New Millennium Theatre?s ?Villains? Scores Originality With Anti-Hero Plotl
2008-06-04 10:23:00 CHICAGO ? In an unrevealed abandoned warehouse in the seedy underbelly of Chicago?s north side that is the Uptown neighborhood, a group of super villains met last Saturday night to plot and scheme their next attack against law-abiding society. Well, maybe not quite, but the overlooked adversaries of America?s superheroes did crack wise, bicker and whine in New Millennium Theatre?s production of ?Villains? at Chicago?s National Pastime Theater. The result? Imagine if ?F Troop? tried to pull off a diamond heist. A scene from New Millennium Theatre?s ?Villains?.Photo credit: New Millennium Theatre This quintessential brotherhood of evil morons includes prototypes from all your typical, testosterone-packed, four-color comic books. First we have the heavy ?Slab? with superhuman strength and a love for Poppycock. Unfortunately, his powers are ineffective whenever he?s around a substance known as ?solarbrinite?. It seems (according to Slab) that stuff is everywhere. Then there is ?Heat...

But, here I am. In Iraq. Without comic books. Not really–there have been some wonderful people to offer to send me some, which ...

A Mobile Marvel - Comics on Your Phone
2008-05-28 11:47:00 Wanna catch up with the goings on of Wolverine, The Hulk, DareDevil and the like from the comfort of your mobile phone? Yeah? Well Marvel Comics wants to do just that. A quote from Marvel (source IESB - link below): …View digital distribution of our comics as an area of great growth potential…and also soon in mobile distribution…so they can read our new comic books on their mobile device… My only worry is how readable will these be? Would the mobile devices mentioned just be the top end PMPs and things such as the e-Book or do they intend including phones? Most computer screens are either 72 or 96 dpi. The iPhone is 163 dpi, while the SE’s Xperia is rumoured to have a print quality resolution of 296 dpi. So, in theory, Marvel and other publishers will be able to put more content on the screen or offer multi-resolution comics. I’m quite excited by the thought of this though……….- Would you sign up? IESB
Marvel Comics on your cell phone
2008-05-28 05:56:00 The time may be close at hand when you can peruse Marvel comics on your cell phone. The comics industry had to embrace it someday, sales being what they are. I’m just wondering how they are going to deal with such a small screen. They may just offer snippets that give you the whole story, ...

Stan Lee, The Midas King Of Marvel Comics
2008-05-05 19:42:00 Stanley Martin Lieber (Stan Lee) was born in 1922 in New York. He's the creative mind behind characters like The Fantastic Four, Spiderman, Hulk, Iron Man, Daredevil, X-Men, and more. When he finished his studies, Stan Lee began to work in Marvel. He was cousin of Martin Goodman's wife, the publisher of Marvel Comics. After a year of working there, he did his first work as a writer of comic stories. It was a short story starring by Captain America. But Stan Lee dreamed of creating his own characters, and being an important fiction author. That first work was signed with the name "Stan Lee", the name with which he's known worldwide.During the following years, Stan Lee was editor, artistic director, writer-director, and made up to 5 comic books per week.Stan Lee was a big fan of Errol Flynn movies, giving that touch of arrogant and brave hero to his own characters. Other people that inspired Stan Lee were the historical figures of Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Winston Churchill, that we...

One More Day Conclusion
2008-04-15 22:05:00 It was sad to see, but I don’t believe that this is the end of Mr and Mrs Parker. I just don’t see it–if anything, this gives the writers years of romantic tension for Spider-Man. But, I think it will be a lot of fun to watch. It is comic books like this one that makes me ...

I want your MARRIAGE
2008-04-08 19:36:00 What a great read! Spider-Man comes face to face with the Mephisto, who makes an offer: His Marriage or His Aunt. Ok, so that doesn’t seem so spectacular, but it really does. We don’t see marriage lifted up to the high a place in most places of American media. Here it is. ...

Danny Fingeroth, DISGUISED AS CLARK KENT, SUPERMAN ON THE COUCH, author, co
2008-03-31 17:01:00 Danny Fingeroth spends a whole lot of time thinking about superheroes. For several years, he did it as the editor of the Spider-Man group of titles at Marvel Comics. Today, he?s the editor of Write Now! magazine and author of two books that go behind the four-color glory of men in tights. Already the author of Superman on the Couch, Fingeroth?s latest examination of comics, Disguised as Clark Kent, explores why so many of the enduring characters of the golden and silver ages of comics can trace their heritage back to young American Jewish artists and writers such as Will Eisner, Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster, Jack Kirby, and Stan Lee. His next book, Rough Guide to Graphic Novels, will be released by Penguin in 2008. 2008-03-25 15:54:00 Last November of 2007, Marvel began to put together a new twist for Spider-man–that would take him a different direction. Stan Lee & Marvel Comics Rivaling Disney
2008-03-16 05:39:00 Stan Lee and his Marvel Comics are proving a fair match for the giant Disney. Though Marvel can’t match the extreme wealth of Disney, it still is a formiable contender. Marvel is certainly gaining market share with its interesting and exciting superheroe line-up. We’ve always loved their comic books, and now with Marvel’s transition to and/or addition of films - we love them even more. Disney has to be feeling the heat from Marvel Comics movie success.Stan Lee, the head of Marvel and creator of many of its superheroes, is doing a fantastic 4(how you like them apples?) job developing his company’s endeaver into feature films, the movies are nothing short of mind-blogging. They all do the given superhero or superheroes justice, they present an exacting pictorial of the characters - not to mention the showing of the superheroe’s powers - with the movie’s amazing special effects. Stan Lee you continue to get it done. I for one give you a standing ovation - you certainly d...

Wanna Read A Ton Of Marvel Comics? Try Their New Digital Comics Service!
2007-12-16 18:20:00 Back in the tech bubble of the late 1990s, many predicted comics, newspapers, magazines and more would be online. They were wrong, the bubble burst, etc. But then, by the late 2000s, the Web 2.0 actually took over and delivered what was promised nearly a decade before.More and more people are getting their news and entertainment through the web, social sites like MySpace are in the top 10 of websites, and now Marvel allows you to read high quality digital comics online, literally thousands of new issues and classic stories. It's a paid subscription service, $4.99 a month (pre-pay for the year at $59.88) or $9.99 if you want to go month-to-month. I'm considering it, but I have mixed feelings. I love reading comics that are in my hands, but more often I'm checking stuff out online, like Bob Layton and Dick Giordano's The Colony.Plus, why would I want to pay for something that Marvel's been offering for free for a few years now, albeit in a limited amount of...

Marvel Comics Shipping 11-29-07
2007-11-26 23:41:00 I just placed my advance orders for January and I did decide to jump-in on The New Exiles (Chris Claremont). I was reading a great article in this month's CBG, where Cap'n Comics (whose articles I have been reading for years because The Commercial Appeal in Memphis carried his column - no idea if they still do) basically said 'we all think the comics we fell in love with around age 12-13 were the best comics ever made.' Someone else expounded upon this, noting how he had almost given up on comics because he thought they were all crap until he just let go and took them for what they are instead of what they used to be or what he expected them to be.That's the long way around saying I've had two Chris Claremont experiences in the past, say, 5-6 years:I reread some of my old X-Men comics and the really good ones stood out - way, way out - but the vast majority of them were pretty... bad, actually. But bad in a comics way - bad in the way all juvenile fiction is bad when you gr...

Most will just be glad to have the opportunity to see old comics and read them without having to pay the huge amounts for the originals. |
