No Bayani Fernando Billboards In Makati City
2008-04-10 08:58:00
Latest update with Bayani Fernando?s mega billboards in EDSA. Apparently in Makati City, Mayor Jejomar Binay has ordered the dismantling of MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando?s billboard. I also received comments that BF?s billboards in Buendia as well in Pasay City are already dismantled. Mayors of the said cities are from the opposition. Does this mean ... Roxas To GMA: Truth Or Consequence; Makati Rally Today Only A Sign Of Count
2008-03-01 07:53:00
29 February 2008 Senator Mar Roxas warned President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo that her government's continued stonewalling of the truth and obstruction of justice will soon break the nation apart. The Liberal Party President said the Chief Executive should view today's Makati rally as a fair consequence of her administration's failure to come clean on the ZTE-National Broadband Network (NBN) controversy. "Ang hamon ngayon, Ginang Pangulo: ‘truth or consequence.' Huwag maging balakid sa katotohanan, kung hindi, patuloy na aapaw ang galit ng tao sa lansangan," he said. "In case you haven't noticed, Mrs. President, the people are angry. They are very, very angry. And if you continue to turn a blind eye to this and sing your chorus that everything's above board, then your so-called ‘Strong Republic' will just break apart into 86 million pieces," he added. The co-chairman of the Joint Senate Committees investigating the NBN deal said the President must act to "save the Republic"...
Jun Lozada in AIM/Big Makati Rally
2008-02-29 08:33:00
A quick post: Things are getting crazy here in the AIM Campus as it is in the middle of a big public protest action against the Arroyo Administration's corruption here in Makati City. But the reason why things are more unsettled here in campus is because senate star witness Rodolfo 'Jun' Lozada is here! Reporters, media folks and protesters are filling up the main lobby with cars struck in traffic jams all over the place. Outside is just loud with car horns, sirens and people with megaphones. Totally crazy... in a good patriotic way, of course.UPDATE:I decided to attend the big rally as an observer along with other MBA students, three of which were Indians. As we walked to the Ninoy Aquino monumebt Paseo De Roxas Avenue, I got to know more about the Indians' view of "rallies." They said they were apprehensive to go with us because in India, a rally connotes rioting-- more like mobs burning cars, breaking windows and looting. One of the Indian students jokingly said he was "disappo...
Makati Mice, Farewell (Vengeance Expressed in Poetry)
2008-01-28 03:20:00
I never thought catching mice can be so downright hard! It could be better if they do not struggle so much. Their pain pains me, moreso because I look at them different now after watching Ratatouille. I’ll share with you my mice killing experience through poetry: something I haven’t done in a long time. And by ... [ This is a content summary only. Visit PinoyBlogoSphere.com for full links, other content, and more! ]

A Taste of Switzerland in Makati
2008-01-02 14:23:00
A recent visit to a Swiss-themed fine dining restaurant in Makati, originally owned by a Swiss national. Not too much words but more storytelling using pictures as Tutubi has been awefully busy these past few days. A full-course meal that'll surely whet your appetite :Pthe bar of Old Swiss Innwaiters and servers don uniforms that remind you of Switzerland without the Alpine weathera generous amount of sausages served on "a silver platter" was served. Picture blurred due to Tutubi's hunger-triggered shaky handsthe deliciously good goulash, a spicy soup originally from Magyar country (Hungary)pepper steak, well-done. wonder why nobody seems to eat those bloody steaks here in the Philippines-- because they're rare!fish steak that Tutubi found too fishy for his taste.Nice presentation thoughDessert came with chocolate fondue that tasted like melted Toblerone chocolate served with fruits and marshmallows.Tutubi has no idea of the price but sure is pricey by his standards. The place is...
"Free" Wi-fi and Open Wireless Hotspots in Makati
2007-12-26 14:35:00
I made a quick check of our new office somewhere in Makati and found several open wi-fi from nearby buildings. Some hotspots offer encryption but maybe unaware of the dangers of minimal security offered by their "secured" wireless Internet.I got connected to an open connection in one conference room without doing anything but didn't proceed since that'd be unethical on my part not even fired up Netstumbler and other wireless security tools.Open wireless hotspots is a common occurrence in Manila (and the Philippines) where people think convenience without an ear for privacy and security. Wardriving will net far too many places for freeloaders. No law is present to deter freeloaders. The E-Commerce law doesn't contain a provision against it while the still pending cybercrime bill is in the doldrums if not plunged into the abyss of oblivion by good-for-nothing "lawmakers."Tags: Philippines, Free Wi-Fi Philippines,

