Martial Law Plan Not Revealed to Americans
2008-03-10 16:54:00 Yes, I would be the first to admit that some secrets must be kept from the general population for their own safety. Musharraf Used Bush's NSPD-51To Delcare Martial Law
2007-11-07 22:44:00 This past weekend, Pervez Musharraf, the president of Pakistan that took over the country in 1999 in a military coup and has since promised a return to democracy, declared martial law and took complete control of Pakistan’s government. Americans in the United States should be concerned about this development, not only because the Pakistani people are suffering, but because the lead up to and implementation of martial law taken by Pervez Musharraf has disturbing similarities to changes made by the Bush Administration to our own United States government. Pervez Musharraf was able to suspend the Pakistani Constitution and impose martial law by declaring “emergency rule.” After declaring “emergency rule”, Pervez Musharraf deployed troops to patrol city streets, forcibly shut down the media, and arrested thousands of lawyers, human rights activists, protestors, journalists, and protesting citizens. The phrase “emergency rule” is strikingly similar to the phrase “c...

Musharraf Declares Martial Law in Pakistan
2007-11-03 20:12:00 It was only a matter of time. Can you say Hugo Chavez. The really scary part is that Pakistan now has nuclear weapons. Our government has people that plan for every possible contingency from earthquakes to broken levees (ok so they dropped the ball on that one) to nuclear war. I wonder if the contingency planners ever imagined a nuclear civil war amongst our ‘allies’. General Musharraf resorted to military power to gain the presidency in October 1999 when he staged a bloodless coup, and Mr. Rizvi said this was a return to those measures. “This is the first time Musharraf has brought in military rule to sustain himself in power,” he said. “He felt threatened by the Supreme Court.”That pretty much says it all. ~RJH  New York Times article link Musharraf Declares Emergency Rule By DAVID ROHDEISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Nov. 3 — The Pakistani leader, Gen. Remembering Martial Law
2007-09-21 15:51:00 Today marks the 35th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law on September 21, 1972 by former President Marcos. Except for the elderly ones, only a few remember it when then Defense Secretary Juan Ponce Enrile, now a Senator, was "ambushed" supposedly by the New People's Army and so, to "stop the Communist takeover", Marcos declared Martial Law. Congress was abolished. After Martial Law, it seems it has not improved from the Congress of pre-Martial Law that made Marcos decide to abolish it. You only have to read his book on the declaration of Martial Law, entitled, "Today's Revolution: Democracy." He called it a revolution from the center. And he acted as though the three branches of government were in his hands. Senators, Congressmen, and many other officials including the Courts were intimidated by him. Effectivity of some laws was suspended. Newspapers, radio, and television stations critical of Marcos were closed, affecting journalists, and media people. They were placed ...

2007-08-29 18:28:00 Martial Law Threat is Realby Dave Lindorff Global Research, July 29, 2007 Commons Dreams Email this article to a friend Print this article The looming collapse of the US military in Iraq, of which a number of generals and former generals, including former Chief of Staff Colin Powell, have warned, is happening none too soon, as it my be the best hope for preventing military rule here at home. From the looks of things, the Bush/Cheney regime has been working assiduously to pave the way for a declaration of military rule, such that at this point it really lacks only the pretext to trigger a suspension of Constitutional government. They have done this with the active support of Democrats in Congress, though most of the heavy lifting was done by the last, Republican-led Congress. The first step, or course, was the first Authorization for Use of Military Force, passed in September 2001, which the president has subsequently used to claim ‹improperly, but so what? ‹that ...

Making martial law easier
2007-03-07 14:35:03 When I started working on Murphy’s War about two years after the Oklahoma City bombing, I was imagining a future America where an intrusive federal government was spying on citizens, listening in on people’s phone calls, suspending habeas corpus, and using the military in ways that violated posse comitatus. Little did I imagine then that virtually every thing I thought of, we would see worse in the months and years after September 11.Originally I was just playing with an idea – what series of events, in this day and age, could drive a state to try to secede from the United States. Impossible. But as much as possible, I was trying to lay the groundwork for a credible story that would lead to civil war.Well, when it comes out later this year, we’ll see if it’s credible or not. Bush Moves Toward Martial Law
2007-02-23 08:18:00 Bush Moves Toward Martial LawIn a stealth maneuver, President Bush has signed into law a provision which, according to Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont), will actually encourage the President to declare federal martial law (1). It does so by revising the Insurrection Act, a set of laws that limits the President's ability to deploy troops within the United States. The Insurrection Act (10 U.S.C.331 -335) has historically, along with the Posse Comitatus Act (18 U.S.C.1385), helped to enforce strict prohibitions on military involvement in domestic law enforcement. With one cloaked swipe of his pen, Bush is seeking to undo those prohibitions.Public Law 109-364, or the "John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007" (H.R.5122) (2), which was signed by the commander in chief on October 17th, 2006, in a private Oval Office ceremony, allows the President to declare a "public emergency" and station troops anywhere in America and take control of state-based National Guard units without the co... |
