Cuban said Sunday by e-mail that when he walked off the court, a fan was screaming about the ...

Mark Cuban Claims Internet Is Dead
2008-03-31 13:21:00
Famed internet-made billionaire and blogger Mark Cuban raised quite a stir this week when he announced dramatically, "The Internet’s dead. It’s over." The comments made by Cuban at the CTAM summit will likely strike many as eerily familiar of Michael Bay's HD DVD trashing rants.Cuban became a billionaire when he sold Broadcast.com, originally Audionet, to Yahoo for $5.7B. Cuban built Broadcast.com into an online powerhouse after co-founding it with earnings from the sale of his company MicroSolutions in the 80s, an early reseller of Lotus Notes. Broadcast.com at its peak featured 420 radio stations and networks; 56 TV stations and cable networks; and live game coverage of over 450 college and professional teams. He used his wealth to buy the Dallas Mavericks and while a blogger himself, has recently taken a rather scornful attitude to the internet, which made him wealthy. He recently created a stir when he became the first team owner to ban bloggers from an NBA locker room.A...

"We are going to let him visit some gyms to talk to some folks about what it would take to learn. He knows it won't be easy. But he is getting involved with MMA and HDNet Fights one way or another. DALLAS -- He's done dancing on TV -- for now. Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is the latest celebrity not making the cut on the show "Dancing with the Stars," which airs in Canada on CTV. Cuban and his partner, Kym Johnson, last night learned they'd been voted off the popular dancing series. The dot-com billionaire earlier this year had hip-replacement surgery. "I'm competitive.  I just want to win," said Cuban. Cuban has said he lost at least 30 pounds during the weeks of intense dance training and the on-air competition. Source: www.ctv.ca

2007-10-24 15:38:00
brought by www.thequeerofallmedia.com It didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that billionaire Mark Cuban would not make it to the season five finals. The shocking discovery, however, is that Cuban admirably hoofed his way to the fifth week of competition before being eliminated on Tuesday night. He’s known for his temperamental displays towards NBA referees at Dallas Mavericks games, but Cuban was a humble sportsman when he learned his fate. Every week that he advanced in the competition, “I was playing with the house’s money,†Cuban joked to PEOPLE minutes after Tuesday’s live results show. “I had a great time. I made great friends. It was a great new experience. It was so different than any other opportunity — and ifanybody in the world has access to opportunities it’s me.†Cuban lost 34 pounds during his run on the show and gained terrific rehab for his left hip, which underwent replacement surgery over the summer. “It just shows you that mone...

Mark Cuban: Owning & Bleeding Cubbie Blue?
2007-10-11 05:56:00
Baseball might have a new member of the small fraternity of owners ? Mark CubanAlthough Cuban is widely known as being the larger-than-life, loud and opinionate owner of the Dallas Mavericks of the NBA, he wants to bleed Cubbie Blue and make his mark known in baseball. From the AP: ?Everybody thinks I'm going to be on the sidelines, in the dugout, jumping up and down. That's not where I'll be," he said on the Mike North Morning Show on radio station WSCR. "When I went to the Cubs game a couple weeks ago, I sat in the bleachers, and I'll have a seat marked out for me and my friends. We'll be out in the right-field bleachers -- that's the best place to watch a game." Tribune Co. announced six months ago that it would sell the club after the season in connection with an $8.2 billion buyout of the media conglomerate led by real estate magnate Sam Zell. But the process has moved slowly and many don't expect a sale to be completed until well into 2008. Cuban said he hasn't made a f...

Mark Cuban - Traitor
2007-09-05 22:45:00
Mark Cuban and his Dallas Mavericks can go to hell. It has become clear that it was Cuban who financed Brian De Palma's hit piece on our troops in Iraq (for those of you lefties who want to see this it's called Redacted). I have not seen the film so I can't overtly bash it. Apparently they are saying that all of the troops portrayed are paid actors and that none of the film was actually shot in Iraq.De Palma is a very skilled film maker (he made Scarface) so the movie will probably be very well done. And this is the problem. More lefty filmmakers and gazillionaires actively denigrating those that allow them to do what they do. I guess I will never get it. What is the last movie Hollywood made that portrayed troops in modern war as the liberators they are? Seriously, I cannot have conversations with these people anymore. The fact is, if they get their way, then our grandchildren will be slaves. I pray there are more of us than there are of them.Pat Dollard has more. . . Related Po...

