Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Questions with MELROSE PLACE Star Michael Rady
2009-09-22 22:53:00
Between SWINGTOWN, GREEK and now MELROSE PLACE I think it’s safe to say that you’re having quite the year! Michael Rady: I’ve just been going from job to job pinching myself, first SWINGTOWN which the optimist in me didn’t think someone would let die, then GREEK which was a dream job and gave me the opportunity to work steadily pretty much for a season, and now MELROSE PLACE. I really have been so fortunate. Was there any trepidation about stepping into such an iconic apartment building? I didn’t really think about it. It really does nothing for me at all thinking about that kind of stuff. Our show is an entirely new show, set in the same place. Were you a fan of the original series? Only to the extent that my older sister watched it and I’d always be sitting on the couch asking, “What are you watching?” Pretty much all I remember is Heather Locklear and beautiful people sitting around the pool. Is Jonah the new Michael Mancini, the a...
Heather Locklear Returns to MELROSE PLACE, History Repeats Itself in More W
2009-09-22 16:08:00
After saving the original MELROSE PLACE from the brink of cancellation almost two decades ago, history is about to repeat itself thanks to this morning’s announcement that has Heather Locklear set to reprise her role as scheming vixen Amanda Woodward on the CW’s fledgling MELROSE PLACE re-boot starting November 17. And while our inner-teenaged TV Addict — you know, the one that was so obsessed with MELROSE PLACE that we actually had this poster (pictured above) on our wall is really really excited — our slightly older and far more realistic inner-adult TV Addict is worried. Especially when you take into account the CW’s press release that touts Heather Locklear joining “original castmates Laura Leighton, Thomas Calabro, Josie Bisset and Daphne Zuniga in the updated version for The CW.” Note the absence to any next gen tenants such as the deliciously manipulative Katie Cassidy or our favorite hooker-with-a-heart-of-gold Stephanie Jacobsen. It’...
You Be the Critic: 90210 and MELROSE PLACE
2009-09-09 17:43:00
Thanks to last nights much-anticipated return of 90210 and MELROSE PLACE the TV Addict finally gets to scratch that itch by typing those four magical words that we’ve been jonsin’ for all summer long, “You Be The Critic.” Which if you’re new to theTVaddict.com (and by the way, thanks for stopping by) is YOUR opportunity to post away with your take on last night’s television. But before you do, a few random musing if we may. As advertised, 90210 did in fact offer up a “New Beginning,” cleverly repositioning the series around the trifecta of talent that is Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord), Silver (Jessica Stroup) and Adrianne (Jessica Lowndes, sporting some much needed lush new locks!). Leaving sullen Shenae Grimes’ Annie Mills flying solo towards a dangerous downward path of booze, sex and public humiliation (Which gets much worse next week, just wait!) Just how much fun was last night’s 90210? Put it this way, between the much-impr...
Review: MELROSE PLACE
2009-09-08 15:41:00
By: Aleks Chan Aaron Spelling series are like the Velveeta of cheese: Mostly processed, it’s just cheesy enough to harbor an addiction if you eat enough of it. The MELROSE PLACE update, as long as we’re still going with the cheese analogy, would put the lactose intolerant into a diabetic coma. But for the cheese able (I’m done now), tonight’s premiere is a spread: Blackmail, prostitution, adultery, larceny, and murder, all delivered with heavy-handedness and contrivance, some even before the five minute mark. They say efficiency is an important asset during a recession. And it all circles around Laura Leighton’s scheming Sydney Andrews, raised from the dead and now landlord of the eponymous apartment complex, she sits perched, cougar-like, as her new tenants run around looking pretty and sharing problems, like when one is murdered and left floating bloody in the pool. Who died and who did it is beside the point, and not because none of the actors can effectively feign ber...
Laura Leighton happy to be back in 'Melrose Place'
2009-09-08 09:39:00
Laura Leighton returns to "Melrose Place" as Sydney. CW photosSydney and Auggie may have a love-hate relationship on the CW's relaunched "Melrose Place," but the actors who play them, Laura Leighton and Colin Egglesfield, obviously share a mutual admiration. It was evident during a recent interview at the Peninsula Hotel, when "Melrose" vet Leighton teased her younger co-star, with whom she shares many a steamy scene. When Egglesfield, who grew up in Crete and spent a lot of time in Chicago, denied that viewers will see him shirtless during most of those scenes, Leighton piped up....
