The Moriori and the Dangers of Pacifism
2008-11-27 11:10:00 Updated November 28:The saga of Moriori is instructive. The Maori have long been known as ferocious headhunters and cannibals who had one of the cruelest and evillest cultures on Earth. The Moiriori seem to be a Maori split dating back to about 1500 or so. They left New Zealand and colonized the Chatham Islands. The Chatham Islands are small, very cold and isolated, and there is not a lot of food other than from the sea.Moiriori legend has it that initially, widespread tribal warfare, headhunting and cannibalism was practiced as the normative cruel Maori culture. On such a small island, this savagery was disastrous, and soon the population plummeted to near extinction. A leader arose among the Moiriori, Nunuku-whenua, who preached a new doctrine of extreme pacifism, Nunuku's Law. Nunuku's Law was strictly adhered to 300 years.Fighting was allowed between males, but it had to be conducted with each armed with a stick the width of a finger. At the first sign of blood, the duel was ca...

Maori activist/artist Tame Iti addresses ?terrorism? through art
2008-05-20 16:27:00 Aboriginal activist and Tuhoe traditional leader Tame Iti has re-entered the art world. Facing arms-related charges from a raid last October by New Zealand authorities that saw the arrest of some 16 people (including 2 artists apparently arrested for knowing Iti), Iti has re-issued a hip-hop song ?Terra-ism? on a CD of songs produced in conjunction with a four-part panel of paintings produced by New Zealand artists Mike West and Otis Frizzel. The hip hop-style song describes state action against indigenous people as terrorism -- certainly not a new idea for anyone familiar with the history of AIM (American Indian Movement) and their fight against colonialism in North America or the writings of Ward Churchill. But when indigenous people accuse states of terrorism, it always seems to cause outrage, especially among those who want to monopolize the idea of terrorism in politically strategic ways. In a direct reference to 9/11, the paintings depict, among other things, aircraft f...

The block of wood should not dictate to the carver - Maori proverb
2008-03-31 13:49:00 There are some great things made out of wood these days.Check out a child's bike at Likeabike. 2 year old's do not have a sense of balance yet nor enough reflexes, hence this bike has neither pedals nor brakes. This bike helps them to pass onto a bigger bike (without side wheels) in no time.Need a USB stick? Want to be original? Why not use one made of wood? Check out the wooden sticks sticking out of the computer and other wooden things at BientotDemain. Keep the salad natural. At Homology you can buy a lovely salad bowl made out of bamboo.Like to work in the garden? Looking for a garden shed? How about a designer one from Nils Holger Moormann who created Walden: a disproportionate matchbox where one can store garden tools, sit comfortably to drink a beer or light a campfire.

Is the "White" IQ So Superior?
2008-03-30 10:12:00 Updated March 31:I confess that I love to beat up White nationalists, or for that matter ethnic nationalists of any sort (this is why I verbally eviscerate Zionists - they are nothing but the Jewish equivalent of White Nationalists). There is nothing like nationalism, not to mention the super brain-killer of ethnic nationalism, to turn a smart person's brain to useless mush. The problem is that beating up on WN's is cruel. It's like slapping a retarded person and ridiculing them in public. So I feel kind of guilty when I do it.For a look at what a nightmare the White Nationalist movement is, and what a racist horror it represents, check out the sanest, most moderate outlier of the movement, American Renaissance. I hang out there a lot, and post lots of comments, when they do not get deleted, which is 75% of the time.I post mostly on illegal aliens, which is all I care about race-wise, as I am utterly indifferent to the "Black problem", anti-immigration xenophobia, Islamophobia, an...

Aboriginal Activist Causing Stir in New Zealand ? Police Arresting Artists
2007-11-29 05:29:00 It seems just a phone call from this fellow is enough to get your flat ransacked by the police. At least two New Zealand artists have experienced state intimidation, confiscation of their property, and criminal charges for their association with Tuhoe and Maori activist Tame Iti. In a coordinated series of raids in October, Tame Iti and 16 others were arrested and detained by state agents. Ite has come to the attention of state authorities as a high-profile advocate for an independent Maori state. He gained notoriety for baring his butt at public officials at the Waitangi Tribunal, the official treaty resolution process in New Zealand, and for shot-gunning a New Zealand flag. Ite travels in many circles, counting among his acquaintances wealthy art patron Jenny Gibbs and millionaire car-dealer John Murphy, while also co-hosting a television program for emotionally distraught Maori boys on Maori TV, and running sessions for adults with drug and alcohol problems through the Tuhoe...

Churchill Cup: New Zealand Maori Pull Out Of Next Year's Tournament
2007-09-27 16:42:00 From American Rugby News: The International Rugby Board has confirmed that the New Zealand Maori will replace the Junior All Blacks in the 2008 IRB Pacific Nations Cup. The decision also means the Maori will not compete in the 2008 Barclays Churchill Cup. The move comes as a result of a review by the NZRU of the organization?s High Performance Strategy and will see the Maori compete alongside Fiji, Japan, Samoa and Tonga, as well as the Australia ?A? side.?The Junior All Blacks set the benchmark in the first two IRB Pacific Nations Cup tournaments, winning in 2006 and 2007,? said IRB head of rugby services Mark Egan. ?However, the IRB understands the NZRU?s decision to replace the Junior All Blacks with the New Zealand Maori and is delighted that a team with such a global reputation will be joining the tournament in 2008.? The New Zealand Maori participated in the Barclays Churchill Cup in 2004, 2006 and 2007. "The Maori have been a great asset to the ...

Polynesian Gangs in New Zealand
2007-09-23 09:45:00 Looking at this disgusting gangster video, I was trying to figure out the race of these New Zealand gangsters. Based on their fairly dark skin color, the US Black ghetto style, dress, speech their often-kinky hair, and even the name of their gang - Crips, I thought maybe I was dealing with a Black gang in New Zealand here. Some net references calling them "niggers" didn't help matters and initially sent me astray, but references to "sea-niggers" were more directive. But look at the video closely, and many of these gang members do not really look like members of the Black race. Besides, I never heard there were many Blacks in New Zealand anyway, although there are a few in Australia. After doing some research on the gang in the video, called Sex, Dope, Money, I figured out that they are Polynesians. Most Polynesians in New Zealand are Maoris (14% of the population), who are the indigenous people of New Zealand. The Maoris have only been there since the year 1100 or so. They are mixed M...

Green MP takes offence over Maori drug use suggestions
2006-12-02 15:37:08 (it appears neither commentators understand white priviledge. /Blair)Green MP Meteria Turei has taken offence over generalisations about Maori after an addiction expert said the group was more at risk of becoming drug addicts than others. NZPA reported this week National Addiction Centre director Professor Doug Sellman's study results which found Maori were twice as likely to have lifetime substance use disorders than other ethnic groups. In an interview on National Radio yesterday he speculated cultural reasons could have an effect. Differences he pointed to included singing and ability at sports which Ms Turei said was "deeply offensive". "Addiction is an enormously complex issue for everyone who suffers from it. Social and economic factors as well as the impact of colonialism and racism must be seriously considered in analysing this data." Ms Turei said a 2002 Christchurch School of Medicine report on arrests and convictions for cannabis related offences showed Maori had a highe... |
