballot. Maine: Add Another to the ranks of trying for Marriage Equality
2009-04-30 19:39:00 Maine has leaped forward in the fight for equality. Their version of the bill has made it past the Senate in Maine, and should have little problems in the House. The Governor, as they seem prone to do, is non-committal on what he will do if the bill comes before him for his signature.A similar situation is happening in New Hampshire, which came this far through the process yesterday. As they say, "As Iowa goes, so goes the nation."I personally would like the to hurry up already. This surge in civil rights needs to catch like a wildfire in the Santa Anna area. If the momentum picks up then perhaps the Obama Administration will make this a higher priority, and then we can get married by or ON(!) our 20th Anniversary. How cool would that be?!So, that gives the Federal Government 3 years to get with the program. That should be more than enough time.Congrats Mainiacs! On a side, and additionally encouraging in Maine, they tried to make this a ballot issue and that was rejected. You ...

World Ocean Day See My Sea Glass
2008-06-08 15:00:00 Today, June 8, 2008, is World Ocean Day! To celebrate, La Mer will donate $100,000 to Oceana in honor of La Mer founder, Dr. Max Huber. Dr. Huber grew to love and appreciate the beauty and fragile ecosystem of the ocean while researching ingredients for the living legend, Creme de la Mer. Living on the coast of Maine, the beach is a daily part of our lives, weather permitting of course! Beach combing is our favorite activity. Throwing glass in the ocean is polluting but I can’t help but stop in my tracks when I see a tumbled, perfectly rubbed smooth piece of pitted of sea glass. The power of the ocean is awesome. I’d like to share some picks of my recent ocean finds in appreciation of World Ocean Day. , Post from: Steeping Beauty World Ocean Day See My Sea Glass Share This Tags: beach combing, day, glass, hobby, La, La Mer, LaMer, Maine, Mer, ocean, Oceana, Oceana.org, sea, sea glass, world, world ocean day

Sunday River nabs World Cup snowboarding event!
2008-06-04 03:58:00 In 2001, Jeremy Bloom and Johnny Moseley dueled on the bumps of White Heat in an F.I.S. World Cup Freestyle Mogul stop at Sunday River, Maine. While the event was a huge success and brought the spotlight to Sunday River, it's been 7 long years since a World Cup event of any sort has beckoned. Meanwhile, Sugarloaf, Maine has hosted two U.S. Alpine Championships. Sunday River has been fortunate to remain on the radar of the USSA by hosting a few snowboard Grand Prixs, but the World Cup is a whole different level and with the event straddling February and March of 2009, the names competing will be many of the same that will don their nations colors the following year in whistler for the Olympics.

From days gone by...
2008-05-21 03:02:00 With a brisk wind sweeping over the western ridge, I walked under the old Chair 7 Saturday morning, catching a last glimpse of the Borvig triple chair that some 25 years ago was considered high-tech. And while two others will still be in use next year at Sunday River, the new Doppelmayr hybrid will replace the triple and serve up a unique lift experience. I was admittedly a little sad looking up at the old painted brown chairs, but also look ahead to the excitement that will come next year. My hope is that the old triple will be sold and rebuilt on another mountain. Such practice is commonplace in the ski industry, especially with the price of new lifts and the few companies that still make them. And it was that same Saturday night that I cam across this old painting of Sunday River from 1972 ? a special piece even before Borvig made its? mark..