On the Fly with… MELROSE PLACE Star Laura Leighton
2009-09-02 21:34:00
ON WHAT BROUGHT HER BACK TO 4616 MELROSE: “Who wouldn’t want to come back and play the character again?” exclaimed actress Laura Leighton when asked by the TV Addict to explain what drew her back to the role that put her on the map. “Sydney was one of my favorite characters ever to play and to get the opportunity to do it again… well, it was sort of a no-brainer.” ON WHAT IT FELT LIKE TO STEP BACK ON TO THE NOW ICONIC COURTYARD: “It felt like stepping back in time,” said the actress. “It was the same, but new and improved. Like the complex went through a very expensive remodel.” ON WHETHER OR NOT SYDNEY EVER REALLY DIES: “I can’t speak for the writer’s intentions. I’m just going along for the ride.” (A ride which begins Tuesday September 8 on the CW at 9PM, Wednesday September 9th on Global TV in Canada)
Inside the CW’s MELROSE PLACE Reboot
2009-08-26 17:11:00
By: Vlada Gelman This fall, the CW will reboot MELROSE PLACE with a whole new crop of fresh faces, but the series won’t be without some familiar faces too.  Laura Leighton’s Sydney is back to stir up trouble despite having died at the end of the original series’ fifth season.   “In episode three, we will take you back to that night and how it came about that she lived,” executive producer Todd Slavkin said at a recent Q&A for the new series.   “It was really important to have Sydney and Michael. They were the star-crossed lovers of that original series,” Slavkin said of Sydney’s resurrection. “When we went after them, we knew we had this albatross of she died in the original, but we felt like it was worth it. We convinced Laura that we have this great plan that she faked her death.”  And it looks like Sydney may have had some help.  “Something tells me she didn’t do it alone,” Slavkin teased.  The new MELROSE  will also welc...
Morning Static: Paula Abdul, MELROSE PLACE, FAMILY GUY & More!
2009-08-20 15:59:00
Welcome to our new morning round-up of big/interesting TV news that you may have missed over the past 24 hours because unlike us, there’s a fairly good chance that have a life outside of the small screen. Good News: Paula Abdul’s manager David Sonenberg is not talking to AMERICAN IDOL. Bad News: A fact that he takes great pleasure in reminding anyone who will listen every other day. [LA Times] Good News: Seth MacFarlane continues to release tongue-in-cheek ‘For Your Consideration’ videos for his Emmy nominated series FAMILY GUY. Bad News: And much the show itself — where MacFarlane and Co. have a nasty habit of running gags, well, into the ground — these youtube clips stopped being funny two videos ago. [YouTube] Good News: The future is now! With CBS and Pepsi teaming up to save the print industry put a video ad inside the upcoming Fall TV Preview issue of Entertainment Weekly. Bad News: This incredibly cool sounding video ad will only be sent to subscriber...
EVERWOOD + MELROSE PLACE = Why We Love GREEK!
2009-08-13 18:23:00
Thomas Calabro (Left) and Tom Amandes (Right) There is a very good reason that this TV Addict is obsessed with the hit ABC Family series GREEK. Well actually, there are a few, but putting aside for a moment the unbelievably likable cast and stories that 90210 only wishes it could deliver comes the upcoming September 7th episode which features ZBZ’s Annual Daddy-Daughter Day weekend and the inevitable fireworks that ensue. Particularly when Jordan’s sports-nut-of-a-father (played by EVERWOOD’s Tom Amandes) is shall we say less than thrilled to meet his daughter’s not-so-sporty boyfriend Rusty, while Rebecca’s disgraced father Senator Ken Logan (MELROSE PLACE’s Thomas Calabro) makes a much-anticipated return to Greek row.
TCA Live Blog Day 2: MELROSE PLACE
2009-08-04 20:30:00
MP Stars: Colin Egglesfield, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, Laura Leighton, Thomas Calabro, Katie Cassidy 11:00AM: Laura Leighton on Sydney’s return, “Playing Sydney the first time was such fun there was no downside to playing her again.” Thomas Calabro on Michael’s return, “I was very excited that he had even more money than before, ultimate power, and if he continues to be an evil dower it bodes well for that.” 11:02AM: When asked where MELROSE PLACE 2.0 will fall in terms of tone, producer Todd Slavkin promises that “it’s still the most scandalous address in West Hollywood.” 11:04AM: Ashlee Simpson-Wentz borrows a line from Britney Spears, proclaiming that the really innocent character she plays is… not so innocent. 11:04AM: Executive Producer Darren Swimmer doesn’t feel like there are lessons to be learned from 90210’s first season. Any readers care to educate him? 11:07AM: Spoiler Alert #1: Swimmer promises that S...
