Marion Jones Reports To Jail!
2008-03-08 04:06:00
This is truly sad. A few years ago I was really routing for Marion Jones, She was the track star which seemed untouchable. She won so many Gold Medals at the Olympic games but had them stripped from her when she came clean about using performance enhancing drugs after years of denying doing so. Now Marion Jones is reporting to Prison for lying to Federal Officials. I know what she did has no excuse but it just seems sad that I once idolized her for her strenght and tenacity, and now she is falling so hard. Jones has returned all five medals she won in the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney. In January, a federal judge in White Plains, N.Y., sentenced Jones to six months in prison and two years' probation (during which she will be required to perform 800 hours of community service) for lying to federal investigators about her steroid use and a check-fraud scheme.

Marion Jones Sentenced To Jail
2008-01-15 09:04:00
Olympic track star Marion Jones was sentenced in a federal court Friday to six months in prison, two years of probation and community service for lying to federal prosecutors investigating the use of performance-enhancing substances. Marion said through her attorney that she would like to start serving her sentence as soon as possible, and Judge Kenneth Karas set March 11 as the ?surrender date? unless a designated jail is able to accept her sooner.SHAMELESS HYPE OPINION:Does she deserve this? Unlike alot of athletes out there, Marion came clean and admitted her wrong-doings and they send her to prison, which was very harsh. The court system should have cut her some slack and gave her probation, especially considering that she has two small children to look after.

WHITE PLAINS, New York (Reuters) - Disgraced U.S. sprinter Marion Jones was sentenced to six months in prison on Friday for lying to federal prosecutors about her steroid use, a stunning downfall for the five-time Olympic medalist. U.S. District Court Judge Kenneth Karas imposed the sentence after Jones, 32, pleaded guilty to two charges last October, when she retired from athletics and tearfully confessed to betraying the trust of her fans after years of denying she used performance-enhancing drugs. "Your honor, I absolutely realize the gravity of these offenses and I am deeply sorry," Jones told the judge, crying as she begged not to be separated from her two young sons. "I pray that you be as merciful as a human being can be."

6 Months for Marion Jones
2008-01-12 02:15:00
Marion Jones will have a high price to pay after pleading guilty to lying to investigators about using performance-enhancing drugs and her role in a check-fraud scam. She was handed a 6 month sentence in prison despite her pleas to the judge for the shortest time away from her young children. The judge however was determined to send a message by sentencing her to the maximum allowed under her plea deal.I feel for her fall from grace, mainly because I think her apology was sincere, but it's a sad to see what we believed to be a triumphant story of women athletics crumble.Do you think this situation will hurt the sport of track and field? I think it does cast a shadow over the sport and the credibility of the athletes.

Disgraced Olympian: Marion Jones to be Sentenced
2008-01-11 17:49:00
laTimes.com: WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Disgraced Olympian Marion Jones is asking a federal judge to keep her out of prison, but the only real question may be how much time she gets. Jones, who apologized, retired and gave up her five Olympic medals after admitting she lied about steroids and a check-fraud scheme, was to be sentenced Friday by U.S. District Judge Kenneth Karas in White Plains. She was surrounded by reporters when she arrived at the courthouse. When asked how she was doing, she responded “OK.” Her lawyers have told the judge that Jones has been punished enough and should be sentenced only to probation, or perhaps be confined to her home. Prosecutors are not insisting on prison time either, saying any sentence between probation and six months would be fair. | read more | similar articles:Erased: All of Marion Jones’ 2000 Olympic Results AnnulledWikipedia Cleared in Defamation CaseFor a Guy in Control, Roger Clemens Makes Odd Choices

Marion Jones and Barry Bonds Scapegoats??
2007-11-23 21:38:00
We all know the stories, and the facts that have come to light. Yes, Marion Jones should have her medals stripped. I'm a bit on the fence about her having to return all the prize money, though, because she did show up and participate, and all those involved in her camp were paid from her winnings....hmmm, that's a slippery slope, that one. But, my real question is, who else is being investigated with such diligence? Is it ALL the athletes, or just a chosen few? Here we are in 2007 and they're STILL after these few folks like bloodhounds. Why only them?I also sense some type of unfairness in the whole Barry Bonds situation as well. Once again, I ask, WHO ELSE is being put through this same scrutiny to such a degree? Are the powers that be just pissed because he broke Hank Aaron's home run record? That he now goes in the history books? What about all the other "dirty" players? We know they're out there, suiting up every game as usual. Is it only the golden, chosen few...
