Graduation Dilemma in Massachusetts

You may have heard this tear-jerker on this morning’s news or read about it: Dateline, Andover, Massachusetts: Sarah Pearson is two credits short of the requirements for graduating with the rest of her Andover High School senior class — she knows this and doesn’t debate that fact. The reason she is short on her credits is ...

2008-06-03 18:49:00
The Massachusetts Health Insurance Mandate managed to nearly cut the number of uninsured nearly in half within one year. While today’s signs of success of the ...

2008-06-03 13:59:00
Way back in 2005 I wrote how Massachusetts families were using their homes as a ATM with cash out refinancing. At that time 14 percent of household income was coming from these cash out refinances. Well, it looks like many of these folks are losing their homes now as they took too much out of the ...

2008-06-01 13:00:00
Ah, a government and their lust to spend money is never quenched. All this for affordable housing across a state where housing is becoming more affordable ...
Massachusetts Sees Home Sales Increase in April
2008-05-30 12:08:00
With home prices at historic lows all across the country and the federal interest rate extremely low, economists and government officials are hoping that sooner or later people will start to take advantage and buy real estate. Buying up excess property is the only way many think the housing market can actually rebound, and it seems that in some areas, this is beginning to take root.

California and Massachusetts are Totally Getting Gay Married
2008-05-16 00:22:00
Earlier today, the California Supreme Court struck down California’s ban on same-sex marriage, a ban that had existed since a voter referendum in 2000. Why does this matter, especially for non-homosexuals who live in non-California? As San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom pointed out, “It’s a throwaway line, but I think it’s true: As California goes, so goes the nation.” As California goes, so goes the nation. IT’S TIME FOR A GAY MARRIAGE POP QUIZ! QUESTION ONE: Will gay marriage play a roll in the 2008 presidential elections, the same way it did in 2004? _______________________________-_ QUESTION TWO: How will the presidential candidates respond to the California Supreme Court’s decision? _______________________________-_ BONUS QUESTION: If the nation follows California, and the presidential candidates follow the nation, and the media follows the presidential candidates, and political bloggers follow the media, and California allows gay-marriage, and ...

Stone Street Capital Slips On Banana Peel with Massachusetts "Do Not Call L
2008-05-06 15:57:00
One of our sources in Massachusetts told me this morning that he received a call from an Audrey Ismael (phonetic spelling) who said she represented Stone Street Capital, a "cash now" pusher. The stated purpose of the call by Ismael was " they wanted to know how the transaction went with his structured settlement". When the caller asked "how did you get my name?" Ismael replied "it's confidential, I really can't tell you that".  To which the source replied "that's interesting because I am on the "Do Not Call list". Chapter 265 of the Acts of 2002, An Act Regulating Telemarketing Solicitation, creates a “Do Not Call” registry within the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation.  The law became effective on January 1, 2003 and is found at Chapter 159C of the Massachusetts General Laws.  By signing on to the Do Not Call Registry consumers will be able to stop receiving certain prohibited telepho...

Has Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick Quit on His State?

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick has learned the same lesson that his predecessor, Mitt Romney, had learned. That lesson is that the governorship of Massachusetts is nothing but a figurehead. Massachusetts Foreclosures reached a high in 07
2008-04-01 14:58:00
There were thousands of Massachusetts foreclosure homes that were up for grabs in 2007. The number was overwhelming at 7,563 homes, which was almost three times the foreclosure rate in 2006. Massachusetts faced a severe crisis and this is a new record of sorts because so many real estate foreclosures had not been seen since the early 1990?s.

2008 Massachusetts draft results
2008-03-17 21:27:00
All in all, I'm pretty happy, especially considering that I was off at a St. Patty's day party yesterday instead of being at my draft. Considering I had to rely on autodraft, even though I spent a good deal of time pre-ranking, I think my team turned out alright. I have a lot of power in my lineup including three guys with an OPS over 1.000 (Ortiz, Holliday and Chipper). I also have enough SBs to make me feel comfortable and to possibly win the cat for me a few times this year. read more
Socialized Medicine in America: Massachusetts Shows Us How It Will Fail He
2008-03-17 20:11:00
Remember when I wrote this: As the state of Massachusetts has shown, along with Great Britain and Canada, socialized health care generally runs a higher cost than is initially expected. In order to meet the financial goals, the quality of care offered to the patient is compromised. If either Democrat candidate wins the 2008 election and enacts a universal health care program in America, there is no reason to doubt that we?ll face similar results here. Well…I hate to say I told you so, but, I told you so: Cambridge Health Alliance, a key part of the Boston area’s healthcare network, is facing a potentially “catastrophic” loss this year and is looking to eliminate up to 300 jobs, or about 9 percent of its workforce, in an effort to stabilize finances. more stories like this The alliance, which includes Cambridge Hospital, Somerville Hospital, and Whidden Hospital in Everett, says it is being hit hard by the state’s new healthcare reform law, which has lef...

Four Nights at the Doubletree Club Hotel Bayside in Boston, Massachusetts
2008-03-14 21:23:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Doubletree Club Hotel Boston Bayside was booked in my name as a part of a business trip in early March. A large trade show was taking place at the Boston Convention Center and this hotel was to be our base. I arrived to Logan Airport late on the Sunday before the big event. A call to the hotel's reception ensured free pickup and transport to the premises by their own shuttle. The shuttle did arrive promptly and the entire drive did not take more than fifteen minutes. The lobby was sleepy and empty. I was greeted by the staff which processed the reservations. A trainee was taking care of my paperwork with an experienced employee by their side. This did take a while due to the fact that I had two different reservations but I did not mind it. I was able to stay in the same room and that's what mattered to me. I got my warm chocolate chip cookie (which I learned is their signature welcome) and headed up to the room.Rate and Review : Four Nights at th...