Good News, Bad News: MELROSE PLACE, Jennifer Garner & Steven Weber
2009-07-15 02:51:00
Good New: Daphne Zuniga has signed on to the CW’s MELROSE PLACE re-boot, agreeing to reprise her role as photographer Jo Reynolds for at least two episode this season. Bad News: Joining original tenants Josie Bissett [Jane], Laura Leighton [Sydney] and Thomas Calabro [Michael] and leaving this TV Addict increasingly concerned that the proverbial powers that be didn’t learn a thing from 90210’s unfortunate penchant for stunt casting, you know, in lieu of the actual hard work that comes with having to develop a whole slew of interesting new characters and story-lines. [Source] Good News: Jennifer Garner has inked a fresh development deal with ABC, the network that put her on the map. Bad News: The key word here being ‘development, one that, as Michael Ausiello so accurately put it, “calls for the four-time Emmy nominee to develop projects via her Vandalia Films production shingle.” Not act! [Source] Good News: Steven Weber is in negotiations to move...

Random Musings: MELROSE PLACE, Simon Cowell, NIP/TUCK & More!
2009-07-02 02:04:00
Who told Ashlee Simpson she could act? Her laughable performance is a weak spot in the surprisingly strong MELROSE PLACE pilot. Is Simon Cowell really worth $144 million a year? And if the show truly believes the nasty Brit is the big draw, what does that say about us as an audience that we tune in to hear him being a jerk? Can a show remain relevant if it airs two years after filming? Guess we’ll find out when NIP/TUCK’s final episode — taped in early June — finally airs… in 2011! Does the world really need TWO fragrances from Patrick Dempsey? This one’s easy: No. Next? Is there anything more disturbing that “slash fiction” in which STAR TREK’s Spock and Kirk get it on? Yes. The downright nightmare-inducing scenes depicted in Hustler video’s line of classic-TV-inspired porn, including a threesome between TREK’s Spock, Kirk and Uhura and a flick titled EVERYBODY LOVES LUCY in which… well, let’s just say that when...
Fall Preview 09: MELROSE PLACE
2009-06-04 18:23:00
You’ve seen the previews. You’ve heard the hype. Now there’s only one thing you want to know: Which of the new fall shows are worth watching and which should be avoided at all costs? In this continuing series, we give you the scoop on some of the most highly-anticipated shows of the season. Which will be the next GREY’S ANATOMY… and which will be the new JOEY? To kick things off, we check out The CW’s reboot of the camp classic MELROSE PLACE. Why We’ll Watch: If there’s one thing you want from a good — not to mention potentially-great — primetime soap, it’s a killer story. MP kicks off with a great one when the body of original bad girl Sydney is found — where else? — floating in the apartment complex’s infamous pool. But never fear: Flasbacks keep her portrayer, Laura Leighton, alive and well while propelling the story forward. The great thing about this opening gambit is that it’s a payoff for fans of the original series without alienating the new...
Snap Judgements: MELROSE PLACE, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE
2009-05-27 18:29:00
MELROSE PLACE According to the official CW description: The new MELROSE PLACE features a dynamic ensemble of up-and-coming stars, along with two original cast members reprising the roles they made famous: Laura Leighton as Sydney Andrews and Thomas Calabro as Dr. Michael Mancini.  MELROSE PLACE promises to deliver all the backstabbing and sizzle of the original series. According to this TV Addict: We’re cautiously optimistic, assuming of course that the proverbial powers that be learned a lesson or two (of five!) from the colossal disappointment that was 90210’s first season. Plus, having Sydney Andrews (Laura Leighton) and Michael Mancini (Thomas Calabro) back in our living room on a weekly basis to wreak havoc sure sounds like fun. VAMPIRE DIARIES According to the official CW description: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is the story of two vampire brothers obsessed with the same beautiful girl, and battling to control the fate of an entire town. According to this TV Addict: THE...

As Predicted: Sydney Moves Back into MELROSE PLACE
2009-04-06 17:38:00
In today’s edition of why one lucky network should be handing over big bucks, a corner office and a fancy title to this TV Addict, we take a look at yesterday’s late breaking news courtesy of the Hollywood Reporter that has actress Laura Leighton reprising her role as everybody’s favorite red-headed vixen, Sydney Andrews on the CW’s MELROSE PLACE re-boot. Something we should mention, we called for way back in March, when we wrote what would turn out to be the following prophetic plea: With Entertainment Weekly reporting that Heather Locklear has done the expected and turned down the CW’s much-publicized plea offer to return to MELROSE PLACE, can the producers please move on, come to their senses and offer Laura Leighton the starring role Sydney so richly deserves. Not surprisingly, Leighton joining the cast of ludicrously good looking tenants including Shaun Sipos, Michael Rady, Jessica Lucas, Katie Cassidy, Ashlee Simpsson-Wentz, Colin Egglesfield and...

