The White House has hinted in the past week that in order for the bill ...
Still No Smoking Ban In Michigan
2007-12-16 06:07:00
A smoking ban bill that cleared the Michigan House earlier this week seems to have stalled in the Senate.  The bill would ban smoking in restaurants, bars, and other workplaces. The Democrats tried to send the bill to the Health Policy Committee, where the Republican chair, Dr. Tom George (R-Kalamazoo) supports the ban; instead, the bill was sent ...
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid hates America and freedom
2007-12-14 20:51:00
Hyperbolic? Perhaps. But that’s the only conclusion I could come to after reading this morning that Reid is planning an end-run around Chris Dodd’s threat to filibuster any FISA legislation that contains immunity for telecom companies that participated in the NSA spying program. Glenn Greenwald, as always, has all the nasty details. More from Lambert at Correntewire and Matt Stoller. It’s been a while since I’ve posted about this, so here’s a reminder of why preventing telecom immunity is important. And Chris Dodd’s campaign has tips on what you can do to support the filibuster. I used to support Harry Reid during the darkest days of GOP domination of Congress in the Bush era. He demonstrated gumption and courage when necessary. I don’t know what happened to that man, but this guy is no friend to progressives, the Constitution, or his own party. In one fell swoop, he is enabling the Republican party agenda of protection for corporate malfea...

President Bush And The Veep Publicly Spar With Senate Majority Leader Harry

“Politics as usual”? YEP. But that’s the way it’s SUPPOSED to work, versus the all-GOP fiasco we’ve had to endure over the six straight years preceding the Democrats’ lawfully attained majorities in both the Senate and Congress. Listen to either side and you’ll hear all about how the words coming out ...
Sen. Barack Obama Endorsement: Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle
2007-02-25 16:33:01
While this is older news, it was worth reporting in my blog so the information provided remains as comprehensive as possible.Earlier this week, Sen. Barack Obama received another large-scale presidential bid endorsement, this time by Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle.According to the Chicago Tribune article, Daschle was quoted commenting on Obama, ""great capacity to unify our country and inspire a new generation of young Americans, just as I was inspired by the Kennedys and Martin Luther King when I was young."Gaining yet another endorsement from high-ranking Democratic officials is just what the Obama campaign requires.  Though months away from the first primary and caucus, Sen. Obama will have to overcome the perception some skeptics have of Obama's political "inexperience."  With such ringing endorsements, others' testimonials will speak for themselves and assure American voters his "few" years as a career politician should be a non-factor.
John Murtha or Steny Hoyer for majority leader
2006-12-08 09:45:01
I'm going with Murtha for majority leader. I pick him just because of his strong stance on troop withdrawal . Nancy Pelosi, is endorsing John Murtha for the position. Murtha does have scandals in his background so he is probably not the best for the position, even though hes my pick. On Thursday, the House Democratic Caucus is scheduled to vote on who should be its new Majority Leader. The leading contenders are Murtha and Steny Hoyer of Maryland, the current minority whip.