Train of thoughts 3: Makati Standoff Edition!
2007-12-01 20:27:00
I am sure that by now, you all know what Trillanes and friends have done over the dawn of the long weekend. If you wanna know more, click here for the Inquirer.net's coverage of the Makati standoff. But for this post, I just wanna share my thoughts. It will not be an organized essay, because I do not know enough details in Philippine politics to rival the editorial opinion of the major broadsheet columnists in the country today.*Where was I when I learned of the standoff? It was already 3pm and I just boarded a bus on my way home to Pampanga. The bus TV was on and it screened the ABS-CBN coverage. I was actually surprised because Pampanga commuters like me know that Bataan Transit buses have always been Kapuso, haha!*My overall thought on the matter as I finished the pizza kariman I bought to serve as my on-the-go lunch: what the hell was Trillanes thinking?! Apparently, other people shared the same thought, so imagine my amusement when an article of the same title (well, sans 'the...
gulo sa makati
2007-11-30 01:42:00
me gulo nanaman kanina sa makati.. pangalawang beses na papansin talaga yang trillanes na yan.. sana nga binaril nalang sila.. me nabasa pa ako sa inquirer: We're going out for the sake of the safety of everybody, for your sake because we cannot live with our conscience if some of you get hurt or get killed in the crossfire, nagpapatawa ba sya? sino yung everybody nya? dapat hindi nalang sya lumabas at binaril nalang "sila" matutuwa pa siguro ako.. If there's a loser here it's the Filipino nation because she's [Arroyo] still there personal / political reasons.. gagawa nalang sya ng gimik palpak pa..nasan rally? sino magbabayad sa mga "nasira" nya.. Dumaan tayo sa tamang pamamaraan [We passed through the right processes]. Elected pero wala ring nangyari [We were elected but nothing happens]. They voted for me so that I can speak up for their rights and our advocacies, e syempre hindi naman sya political figure in the first place.. isa syang uto uto at wala namang alam sa batas We...

After the Trillanes standoff
2007-11-29 12:57:00
I am reserving further expression of my opinions on today’s standoff between Sen. Trillanes and around 30 renegade soldiers and gov’t. soldiers at Manila Peninsula Hotel in Makati. Trillanes, Lim and other oppositionists holed in Makati Peninsula

Makati Mutiny: Lim, Trillanes Holed Up in Manila Peninsula
2007-11-29 05:28:00
At around 11:30 this morning I received a call from a comrade asking about the situation in Makati particularly Paseo de Roxas, Ayala Avenue and Makati Ave due to reports on ANC about the walk-out of Trillanes during his hearing at the Makati RTC then led a march in Makati Central Business District.Sen. Trillanes, along with Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim and some Magdalo soldiers are currently holed up at Intercontinental Hotel where they reiterate their call for Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to step down.A picture of Ayala Avenue corner Makati avenue is shown below where the once busy intersection is now a virtual parking lot. Makati Shangri-la stands prominently on the right while The Peninsula Manila is on the left of the picture. The large green area is the so called Ayala Triangle.(sorry, i don't have both my cameras with me today, just a crappy camera phone I used here)As of this time, guests of Manila Peninsula were requested to leave. The area is peaceful but tension fills the air....

