A Tale of Two Massachusetts Millionaires
2012-01-23 12:45:00
From Howie Carr, Boston Herald: Mitt’s still got an 18-point lead in Florida, or did before last night’s Newt landslide. But he’s got to learn to lie better in these debates. That lame story of his about why he didn’t run for re-election in Massachusetts in 2006 was bad enough, but on the question of releasing his income tax returns, he squirmed like a gaffed fish. He was drowning in flop sweat. Why is Mitt ashamed of having a lot of money? If Newt, the born-again Catholic, can brush off his cheating past, how come Mitt can’t explain coherently why it’s OK to pay a 15 percent capital gains rate on money you’ve already paid the top 35 percent income tax rate on when you first earned it? Yes Mitt Romney is rich.   Then so is Massachusetts’ other playboy politician and one time presidential wanna be John “French” Kerry.   Frenchy never had to defend being filthy rich,  never apologized for making millions by marrying his first wife, then having  the...

Fall nor?easter hits Massachusetts and it?s coming down hard two hours in.
2011-10-29 23:46:00
UPDATE - 10:45am 10/30/2011: Wake up at 3am this morning without power and no heat (we have electric heat only). Spend the good part of the morning very cold and trying to sleep. However thankfully about 10 minutes ago, we got our power restored (National Grid).I?m surprised to say the least considering I heard a large tree fall next to the house, but not where powerlines are. We have about 6 inches on the ground of wet snow and several leaning trees with snow on them. But the sun is out and the snow is slowly melting especially on trees. We got lucky and now time for lunch and a hot shower.Original Article:For the last few days now up here in Massachusetts, meteorologists have been advising viewers that this latest Nor?easter could give the state several inches of snow (6-10 inches) and maybe some power outages. And I can tell you that when I went out early this morning to a local Walmart 15 minutes away, it looked like a madhouse with a lot of people trying to pickup supplies for t...
Romneycare: Wait Times to see Docs Growing in Massachusetts
2011-05-11 17:38:00
-By Warner Todd Huston The Boston Globe is reporting that wait times are growing for citizens of Massachusetts to get in to see their doctors under the universal healthcare plan that Mitt Romney saddled Bay Staters with. Wait times have grown to as much as 48 days it has been found. The average wait ranged from 24 days for an appointment with a pediatrician to 48 days to see an internist. The wait for an internist was actually down slightly, from 53 days in a similar 2010 survey, but the waits for family doctors, gastroenterologists, orthopedists, and ob/gyns increased. Worse, new patients are finding it almost impossible to even find a new doctor as most of them are full and...

Is Illinois the next "Miracle in Massachusetts?"
2010-01-26 19:10:00
Illinois Republican Chairman Pat Brady thinks so. But, I'm not so sure.In a statement Wednesday, Brady said of the election in which Republican Scott Brown pulled off a stunning upset: "Illinois is next. Like Massachusetts, Illinois is under control of the single-party rule Democrats who have had unbridled control of the State of Illinois for the last eight years and have brought us to the brink of financial collapse. The eyes of the nation will be upon Illinois as we seek to regain the United States Senate seat formerly held by President Obama and retake the Governor's mansion."Brady noted that in Massachusetts, "Republicans, Independents and even a substantial segment of Democrat voters turned out to soundly reject the Obama Administration's uncontrolled...

Massachusetts Update: Predictions!

Got your bookie on speed dial? Chicago native Nate Silver of fivethirtyeight.com has plugged the Massachusetts numbers into an algorithm that I can't possibly hope to explain and comes out with this:The FiveThirtyEight Senate Forecasting Model, which correctly predicted the outcome of all 35 Senate races in 2008, now regards Republican Scott Brown as a 74 percent favorite to win the Senate seat in Massachusetts on the basis of new polling from ARG, Research 2000 and InsiderAdvantage which show worsening numbers for Brown's opponent, Martha Coakley.Game over? Well, Silver cautions:Coakley's odds are substantially worse than they appeared to be 24 hours ago, when there were fewer credible polls to evaluate and there appeared to be some chance that her numbers...

2008-11-29 23:47:00
Normally it isn’t my cup of tea to write in this way, however right now in the United States including here in Massachusetts, the big story all over the US continues to be the economy and how it impacts each state. One huge issue is the Auto bailout, should the government bailout the Big Three or not?And if that wasn’t enough in this shaky economy, Massachusetts is now looking at a deficit in state money and they are trying to find new ways to increase revenue as well and one bad idea is increase the gas tax, should they?Well these are hot topics in my eyes, however right now I am still torn on the Big Three, on one hand, we need the big three for jobs and if they go out of business which is highly unlikely, lots of jobs and cars will be lost, so a government bailout might be needed, on the other hand, is any amount of money, $25 billion dollars for example going to really help at all, yeah maybe 25 days... Now I will say that GM needs to delete brands and rework there company, ...
