EVENTS SERVICE MEETUP GETTING FACELIFT, DEVELOPER API NEXT MONTH
2008-05-30 00:54:00 Meetup, the popular events management service will be undergoing several large changes in the next few weeks. According to an entry posted to the company's official blog last night, users new and old were watched while using the site to help restructure the design and layout. Screenshots have been posted showing a new look, which is possibly a little less important than the announcement of a developer API that's launching alongside it. Developers will be able to tap into a limited amount of the data found on the site for use in third party sites and tools. Personal information from members is not making the cut. Also new is an updated payment system that will be provided to social organizers who need better ways to manage events with a price tag. Meetup currently has PayPal, but the new tool will integrate Amazon Payments--a PayPal and Google Checkout competitor which launched late last year. What's smart is that the new system lets event planners set it up so that people who ...
belfast flickr meetup 25th may 2008
2008-05-26 11:14:00 It was a great weekend. Saturday afternoon though, was the Belfast Flickr Meetup at the Continental Market at the City Hall, with ...

Chicago Blogger Meetup May 1st!
2008-04-21 07:03:00 Recently I posted about escaping the monotony of mommy life and heading to Chicago for SOBcon 2008 the first weekend of May. That’s coming up fast, only 9 days away. 9 days of sweating and having nightmares dreaming about all the exciting people I’m going to meet at the conference. It’s going to be here before I know it. (I will survive this, right?) In the meantime, I’ve been keeping myself busy sending out invites to what I hope will be the talk of the weekend, a fabulous Chicago blogger meetup at O’Callaghan’s Irish Pub on Thursday, May 1st at 8pm. Paul O’Flaherty and I are planning this on behalf of FuelMyBlog.com and so far its looking to be a great turnout! So my friends, if any of you are in Chicago (yes lurkers, that means you too!) and want to drop by, we’d love to meet you. The event is open to bloggers of all kinds(podcasters/vidcasters too!), and you can earn yourself a free drink if you are a registered user of FuelMyBlog...

New York ?08: Chevy Volt fans invited to a meetup
2008-02-19 13:56:00 Calling all New York-area Volt-aholics: Lyle Dennis, the proprietor of GM-Volt.com (who also happens to live in New York) recently called up GM and asked them if they would consider hosting a gathering of Chevy Volt fans at the upcoming New York Auto Show and the company agreed. The Volt Nation event will be taking place at the Javitz Center following the press previews on March 19 at 4:30pm. Members of GM's Volt development team will be on hand to meet with fans and answer questions. Space is limited so you have to sign up in advance. Lyle is handling registration through his site so you can go there to get your name on the list. Apparently, sometimes it does take a brain surgeon (Lyle's day job). [Source: GM-Volt.com]

