2008-10-30 07:38:00 picture it: sydney, early weekend morning. i watch from the hotel room balcony as a steady stream of people make their way down oxford street to join the large throng that has already gathered in hyde park and surrounding areas.from where i'm standing, my eyes take in a sea of bodies. there must be tens of thousands of them down below. a kaleidoscope of individuals, some are costumed simply in feathers and wings while others are even more creatively decorated. a few brave souls are clad in nothing more than body paint. most, though, are dressed appropriately for the occasion. short running shorts, skin tight lycra and comfortable runners that have seen their fair share of kilometres of pavement.but this isn't mardi gras. it isn't even a gay and lesbian event. it is, however, another popular sydney gathering known world over. it's the city2surf fun run.it's unusual to see the areas surrounding oxford street barricaded and not catch glimpses of the fantastically flamboyant floats...

Interpol, Mardi Gras, tennis and more

Here are a few updates:Last week, I went to see Interpol at the Hordern Pavillion with a group of former coworkers from Leo Burnett. I think this was my 7th time seeing them and once again, they did not disappoint. It was my first time at Hordern which is a medium size concert hall on the grounds of Fox Studios. The complex also has real movie studios (Matrix, Mission Impossible 2), cinemas, a shopping mall, and offices. The sound of the show was pretty crap but things improved once we moved back. Thumbs up for Interpol. Next I have two nights with Sinead O?Connor and a Smashing Pumpkins show at the end of March.I have been playing lots of tennis with some rather varied results. My partner Glenn and I signed up for another Thursday night comp and we easily won our first match against one of our big rivals. Glenn and a sub won our second match pretty easily too (I was across the street at the Interpol show). That is the good.We also...

I decided to kick off the premier Fight the Frump week by updating on the Mardi Gras ball that I set out to lose 20lbs for and get back into that 2 sizes too small ball gown. While I didn’t lose 20lbs, I did manage to lose a little bit, and between that and a hell of a lot of spandex, I did indeed get back into the dress. Barely. And it took a safety pin to make sure the zipper didn’t pop open. As Tim Gunn would say, “Make it work!”, and I did. I was a little self-conscious about how tight the gown was, right until I got there.
