Unravelling meaning of life through Buddhism
2008-05-31 12:19:00
Unravelling meaning of life through Buddhism Ajahn Brahmavamso is the Abbot of Bodhiyana Buddhist Monastery & Spiritual Director of the Buddhist Society of Western Australia, Perth. www.bswa.org By Ajahn Brahmavamso----------- The Sunday Times . LK Today, Buddhism continues to gain ever-wider acceptance in many lands far beyond its original home. The Buddhist Teaching of the Law of Kamma offers our society a just and incorruptible foundation and reason for the practice of a moral life. It is easy to see how a wider embracing of the Law of Kamma would lead any country towards a stronger, more caring and virtuous society. The Teaching of Rebirth places this present short lifetime of ours in a broader perspective, giving more meaning to the vital events of birth and death. The understanding of rebirth removes so much of the tragedy and grief surrounding death and turns one's attention to the quality of a lifetime, rather than its...

The Meaning of Life

All philosophy teaches us that the meaning of life is knowledge. Through knowledge, we evolve. Through knowledge we obtain happiness, and balance. Through knowledge and intelligence we create. Through knowledge we develop technology and science. Living solely for happiness isn?t logical, knowledge strives for far more details in the puzzle. If you consider yourself ?at peace? ...

The ultimate quest for happiness. What is the meaning of life?
2008-02-15 02:50:00
We live in a time like no other. We’ve essentially won the struggle for life and dominated the planet and now we wonder what the real purpose of life is. I could say that “the point of life is to live”. You may think that’s a bleeding obvious statement, but to succeed against all the ...
Reflections on the meaning of life
2008-02-10 10:27:00
I was a little bit "under" a average person as a kid coming from a lower middleclass family. As a teenager I was a average person, although in the top of the class for three years (although that was not hard in the class I was in :))Now I know I have experienced a lot more than a average person in my age and before I die I want to be this wise old grandmother that shares love, peace and wisdom with the loved ones around her.I guess that is the meaning of my life, growing as a person and becoming happier and wiser. But it is not the goal, it is the road that is important, otherwise my life would have no meaning

The Purpose And The Meaning Of Life
2008-02-07 07:34:00
The Purpose and Meaning of Life If God created us, then He has a purpose in our life. He gives us the meaning of life. Everything and everybody has a purpose in their lives. When you bake a cake, the cake has a purpose. When you create something at work, it has a purpose. When God created mankind He had a purpose for mankind. God's purpose as given to us by Jesus Christ is for us to have a loving relationship with God and with our fellow man. Jesus told us our purpose in Matthew 22:37-39 when He said, "...Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself". God Defines The Meaning Of Life, We Fulfill It By our actions Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 says, "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; ...

Tracking the Meaning of Life: A Philosophical Journey
2008-01-05 07:58:00
Yuval Lurie, Tracking the Meaning of Life: A Philosophical JourneyUniversity of Missouri Press | ISBN 0826216528 | 2006 | PDF | 2 MB | 338 pagesThis book relates a philosophical journey undertaken by the author in the hope of resolving certain concerns about his life that manifested themselves as quandaries about the meaning of life. Being concerned with my life and finding myself also perplexed by the question about the meaning of life, I turned first to see what other philosophers had to say about the question. This move turned in time into a lengthy philosophical journey that has extended over various regions of thought, a journey, in which, as may be seen, I track an extensive philosophical effort to deal with the question about the meaning of life. downloadrapidshare.comorw14.eas-y-share.com

I think if you are still breathing then you have found the meaning of life. I do not believe it is some complex intellectual formula of biblical proportions. What is the meaning of life? "Taking pain," said the nail. "Keeping cool," said the ice. "Driving hard," said the hammer. "Being up-to-date," said the calendar. "Being sharp," said the knife. "Making light around you," said the fire. "Sticking to it," said the glue. "Being bright," said the lamp. "Being on time," said the clock. "Saving a drop," said the faucet. And best of all, "learning from it," said the mistake.

Prediction Accuracy: 100% Additional Contents?... No General: Well, I must say it's nice to have this "Life" topic written up to part 10. Although each part doesn't seem to connect with each other sometimes, all of them are important, at least for me. Of course those older Life entries might be obsolete, but they can still generally be accepted.Sometimes there was just something I had never thought about. However just because I wrote those entries, I thought about the things I otherwise wouldn't have thought about. This is one of the many reasons I like blogs.Anyway, let's begin today's topic. Due to the way this entry is written, it has been split into a few parts.(Start)IntroductionSo...- I'm going to talk about the meaning of life huh? Hahaha...... You might want to ask me, "Who are you to talk about this?" Lol! Really, I'm not special. I'm just a normal person like everyone else. However, I just happen to like to think. As such, I will have a lot to talk about. If ...

A story is told by Robert Fulghum, a Unitarian minister, about a seminar he once attended in Greece. On the last day of the conference, the discussion leader walked over to the bright light of an open window and looked out. Then he asked if there were any questions. Fulghum laughingly asked him what was the ...
What is the meaning of life?

Trust me… life, by definition is outright meaningless. Once we get to the bottom line, that’s just how it goes; if you don’t believe me, look at all the hopelessly bored people filling up all the space around you. The very question of whether life has meaning has become such a hopelessly boring cliche that oftentimes I wonder if there is ...
Whats the meaning.. Whats the meaning of life?
2007-03-12 16:07:00
If we consider the event of kids in our life some of us are very expectant there are those of us who are repelled at the idea of kids in their estimation of the value of children (and only some of those go on to make repulsive parents!), but far in excess of the number of those people who are repelled at the thought of having their own kids are the number of men and woman who eagerly anticipate the event of kids. So we ask ourselves what is the real purpose of kids do we live for their benefit or they ours? Are expectant parents entitled to believe that kids (in infancy and through to adult life) will blindly serve their interests for the sake of their own happiness? Should parents expect that fate will decide the future both theirs and the kids? Trying to ascertain the reason that nature has provided the opportunity for kids is to look for the meaning of human life. That something which can be confirmed as the true reason for life is the unconscious basis for our attitudes towards ...

The Meaning of Life.

This is always a big question for everyone.  Why are we here?  What is the purpose for our existence.  This question has plagued the minds of many for centuries.  But where does the Modern Humanist fall in this equation? Whereas the religious can easily point to plenty of reasons and purposes like glorifying God, spreading the message, converting the heathens, fighting for the faithful, it is not as simple for the Modern Humanist. Where a religious person can claim lofty ideals and holy purpose that does not in any way impact humankind or require any impact, the humanist is faced with a purpose that does not lead to a blissful afterlife.  It’s hard to believe that a Humanist would be willing to blow himself up on a bus somewhere killing himself and 30 other people without the belief in a afterlife filled with virgins and ambrosia. But to me the meaning of life from he Humanist perspective is vital by the very fact that it is rooted in the now with the mission of serving humank...