Seattle Law Blogger Meetup Recap
2008-01-17 03:20:00 Last night was the long-awaited Seattle Law Blogger Meetup at my firm, Graham & Dunn. We had a nice turnout — 15 law bloggers and five “aspiring” law bloggers. We had a spirited two-hour discussion, and about half hung around for another hour, so we must have been having fun. I know I was.Left to right: Conrad Saam, Chad Smith, Venkat BalasubramaniLarry Munn, and Mark Walters. Photo credit: Erin AndersonMy only frustration was a good one — there was so much to talk about, with so many great people, and we had so little time. In the end, we agreed to make gatherings like this a regular event. Once a year probably isn’t enough.Award for longest distance traveled goes out to Larry Munn and Jeffrey Vicq from the Canadian Trademark Blog, who came all the way from Vancouver, BC.Several attendees have already posted summaries of the event, so I’ll leave further recapping to them:Avvo’s Avvo&nbs-p;Blog post here...
STL Gearing up for the Seattle Law Blogger Meetup
2008-01-15 03:40:00 On Jan. 15, yours truly will host what I hope will become an annual event — the Seattle Law Blogger Meetup. The event is intended for local law bloggers to socialize and discuss the blogging experience. The agenda is open, but I personally want to hear what my fellow law bloggers have to say about the following:Why do you blog? What goals do you have? What’s been your most rewarding experience? What’s been your biggest disappointment? What’s been your biggest challenge? How did you overcome it?If there is anything you could change about your blog, what would it be?Where do you see legal blogging going in the future?Of course, I’m also interested in learning new tips on developing new content, expandin-g readership, avoiding problems in court, and maintaining law firm support.Based on RSVPs, it looks like we’ll have a good turnout, including many from my “Seattle Law Blogs” blog roll:Venkat Balasubramani of Spam ...
A great day in Georgia for our Ron Paul Meetup Group
2008-01-12 20:31:00 Sign Waiving In Griffin Georgia Man I had a great day in griffin working on the Ron Paul campaign. We had 30 people show up for the sign waiving. We had homemade signs, yard signs and a couple of 4 x 8 signs. We had a couple of guys going into the traffic giving out pamphlets. We had a video crew and the local newspaper reporter show up.We are suppose to be in the paper tomorrow. Again it was great because I was worried that the Ron Paul campaign could hurt the freedom movement but I WAS WRONG. A few weeks back I decided I would get active in the local meet up group to help Ron Paul. When I showed everyone was great I mean the people were awesome. They that it was cool I was the past political director in Georgia for the Lp. They started asking tons of questions. Some about campaigns I had worked on and a lot about Libertarianism. If we as Libertarian were smart we would get out and work with these folks. Most have never been involved with politics and t...
How to run a Meetup event. Lisa and the New York Italian language Meetup
2008-01-04 15:54:00 Meetup is quickly changing the panorama of events and the way people get together to share their common enthusiasm. I am a fan of Meetups in general and I have subscribed and attended several. I love the formula because it gives back to participants the event management and it is, although run by an organizer, an example of great democracy, co-creation and open approach. In this post I’ve interview Lisa who shares precious tips on the feeling and management of a Meetup. Meetup organizers perform a lot of tasks on a volunteer basis. Therefore they are exceptional people who dedicate a lot of time to their passion. The New York City Italian Language, Food, & Culture Club to date counts on 1,549 members and it has met up 117 times . The NYC Italian Language, Food & Culture Club meets a minimum of once a month to speak Italian and share their love of Italian language, food and culture. Their main focus is to practice speaking the Italian language, and their other goals ar...

Seattle Law Blogger Meetup Moved to January 15
2007-11-26 02:17:00 Darn it, the date I had picked for the Seattle Law Blogger meetup conflicts with the Federal Bar Association of the Western District of Washington’s annual dinner. I also had heard rumblings of other potential conflicts. So, I am moving the event, executive-decision-style, -to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15. I hope this date works better. Heck, by January, two or three more Seattle law bloggers probably will have joined our ranks. The suggested discussion points and description of the event are here. If you are a Seattle law blogger, I hope to see you there. Please mark your calendars, spread the word, and let me know if you can attend!

Your life? What benefits have you gained by blogging? How do you generate new content?Have you ever received a cease-and-desist letter?Have you ever censored yourself? What resources exist for learning about blog law?How have other lawyers reacted to your blog? The password is "fidelio."We had a list of goals when we started the We Love Saipan Network, one of them was to rise in the rankings of a google search for the word, "Saipan." This will give your blog more "google juice." If we have time, we'll also sign every blogger up for Digg. 2007-04-06 19:53:00 Both of our fearless leaders, Allan of Cellarblog and Leah of DcGastronome, were in attendance at the wine club happy hour! It was great to see Leah again and to meet Allan for the first. And I must say, Leah picked a fabulous place for the event.Piola is in Rosslyn and specializes in thin crust pizzas of every possible variety. They also have an awesome happy hour where wines by the glass are half price and appetizers are free and plentiful.I arrived just after 5:30 and already there were at least 6 wine club members in attendance. Over the course of the evening we had about 20 members attend, including several new people. It's always great to et the chance to meet more wine lovers! I started out with a glass of the house white, which is literally, the house's. Piola offers both a white and a red house wine, produced and blended in Italy with their name. The white Blanco Piola was light and fruity with notes of lemon and spice. On first taste I thought it had Chardonnay ...

Small dog meetup
2007-04-02 22:06:00 Yesterday we (GollyGear) were invited to set up a booth at a Small Dog Meetup on the north side of Chicago. Fran (above) and I had a blast - we got to meet so many wonderful little dogs (and their people)! And it seems that everybody loves shopping - many of the dogs loved hanging out with us. Of course, they could love us because we brought treats. Dogs are terrific examples of the philosophy of enlightened self-interest. There was only one, tiny little dust-up - when one of the little ladies objected to some brute sniffing her without permission. They both got over it in no time. Overall - I'd have to say a good time was had by all!
