The Guantana-martyrs of Guantanamo Bay?
2008-06-08 20:52:00
No sensible person can condone the actions of 22 people on September/11 2001. To needlessly kill thousands of innocent people is an act of violence so abhorrent it is without precedent. Some of those responsible have been captured, most notably Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the presumed mastermind behind the atrocity, and the Al Qaeda number two. Here ...
Martyrs or Victims
2008-05-24 15:26:00
There are a lot of people in this world who rely on playing the role of a martyr or victim to get through life. Seriously, if someone always tells you how they can’t keep up with life or work but take on more than is necessary then why do it. It’s not necessary to go around ...

Martyrs' Field
2008-02-01 14:17:00
In three bloody years Mary Tudor had 283 protestant English men and women burned at the stake. In this field outside the walls of the city of Canterbury, 41 of them won the martyrs ' crown.Of course, Canterbury pilgrims, past and present tend to know nothing about this. With Chaucer's pilgrims they are going to see the shrine of Becket, who died for his allegiance to Rome, murdered in the cathedral. The cathedral is easy to find but you pay to go in. Martys Field is free but hard to find. It is not in any guide book we could find. Here is what Foxe in his Book of Martyrs says about these people. Rev. John Bland, Rev. John Frankesh, Nicholas Shetterden, and Humphrey Middleton These Christian persons were all burnt at Canterbury for the same cause. Frankesh and Bland were ministers and preachers of the Word of God, the one being parson of Adesham, and the other vicar of Rolvenden. Mr. Bland was cited to answer for his opposition to antichristianism, and underwent several examinatio...

Resurrection of Islam is indebtted to Iranian martyrs(2008/01/03)
2008-01-16 12:33:00
Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei likened the Iranian nation's martyrs and war veterans to the roots of the soaring majesty of the Islamic System."The historical resurrection of Islam and the awakening of the Islamic umma (community) is indebted to the movement of the Iranian nation and the sacrifices the families of its martyrs made. In the past three decades, thee sacrifices have helped advance the cause by a distance normally to be covered in hundreds of years," Ayatollah Khamenei told the families of martyrs in Yazd province central Iran Thursday."Not only the Iranian nation takes honor in them (Iranian martyrs), they are also a source of pride for human generation," Ayatollah Khamenei said, touching on the robust defense the Iranian soldiers mounted against the western-backed invading forces of the executed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein credited as Sacred Defense among the Iranian nation.Ayatollah Khamenei then paid homage to those who lost their body par...
Cave of the Martyrs
2008-01-09 19:44:00
For the last few months I've been wondering what the green halogen lights leading up the mountainside were for. Alien landing site? Late night mining operations? There was nothing obvious from down below but one day I noticed a new street sign pointing up the hill. The white on brown colour scheme denoting something of cultural interest.A thin layer of crisp snow lay on the ground the morning I decided to make my way up. I followed the icy dirt path in unsuitable shoes. Paw tracks showed me that the local strays had been up and down before dawn. A long, white goods container had been deposited on a level area half way up. Green-painted frame borders with "Kahf al-Shohada" (Cave of the Martyrs), brushed on in vivid blood-red spoke of the grief-fuelled nationalism so fundamental to current power structures. Open air martyr-worship in a country where the politico-religious establishment has a strict monopoly on public expression.Further up was a slightly wider but equally anticlimatic...

How we are treating our martyrs in India?
2007-12-13 18:41:00
On December 13, 2001, 5 terrorist belonging to terrorist organisation LeT attacked the Indian Parliament. At that time around 200 Member Parliaments including senior leaders were inside the Parliament. If these terrorists were successful in their motives then this could have great implications. However, our security personals on duty in Parliament saved the lives of these leaders and pride of India by lying down their own lives. In this battle with the terrorists 9 security personals and one parliament staff died. After these attacks, all these people died in terrorist attack were honoured for their supreme service to nation and their families were assured with number of incentives. However, the apathy is that many of these families have not received any help assured to them by the government even after the 6 six years after the attack. Today Vimla Devi, wife of ASI Nanak Chand resorted to tears during remembering 13 December martyrs in Parliament by the parliamentarians. She told ab...

