A North-South Chinese Mix Cline in SE Asia?
2008-07-11 16:24:00
The latest death toll figures from Hurricane Katrina can be seen on this website here. The famous Russian neo-Nazi video is on this blog here. Updated July 12. I am republishing this post published earlier this month because I added some photos.A question from the comments about the Are SE Asians Australoids? article:Aren't Khmer a little more Australoid than people in Vietnam (at least Northern Vietnamese), most Thai, and Laotians? There seems to be a clear cline in Southeast Asia, the areas bordering China seem to have more NE Mongoloid Admixture than those of the Malay archipelago and the Khmer. I'm basing this on appearance and not genes, which you pointed out, rightly so, as being misleading. This question keeps popping up because so many folks are convinced, based primarily on appearance, that many SE Asians are part-Australoid.First of all, the Vietnamese, Filipinos, Thai and Khmer are all quite close to the Southern Chinese genetically. Of these, believe it or not, the Fili...

There’s a healthy development in the government job sector where more and more non-Malays are showing their interest to serve in the public sector. However, whether this will translate into more non-Malays occupying positions in the government and the public service is yet to be seen. Chinamen gearing up for the Olympics but Muslims and Malays are?
2008-04-22 04:00:00
Fellow Muslim & Malay Brothers and Sisters, let?s take a look at Chinamen today. They have sent fellow Chinamen to space in their own Chinamen-made rockets. Mind you, they made their own rockets! They didn?t piggy ride some old Russian junk spaceships like what Malaysia has done recently. Now, Chinamen in motherland China are gearing up for the Olympics, the biggest sports event in the whole wide world!I?m sure that Chinamen no matter where they are in the world at the moment are mighty proud of their accomplishments but let me ask you Muslims and Malays out there, where the hell are we today?Let me guess, we are still fighting like idiots over stupid matters with each other!Anwar Ibrahim, Mahathir, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Najib; you people are wasting our precious time. Open your bloody eyes and stop behaving like some kind of warlords!Ibn 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with them, reported:The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: Envy is not justified except in two c...
Islam is under attack but Muslims & Malays are still fighting among themsel
2008-04-10 04:00:00
Muslim and Malay Brothers & Sisters, some of you may have seen the following video featuring a report that gave bad pictures about Islam here in Malaysia. For the sake of all Muslims, I?m going to feature it here on this blog to remind everybody that Islam is under attack at this very moment.I foresee that we would have more attacks on Islam here in Malaysia in the next 50 years and Muslims out there should be more cautious and remain extra vigilant especially after the recent 2008 Malaysian General Election. They know that Muslims and Malays are now in a state of confusion and chaos and they feel that this is the best time to hit us Muslims with everything they got in and outside the country.Once again I call upon all Muslims and Malays in Malaysia to stop fighting with each other. We have to unite fast. I know this blog of mine has been visited by PAS, PKR and UMNO members; perhaps you are one of them today. Now, please let your leaders know and make them see the bigger picture! T...

2008-04-01 10:00:00
The world outside Malaysia is having critical problems but the Malays here don?t seem to care. Muslims and Malays continue to bang each other because of their stupid political ideologies and agendas. What can I say? These silly Malay infightings must end fast. The Malays must find peace and unity somehow in the next few months before we lose control of everything that is precious to all Malaysians.Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported:Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: (When) the time draws close to the Last Hour, knowledge will be snatched away, turmoil will be rampant, miserliness will be put (in the hearts of the people) and Al-Harj will be widespread. They said: What is Al-Harj? Malaysian police break up price hike protest
2008-01-26 13:36:00
KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Malaysian police broke up an opposition protest against rising prices on Saturday, arresting more than four dozen people in the latest in a series of rallies that have intensified amid speculation of an early election. Police had expected at least 5,000 demonstrators to gather near the Petronas twin towers in the capital for the rally, organised by Coalition Against Inflation, but only several hundred turned up. Among those detained were organisers of the rally. "I have also being arrested. There are 54 of us here waiting for next police action," Hatta Ramli, who is also treasurer of Islamic opposition Parti Islam se-Malaysia (PAS), told Reuters by telephone from the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters. The spate of protests in this normally peaceful country comes at a delicate time for Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's government, which has seen its popularity fall ahead of snap polls expected in the coming weeks. Malaysia PM sees growth above 6 pct, eyes poll
2008-01-26 13:10:00
By Ben Hirschler DAVOS, Switzerland (Reuters) - Malaysia's economy will grow by at least 6 percent in 2008, despite the worsening economic outlook in the United States, Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said on Friday. Abdullah also told Reuters at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum that he was still considering whether to call a snap election. Many analysts expect him to call a poll by the end of March this year, rather than serve his full term. Abdullah, whose mandate runs until May 2009, said an election would in any case take place before the end of this year. The economy one is of the few bright spots for Abdullah's government, which has been battling allegations of racial and religious discrimination against the country's minorities and corruption in the civil service. There have been recent concerns that U.S. economic weakness might push Malaysia's official 2008 GDP growth forecast of 6.0 to 6.5 percent out of reach. But Abdullah denied this was the c...