Ayala Land Unveils Nuvali: The New Makati of the Future
2007-11-05 04:05:00
In 1950’s – Ayala decided to make a landmark move and master-planned Makati . They sold Forbes Park at 7 Pesos / sqm , built institutions, entertainment and office spaces - now Makati is Considered the most prime real estate in the country, with Forbes Park as the most sought after luxury residential village.Smaller developments followed like Ayala Alabang, Cebu Business Park, and Laguna Sta Rosa Area ( all successful developments ). Now after 50 yrs, - Ayala Land is doing another major milestone in Philippine property history: a 1,600 hectare private flat property will be developed over the next 30 years to become the next NEW TOWN of the Philippines: NUVALI is the name that signals new beginnings. "Nova" Latin for birth of a star, and "Valley" a place for growth and abundance - where a fresh approach to balanced living emerges.Unlike Makati, Ayala Land will have a freehand to develop this whole town including its traffic system, water, utilities, telecommunications, police, tr...

Bombing not a diversion
2007-10-21 13:40:00
It’s now two days after the ruthless bombing of Glorietta mall last Friday which killed 11 and hurt more than a hundred others. But already, not a few people have expressed the opinion that the bombing was perpetrated by ...
Bloggers cover Makati mall blast
2007-10-20 08:57:00
By Joey AlarillaMANILA, Philippines--The Makati mall blast that rocked the financial district this afternoon and left at least eight dead as of this writing has also reverberated in the Philippine blogosphere, with some even posting photos of the blast site. One such blogger is "Disney Cute Land," who took photographs of the aftermath with his digital camera and posted them on Multiply.com. In a telephone conversation with this writer, he recounted what he posted on his entry -- it was ice cream that saved him from possibly becoming a victim of the blast. "I was in a state of shock. If I hadn't bought ice cream... I'm still shaken," Disney said, recounting that he had decided to buy ice cream while he was on his way back to the Park Square 2 walkway. Disney gave INQUIRER.net permission to publish the photos he took. Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist and INQUIRER.net blogger Manuel L. Quezon III also covered the blast on his Current blog. For more on the blog coverage of the Ma...
Makati Bombing Eyewitnesses Recount Ordeal
2007-10-19 21:07:00
October 19, 2007 - The blast, which occurred during lunch-hour, spread panic in the city of 12 million people, which has in the past been the scene of attacks by Muslim separatist rebels.Several shoppers said the blast was heard from a nearby baby store in the mall. Liana Navarro, sister of Black and White Movement’s Leah Navarro and who was in the mall with her mother, said several people including children were seen with "obvious injuries." Another witness, Arel Vertucio, said the explosion was so strong that it was felt up to the third level of the mall. Vertucio said he saw some people lying on the ground. Eyewitness Icy Marinas was only 15 meters away from the Glorietta explosion when it occurred. She said the blast felt like an "intense earthquake."She said she saw a pregnant woman crying after the blast while other women started rushing out of the mall with their families. She added that she saw "three bloodied men" near the blast site while the security guards just stood a...

Bomb in Makati Mall Kills 8 in Philippines: Abu Sayyaf Likely Suspects
2007-10-19 16:27:00
A bomb ripped through a large shopping mall, in the middle of Makati, the financial district of the Philippines, at around 1PM Friday, local time. Glorietta 2 is jam-packed most of the day. Eight people were killed and more than a hundred were wounded. Police investigators are beginning their forensic testing, but already have announced that the bomb was “caused by a ‘hard explosive,’ mostly likely TNT or C4.” The Philippine Daily Inquirer has reported that the “explosion...(read more)
the makati city bomb blast at glorietta 2
2007-10-19 16:26:00
Today's another very tragic day for the Philippines due to the Glorietta 2 bombing incident. At about 1:30PM this afternoon, an explosive blast ripped through the ground floor of Glorietta 2, one of the country's busiest and most heavily populated shopping malls, located at the heart of the Makati City central business and shopping district. The Makati bombing claimed the lives of at least 9 people and injured hundreds more when its shock waves caused a violent chain reaction of collapsing building structures (ceilings, floors, walls and roof), menacing shards of projectile-like glass and metal shrapnels, falling debris and paranoia-induced human stampede. The blast was initially thought of as an LPG tank that exploded inside Luk Yuen, one of the restaurants located at ground zero. Investigators soon ruled out the exploding LPG tank theory and found evidence that the cause was far more sinister than initially expected, it was a terrorist bomb attack using C-4 plastic explosives.Mos...