Martyrs didn?t cease

Lena Bosinova’s self-immolation in protest against the Israeli government evicting Jews from Gaza is a case of sanctification of God’s name. The destruction of Jewish settlements by Israeli government qualifies as idolatry: worship of democracy and submission to foreign sponsors. People die of physical wounds but also of moral wounds, in heart stroke. Some dishonor ...

Another Bin-Laden Tape Calls For Martyrs
2007-09-11 17:06:00
Bin-Laden Looking For A "Caravan" Of Martyrs: Osama Bin-Landen has released yet another tape to mark the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Though his first authenticated message in 3 years had no direct threat or warning against the U.S., the Al-Qaida leader has called directly upon Islam to embrace jihad in this latest message. Bin-Laden uses  9/11 hijacker a-Shehri as an example of what it means to embrace Allah, and carry out his will. "It is true that this young man was little in years, but the faith in his heart was big," he said. "So there is a huge difference between the path of the kings, presidents and hypocritical Ulama (Islamic scholars) and the path of these noble young men," Bin-Laden continued. "The formers' lot is to spoil and enjoy themselves whereas the latters' lot is to destroy themselves for Allah's Word to be Supreme." "It remains for us to do our part. So I tell every young man among the youth of Islam: I...

The Martyrs No One Cares About
2007-08-04 11:23:00
By Michelle Malkin - The blood of innocent Christian missionaries spills on Afghan sands. The world watches and yawns. The United Nations offers nothing more than a formal expression of "concern." Where is the global uproar over the human rights abuses unfolding before our eyes? The Christian missionaries are peaceful believers in Christ on short-term medical and humanitarian missions. Seventeen of the 23 hostages are females. Most of them are nurses who provide social services and relief. Two men, 29-year-old Shim Sung-min and 42-year-old Pastor Bae Hyeong-gyu, have already been shot to death and dumped in the name of Allah. These are true practitioners of a religion of peace, not the hate-mongers with bombs and AK-47s strapped to their chests who slay instead of pray their way to martyrdom. An estimated 16,000 Korean mission workers risk their lives across the globe -- from Africa to the Middle East, China and North Korea. Arab Bloggers : Heroes or martyrs?
2007-05-04 17:28:00
by Issandr El AmraniPress freedom: In the Arab world bloggers are stepping in where the press dare not tread. But who will protect them? The Arab world presents a generally grim picture of media freedom. Newspapers and television or radio stations are generally impossible to start without the state's approval and require close connections to ruling regimes. While satellite news stations such as al-Jazeera have brought much good to the media landscape, they are not immune from the backroom dealings between Arab regimes or powerful business and political interests. Local Rupert Murdochs have brought more polished, consumer-oriented media - a vast improvement over ossified state organs - but they tread carefully on the most sensitive issues, not wanting to endanger vast business empires. Even the most courageous journalists know they can be only a pen stroke away from being sacked, banned, imprisoned, or worse. Al-Jazeera journalist Howeida Taha found this out yesterday when an Egypt...

Heroic martyrs spur Latin America in new direction
2007-03-14 17:52:00
I find Latin America a fascinating continent, though I have never been there. But I am inspired by the stories of the suffering of countless numbers of ordinary people who resisted the authoritarian rule of US-backed right-wing regimes. Many of these regimes served to protect the economic interests of the local (largely white) wealthy elite ...
Iranian textbooks indoctrinate students to become ?martyrs? in global holy
2007-02-10 05:35:02
LONDON — Textbooks used in Iran’s schools are instilling students with hatred toward the West, especially the United States, and urging them to become “martyrs” in a global holy war against countries perceived to be enemies of Islam, a new study says. An Iranian human rights activist, Ghazal Omid, praised the findings, saying they prove hard-liners in Iran are using the books to turn children into “ticking bombs.” Link to this article.
