Online Malls to Sell Your Toys
2008-06-04 14:56:00
Selling the collection individually can also pay off if you have rare pieces that are sought after by collectors. The downside: it takes more time and effort than one realizes. You've changed your focus, run out of space, tired of dusting or just need the money. Whatever the reason, it's time to lose the collection. But how?If you're not in a hurry selling items individually will usually bring higher prices than if selling the entire collection as a group, which is also more difficult.Online MallsGetting the best price depends on the venue chosen, e.g. don't sell autographs on a site that is heavy into antiques or vice-versa. Do some research and find out where your type of collectors are hanging out and where they are buying. It can be a bit of work loading your descriptions, pictures and general set-up. But you get to set your own prices and although someone might ask for a better deal, you still decide the final price. Fees can vary widely.Selling in One Swoop - Auction Houses...

REVIVING DEAD STRIP CENTERS, MALLS & DOWNTOWNS
2008-04-07 06:37:00
Dead Shopping Centers & Strip Malls Can Be Revived. Many investors and developers fell into developing various configurations of strip malls, beginning forty years ago. Rather than retain experts in retail center design, leasing and management, they assumed there were no particular tricks to any of it. Prospective tenants didn't know much better, so leasing went smoothly and that further validated for all involved in the development and leasing that they were right - there was no need for experts. Then the centers' retail sales began to fall, tenants moved out, sales failed further. Well cities are full of these failed centers. Some have a handful of marginal tenants; others have no tenants at all and are for all practical purposes, boarded up. Dallas and the surrounding area are full of them. Unless the neighborhood demographics and the drive by traffic have changed dramatically, almost all of those centers could be redesig...

Asian Environmental Issues Exhibition at SM The Block
2008-02-21 01:21:00
The Japan Foundation Manila's 10th Asian Cartoon Exhibition is currently on display at the activity center of SM North EDSA's The Block. The exhibition's theme is Asian Environmental Issues. Drawings and sketches created by Asian cartoonists focus on environmental issues, but given that they are cartoons, the issues are portrayed with a touch of humor. It is a little ironic that the Japan Foundation is sponsoring this, because the Japanese government has plans to dump its country's toxic wastes in our country through the JPEPA deal. But...that's another story.Representing the Philippines is Elizabeth T. Chionglo, creator of the comic strip Love Knots, which can be read in the Philippine Daily Inquirer from Mondays to Saturdays. Environmentally-related works from Love Knots and her other comic Bobita are displayed. I read the Love Knots series in the Inquirer everyday. It always focuses and sheds humor on major current events such as the Peninsula Siege and the ZTE Scandal. I'm...

The 250,000 square foot building will hold approximately 100 vendors. Asides from retailers, there will also be an organic cafe and restaurant, sustainable furniture store, service providers and designers.

Asking rents at Singapore specialist malls rise by up to 30%
2007-12-16 23:39:00
Asking rents at Singapore specialist malls rise by up to 30%  Some retailers pay willingly for locale’s reputation, others prefer mix of shops By Chua Hian Hou  SPECIFIC THEME: United Square (above) is known as the mall to go to for children?s products, while Sim Lim Square (below) is known for computer parts. — ALPHONSUS CHERN   RETAILERS in specialist malls such as Sim Lim Square, Queensway Shopping Centre and United Square have not escaped the tide of rising rentals seen at other malls here. Some tenants have reported demands for rent hikes of up to 30 per cent when the time came to renew their shop leases. For some, it makes sense to pay the higher rent and stay put and enjoy the advantages of being in a specialist-themed mall. Others say that more variety in the tenant mix might draw even more shoppers. A check with tenants at the three malls - well-known for electronic products, sporting goods and children’s products respectively - found that rentals went ...

OK, we all know what happened at the Mall in Omaha, NE on Wednesday. Yes, it is tragic. Yes, my heart goes out to the families of the victims and the nut-job. Yes, it is a sick, sick world we live in these days. I'm sure there was something that could be done to prevent this from happening again.Malachy Kavanaugh, spokesman for the International Council of Shopping Centers:The International Council of Shopping Centers has conducted focus groups with shoppers to test how they would react to even tighter "airport style" security measures, including bag checks and magnetometers.According to Kavanaugh, the results have shown that shoppers would accept the measures only if the national threat advisory system was raised to its highest level, red. Such extreme measures are "in the mall industry playbook ... but it is something no one wants to do," said Kavanaugh.Oh yes, let's do that! Let's take something that we all do from time to time and turn it into an even bigger hassle than it al...
