Clampdown overdue
2008-03-28 16:22:00
FA plans to tackle dissent represent a long-overdue step to address the moral malaise blighting every tier of England's national game. The crimes of Javier Mascherano and Ashley Cole will be soon forgotten by fans of Liverpool and Chelsea, and sooner still by those who pay their wages. By football's twisted logic, ill-discipline has become an acceptable caveat to success.Built on such philosophy, the Premier League has become a lawless state - where referees endure incessant abuse, and losing managers appear contractually obliged to spit bile in their direction at every opportunity. To understand the trickle-down effect of such histrionics, simply spend an afternoon watching your local amateur side - you'll soon realise the petulant acts of Cole, Mascherano et al resonate far beyond the glamorous surroundings of Anfield and Stamford Bridge."The problem these days is that lower league players expect to be able to get away with the behaviour they see in the Premier League," said Paul...

Javi Martinez or Javier Mascherano ?
2007-11-16 12:00:00
They may share the same initials and buy out fees but there's big differences between the 2 players. For one Javier has got more letters in his name and I think it sounds cooler so for that reason alone I would prefer we signed him at the end of the season ;-)The Reds amongst many other clubs are currently heavily scouting the impressive 19 year old Martinez who plays for Athletic Bilbao but at £17 million, I doubt we've got room to buy both himself and Mascherano at the end of the season, plus we've got a packed quality midfield as it is !With Mascherano we've got a proven performer (premiership & europe) both on and off the pitch who has a real hunger to play for the Reds so I really hope he's the one we go for.

Mascherano - music to our ears
2007-11-09 15:08:00
Best news I've heard all day is Rafa giving Mascherano the thumbs up for a very likely permanent transfer at the end of the season :-)Right from the start of his 18 month loan with us he's impressed with his exceptional ball winning skills, rarely having an off day, but it's his attitude off the pitch which I like most. You don't hear him moaning incessantly about being left out of the squad or anything like that, he takes his chances when given and is a true team player. If only all our players were like that !
You want me to play Sissoko and Mascherano? I say no, no, no

In my last post, I put forward my opinion that Mascherano and Sissoko should never play together but after thinking about things for a little longer and taking a few minutes to watch a bit of the match again, I may have to eat my words. First off, here’s what Mascherano and Sissoko both give you ...

FIFA could open the door for Mascherano
2007-10-11 00:48:00
Thanks to the protracted wranglings over the Carlos Tevez transfer, FIFA decided yesterday that it was time to look at how restrictive third party (eg MSI) ownership of a player can hinder transfers. They haven't publicly revealed exactly what their proposed solution is going to be other than to say it will be "simple and effective".It's certainly no secret that LFC have an option with MSI to purchase the economic rights and player registration of Mascherano for £17 million before June 30 2008. However LFC will probably proceed with caution now that there's impending changes to be made to FIFAs regulations.Hopefully the less restrictive regulations will translate into a lower transfer fee making it easier for us to strengthen in other areas too.

Mascherano Makes Move To Liverpool
2007-02-21 22:22:02
Finally the on-off saga of the transfer of Javier Mascherano from West Ham United to Liverpool is over. It required a little intervention from world football?s governing body FIFA in order for the mover to happen. Mascherano had been registered with and played for two clubs in 12 months, which is the maximum allowed. However FIFA ruled that the seasons were not concurrent and that Mascherano would be allowed to move to Liverpool. This had to be agreed by the Premier League and today they have given the Merseyside club the green light, and Mascherano will be available for the Champions League game against Barcelona.
FIFA GIVE MASCHERANO GO-AHEAD
2007-02-01 09:51:00
Paul Eaton 31 January 2007FIFA have given Javier Mascherano permission to play for Liverpool if he completes his move to Anfield, but the Reds are now waiting to hear whether the deal will be sanctioned by the Premier League. The game's governing body has agreed to the move even though the player has already played for two clubs in the past twelve months. A FIFA statement read: "After due consideration of all aspects, the Fifa single judge ruled that, 'Upon registration for Liverpool FC during the present registration period, the player Javier Mascherano is eligible to play in official matches with the said club with immediate effect'." Despite FIFA giving their green light to the deal, Liverpool are still waiting to hear if the Premier League will allow it to progress. A Liverpool spokesman said: "FIFA have confirmed the player is entitled to play for Liverpool. "However, the move from West Ham still needs to be ratified by the Premier League and we await their decision."
Mascherano Plays Im An Argentinean Get Me Out Of Here At Wes
2007-01-04 15:38:02
Javier Mascherano has told the Spanish press that he must leave West Ham United as soon as possible. In an interview with Equipo he said “I have to leave? can’t spend any more time like this, without playing. I can’t allow my career to go stagnant at my age.? The 22 year old doesn?t believe he has been given a fair chance at Upton Park, and in order to achieve his goal of success he believes he needs to move on. He is not short of potential suitors as both Liverpool and Real Zaragoza would both like to sign him. Juventus would have been the third name in the hat however they feel contractual predicament is too complicated, as he is actually owned by his agents MSI but registered to West Ham.
