"The problem is Microsoft blundered with the letter this weekend," Miller told the Journal, referring to Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer's letter to Yahoo giving it three weeks to evaluate the $42 billion takeover offer, after which it threatened to resort to a proxy battle. "Telling the shareholders you're going to take something away from them is not a way to get their support," Miller told the Journal. 2008-04-03 00:58:00 Jim Larranaga declined an offer to lead the Providence Friars, instead accepting a three year extension to remain head men's basketball coach of the George Mason Patriots through 2014-2015. The decision comes as a surprise in some corners (including my own) as Providence College is Larranaga's alma mater.For the second time though, Larranaga spurned a Big East Conference school in choosing the loyalty and familiarity of George Mason. It's at the CAA school after all where Larranaga gained national prominence with an improbable Final Four run, made the NCAA tourney again this year and recruited a strong incoming class poised to continue his success. Considering that Providence fans didn't seem inclined to embrace Larranaga anyway, it's just as well that he stayed at Mason.
