A chi invece ho proposto questi pasticcini? Chiacchierando con Katy su Gtalk le raccontavo della mia clientela di questo periodo. Stranamente mi ritrovo un folto gruppo di romani. Ma non sono arrivati tutti insieme! No, no!

Polka Dot Matcha Tea Cake
2008-04-23 06:28:00 Meet the most wonderful little tea cake, snack cake, perfect middle of the day break cake...that almost never got posted! Despite the fact that I have made it three times since last week, it is so popular among food bloggers that it seemed redundant to add my own version to the mix. When I cut into it and served to B. with a cup of tea Sunday afternoon, he exclaimed "It is so good you have to post it...and I don't really like Matcha". I told him it had been around the blogging block quite a bit and I was just interested in trying a different cake recipe for our little afternoon pick me ups. "Did you make it exactly the same way?" he asked. "Ugh, no...completely different actually, the designs and ingredients have changed, only the concept remains" I replied. I knew where he was heading...A couple of weeks ago, a friend mentioned she wanted to try Matcha but everytime she smelled it she was turned off by the strong grassy scent. I thought of making cupcakes or or a cake with some sm...

Matcha-Adzuki Cupcakes
2008-03-31 01:00:00 My streak for cupcake making continues. I find it fun to develop my own recipes rather than following someone's. I also like the fact that mines are low in sugar and fat. I still haven't found a way to lighten up the frosting, though...In the Japanese sweets world, Matcha is almost always companied by adzuki. (This combination is called Uji-Kintoki in Japanese.) When I saw some matcha cupcakes on Flickr, I got inspired to make this one. I initially thought about using melon extract, but I decided to use almond extract instead. Starbucks uses melon syrup for its green tea latte, so I think that would also work. I'm sure vanilla extract would work fine, but I think almond extract accentuated the matcha flavor. If you are like me and enjoy sugar-free deserts, I think the adzuki filling is sweet enough to enjoy this cupcake. Without the frosting, this cupcake tasted a lot like a Japanese treat that comes with a cup of green tea. Most of the matcha cupcake photos I saw on Flickr had a...

Matcha White Chocolate Ice Cream
2008-03-03 07:02:00 I have been slooooowly eating a spoonful of this after dinner e-ve-ry-night for the past two weeks now. Why? I have this theory that if I eat it as if it were medecine then maybe I might get the attributes of Jaden, the wonderful woman who (unknowingly) introduced it to me. Allright...allright, on a more serious note I only eat it that slow because it is so good you will want to make it last. Jaden fell in love with the idea after Joycelyn from Kuidaore did a wonderful post about it. I have been craving ever since....Brilynn and Inne were lucky to get their hands on some matcha and made it too and I was craving it even more! I missed the earthy and grassy flavors of matcha tea so bad!It was torture over here....could not get my hands on matcha powder without having to order a truckload or paying a price I was not yet ready to shell out since I was the only one to like it. You see one afternoon during our Christmas vacation back home, I dragged B. into Sadaharu Aoki and we bought a c...

Pomatcha Cupcakes
2007-10-02 20:39:00 I’m not 100% sure from where the idea for this one came. I think it might have been the result of my recent obsession with Pom’s Pomegranate Green Tea, because when I decided to make green tea cupcakes, I didn’t have to even think to top them off with a pomegranate frosting. The flavors work great together – the sweet tartness of the pomegranate and the mellowness of the green tea complement

Matcha Green Tea - Part 1
2007-10-02 15:55:00 Author: Aiya AmericaOriginal Source: Matcha TeaWhat is Matcha?Matcha is the oldest variety of shade-grown Japanese green tea, traditionally used in Zen Buddhist ceremonies for over 800 years. Ground into a fine, jade-green powder using granite grinding wheels, Matcha is whisked with water to create a unique, beautiful and richly flavorful drink.Today, Matcha is also being used as the raw material in green tea flavored products, including ice cream, gelato, smoothies, lattes and chocolates.HistoryAccording to 3rd Century A.D. Japanese literature, green tea was first used as an elixir to remedy swelling, fever and other symptoms. The Japanese envoy is thought to have introduced green tea seeds to China during the Tang Dynasty to be used by nobility and Buddhist clergy as a medicinal tonic. In 1191, the Japanese Zen Buddhist monk Eisai returned from China with a new way to drink green tea. He poured the stone-ground powdered tea into hot water and stirred it together ? just like today...