Malaysia to stockpile food, possibly fuel - papers
2008-01-24 09:16:00
KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Malaysia plans to set up a national food stockpile to safeguard the country against rising prices and possible shortages, local newspapers said on Thursday. The plan, outlined to local media on Wednesday, could also see the establishment of a petroleum reserve, even though Malaysia was a net energy exporter, the newspapers added. "It is possible," economist Kamal Salih, who is advising the government on the new measures, was quoted as saying in the New Straits Times. "Advanced countries are already stockpiling petrol, but not us as we are currently a net exporter of oil. However, we will discuss this." On food, Malaysia is looking to stockpile essentials such as rice and cooking oil, the dailies said. "The main focus is to ensure the supply and prices of essential items are stable," Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak was quoted as saying. "We can't promise to reduce prices, but what's important is to keep them stab...

Why we need to be rich in Malaysia (Chapter two)

Transportation in this lovely country has been the greatest headache for me. It?ll be easier for you to see in figure:1. Every day I travel 30KM to office which is located at USJ, - RM5.002. I?ll pass through 1 plaza toll, - RM1.603. At the end of the day, I travel 50KM to KL to fetch my gf and back to home, - RM8.504. Along the way, I?ll pass through 6 tolls, - RM9.30Let?s assume there are 22 working days within a month; from the above, I need to spend RM24.40 X 22 = RM536.80.5. Monthly maintenance of the car, - RM70.006. Monthly car loan payment, - RM400.00Exclude all my weekend activities (drive to Setapak to play basketball, drive around Klang Valley searching for house, drive to shopping mall, and etc), I need to spend RM1,006.80 in transportation. It has already occupied 50% of my monthly income. How many of you spend more than me in transportation? There should be some, at least. Some foreign readers might be amazed by so many plaza tolls. Malaysian Hindu festival marred by race dispute
2008-01-23 12:21:00
By Clarence Fernandez KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Malaysia's disgruntled ethnic Indian community marked one of southeast Asia's biggest Hindu festivals in muted fashion on Wednesday, with members divided over a national racial discrimination row. The Thaipusam festival is normally a boisterous, crowded affair, but attendance this year was markedly down at the main venue, the Batu Caves temple complex atop a steep hill on the edge of the capital. Members of the Hindu community are divided over the temple management's behaviour last year during violent protests involving thousands of ethnic Indians demonstrating against racial discrimination. As expectations grow that the government will call early elections by March, the protests and temple row have the potential to divide Indian voters, who, despite making up just 7 percent of Malaysia's 26 million population, can sometimes influence marginal constituencies or policy. Rowdy protests by more than 10,000 members of the community...

"It looks like me", says lawyer in Malaysian probe
2008-01-21 12:33:00
KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - A Malaysian lawyer at the centre of an inquiry into a scandal over judicial appointments said on Monday he looked like the man in the video that sparked the probe but denied he had spoken to a top judge over the phone. "My answer is it looks like me, it sounds like me," Kanagalingam Vellupillai, also known as VK Lingam, told a royal commission of inquiry into the scandal, which has reopened debate about the independence of the country's judiciary. "You can ask me a hundred times, my answer will still be the same," the 57-year-old lawyer told an inquiry officer. Lingam was giving evidence in relation to a phone conversation allegedly between him and the country's then third-ranking judge, Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim, in December 2001. The lawyer, unwittingly filmed speaking on his mobile phone, boasts of his ability to influence appointments and of his connections with the then premier, Mahathir Mohamad. Asked whom he was ...

Malaysia’s Home Ministry will set up a special committee to handle the plight of 40,000 Indian children in the country who don’t have a birth certificate.     Chief Minister of the Selangor in Malaysia, Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo, said that the decision to set up the committee was made after he highlighted the matter to Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi during the Umno Supreme Council last week.    He said many Indian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) had approached him to raise the plight of the children.     “These children are unable to attend school, register for programmes or get jobs as adults,” Dr Khir said.    “The Prime Minister was shocked when I informed him and immediately asked for a special committee to be formed under the Home Ministry,” he said during an Indian cultural show organised by the Barisan Nasional Volunteers Association in Shah Alam on Saturday.    Dr Khir...