Mark Cuban Says "Internet Is Boring" But Just Trying To Move The Speed Need

Mark Cuban's Wrong - Potential UFL Team Owner Says No Based On Zennie's Blo
2007-06-05 23:13:00
I just received a call from a friend of mine back east, who -- I can't use real names, corporate or otherwise, to protect the persons involved -- told me that a family member who works for a major comunications and media organization with significant monies in sports, happened to be talking about my blog post called "Why Bill Hambrecht and Mark Cuban's UFL - United Football League - Will Fail" while her bosses were overlooking the article on her computer. "Wow," one of them was reported to have said, "Maybe this guy ( referring to me) -- knows what he's talking about. After all he's made this XFL Simworld and had the Oakland (Alameda County) Sports Commission. He must know something."Fully on the basis of my post, this organization that owns a large and famous arena decided to avoid making overtures to establish a UFL team.It proves that, unlike Mark Cuban in the case of the UFL (I don't know the man), there are people out there who listen to the voices of reasons and an...
Mark Cuban the owner of the Dallas Mavericks thinks new league is needed
2007-06-04 23:17:00
This story comes from the Worldwide Leader in Sports, ESPN.com. Dallas Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban along with others are contemplating the development of a new Football League. The United Football League (UFL) hopes to allure NFL Players Drafted lower than the 2nd Round to become the main flux of its competition put on the field of play for potential consumers. Cuban's reasoning for starting a Rival league to that of the NFL is simple in his opinion: "It's a pretty simple concept. We think there is more demand for pro football than supply." The only problem with this idea (and this quote pulls at my heart strings as I'm a recent Economics Graduate) is that "The Demand" is for more "Pro Football", in other words, fans want to see more of the same HIGH QUALITY product. Not watered down versions of it: the XFL, Arena League Football, and the Canadian Football League. Are you the fan going to want to watch the Lorenzo Bookers, the Quinn Pitcocks, and the Troy Smiths of the world bat...

Mark Cuban Says Advertisers Have Leverage In Pricing Ads For Video - Really
2007-06-04 07:54:00
In his latest blog post, Mark Cuban takes a look at the impact that Nielsen's release of commercial data has had on the discussion of how ads in videos should be priced. He says "So riddle me this. If the Internet is the ultimate DVR for video, will advertisers put comparable pricing parameters on internet video that they are trying to put on TV DVR commercial viewing ? If they do, and only pay for videos viewed within 3 days of the video being posted, won't that put a huge crimp in the internet video business ?"My basic reponse is that there's an apples and oranges comparison here. Videos are ran over and over again each day. Plus, because they're within an optimized webpage, they're looked up in a search engine. Thus, if the video concerns a Paris Hilton issue that is discussed on the TV news, the search for that will go up, and thus cause a new round of views for the applicable video. For the video meter to stop running in this case would be unfair and not negotiable fr...
Prof. Dan Rascher Responds To My "UFL Will Be A Failure" Post
2007-06-03 21:08:00
Dan Rascher, Professor of Economics at The University of San Francisco and my Sports Business Simulations business partner, weighs-in on the matter of my post on why Mark Cuban and Bill Hambrecht's UFL will fail: "The NFL will not put a team in LA until they are absolutely forced to, because there is no incentive to do so. NFL Fans in SoCal will watch football whether they have a team or not, so the ratings are identical (by far the primary source of football revenue), LA had a lower avg attendance than smaller towns with less entertainment competition, and the city is far too big of a carrot for the NFL to let it stop. From now until eternity, any team in football can get a brand new stadium, simply by threatening to move to LA. I expect a new stadium for each franchise every 30 years as everyone uses this chance to bilk their hometown."
Mark Cuban Responds To My "UFL Will Be A Failure" Post
2007-06-03 17:22:00
Mark Cuban , a key player in the proposed United Football League, responded to my blog post which states in detail why the UFL will fail. He writes "then again, there are people who read press reports and think they are an expert on someone else's businessplans...i like our preparation better.m" What's interesting is this comment falls right into my take that much of the push behind football league proposals like the UFL is ego. Think about it. Cuban referes to "our preparation" as if he's not willing to listen to outside voices of reason. That's a sure receipe for disaster. A good analysis must also take into account dissenting voices. Not true for Cuban and the UFL team, it seems. One has to admire -- to a degree -- the PT Barnum level of hubris, but it's also what blinds Mr. Cuban to the spectre of failure. Moreover, Mark doesn't have a UFL simulation, so he's flying blind!!But that aside, and while I hold and with a simulation that is the basis for my charge tha...
Why Bill Hambrecht and Mark Cuban's UFL - United Football League - Will Fai
2007-06-02 17:06:00
Well, all I can say is "here we go again." A group of rich guys with egos -- no women involved here -- think that because they have enough money to start a football league, it will automatically work. In the newest example, we have the to-be-called United Football League , or UFL. This is an idea started by San Francisco Bay Area investment banking maverick Bill Hambrick, who's firm WR Hambrick and Company I remember as Hambrick and Quist, and who employed a friend of mine from Skyline High School school, Marla Goldstein.Ok, enough of that. Hambrick managed to come up with this idea of the UFL and get Internet entrepreneur and Dallas Mavericks owner (funny, how the word mavericks comes up here more than once) to sign on as the first owner of a team. As I understand the UFL concept, they're going to establish cities in areas where the NFL does not have a team, and "compete" with the NFL for players that come out of college "lower than the second round." OK. Here's the founda...
