Not that it matters, really. Whatever you call the style--"contemporary instrumental" seems as good a term as any--Matsui is one of its more appealing, and certainly most popular, exponents. A capable if not virtuosic player, she and her four-piece band (including a Japanese guitarist who seems to have listened to a lot more Jimi Hendrix than Jim Hall) offer up a generous set of 14 songs, all of them Matsui compositions. As titles like "Beyond the Light," "Night Waltz" and "Bridge...

2008-03-26 21:59:00 Second baseman Kaz Matsui could miss at least the first two weeks of the season, a slightly longer delay than originally expected by the Houston Astros the Houston Chronicle reported. A slower-than-expected recovery means Matsui could need four weeks to fully recover from surgery to repair an anal fissure, a tear of the skin near the anus that causes bleeding and discomfort.Under that timetable, Matsui, 32, would not return to the lineup until at least April 15, when the Astros begin a three-game series at Philadelphia. That means Matsui could miss at least 13 games to begin the season.

Astros' Matsui will miss start of season after surgery
2008-03-18 13:41:00 With time running out, the Houston Astros are preparing to begin the season without second baseman Kaz Matsui according to the Houston Chronicle. Matsui, 32, underwent surgery Monday to repair an anal fissure and will begin the season on the disabled list, team officials said. The expected recovery time for Matsui is two to three weeks. He originally was expected to miss two weeks. "I think we're probably headed that way," Astros general manager Ed Wade said. "With just two weeks to go before opening day - and the fact the recovery time seems now closer to three weeks and whatever time he needs to get his baseball skills back, it's a foregone conclusion he'll end up on the DL."The Astros will wait to officially put Matsui on the DL until the 25-man roster has to be set prior to the March 31 season opener at San Diego. The earliest Matsui, who signed a three-year $16.5 million contract during the offseason to replace Craig Biggio, would be eligible to come off the DL is April 5.