2009-04-06 07:22:00
There have been a lot of rumors which Melrose Place 1.0 alumni would land on The CW's Melrose Place 2.0 and now The Hollywood Reporter has the truth who it will be. Laura Leighton aka Sydney Andrews will reprise her role as the landlord of the place. It will be interesting to see how they ...
Random Musings: BETTER OF TED, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER & MELROSE PLACE
2009-03-19 16:03:00
As if this week’s years-in-development-million-do-llar rebrand of NBC Universal’s Sci-Fi Channel to SyFy (a name that was coincidentally coined by friend of theTVaddict.com Michael Hinman over a decade ago) wasn’t evidence enough that Hollywood has officially run out of original ideas, check out these two eerily similar marketing campaigns for ABC’s new comedy BETTER OFF TED and ABC Family’s signature series GREEK. I can’t see the difference, can you? (more…)
Channel Surfing with C.T: AMERICAN IDOL, MELROSE PLACE, SNL & More!
2008-12-16 15:04:00
At what point does a spoiler stop becoming a spoiler? I was talking to someone recently about NIP/TUCK and why I was disappointed in the big season three reveal concerning the identity of The Carver. The person I was chatting with suddenly got so upset, I could only assume I had been wildly gesticulating — you know, to better illustrate my point — and somehow severed one of their primary arteries. “I haven’t seen that yet! I just got season one from Netflix!” they said, as if I should somehow have been aware that they were drinking from a water cooler nobody had been chatting around in five years. Another friend of mine was taken to task for having “revealed” the identity of a major character who dies in the Harry Potter series. (I’m not being vague out of fear that I might spoil a surprise for you, gentle readers, but because, um, it’s been SO long since I read the book in question or saw the movie it spawned that I can’t reme...
Melrose Place 2.0 getting One Tree Hillified?
2008-12-16 01:41:00

Good News, Bad News: MELROSE PLACE, STARGATE & SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE
2008-12-15 22:51:00
Good News: ONE TREE HILL creator Mark Schwahn has been tapped to write the pilot script for the CW’s MELROSE PLACE reboot. Bad News: Cementing the CW’s status as the one network that can’t seem to develop a television show that isn’t based on a book, movie and/or already established franchise. [Source] Good News: Sci Fi has announced that Robert Carlyle (24: REDEMPTION) has signed on to lead the new STARGATE UNIVERSE. Bad News: For Robert Carlyle’s career. I mean correct us if we’re wrong, but is STARGATE not where careers go to die? [Source] Good News: Saturday marked Amy Poehler’s SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE swan song. Bad News: For SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, who just lost the only cast member worth staying up to 11:30 for.
Good News, Bad News: Lauren Graham, MELROSE PLACE & Greg Grunberg
2008-10-29 03:00:00
Good News: GILMORE GIRL Lauren Graham is set to make her Broadway debut alongside Oliver Platt in the highly anticipated revival of GUYS & DOLLS. Bad News: This TV Addict is still paying of his Visa and AMEX bills from his last trip to New York. [Source] Good News: The CW is officially developing MELROSE PLACE Version 2.0 for Fall 2009. Bad News: 90210 Version 2.0 isn’t exactly must see TV. Although for some inexplicable reason, we’re still watching. [Source] Good News: The TV Addict just became friends with HEROES stars Greg Grunberg and Brea Grant. Bad News: And by ‘friends,’ I of course am referring to friends on Twitter, not friends in real life. Even though I know Greg Grunberg and I would so be “BFF” if given the chance! Melrose Place: Complete Third Season (2007)
2007-11-19 02:16:00
“Melrose Place: Third Season”Strife! Sex! Hit men! Bomb threats! This third season of the popular, long-running series introduced Kristin Davis (“Sex and the City”) as Brooke Armstrong, a not-so-sweet young lady who had nothing but trouble in mind for the glossy residents of Melrose Place, and who helped to push the series toward one mother of a cliffhanger. The show offers everything you expect from a nighttime soap opera--backbiting, infighting, greed, recklessness, people flat on their backs with others on top of them--and it does it well, as these things go, with one of the brighter high points being Heather Locklear as the conniving Amanda Woodward. It's tough to go wrong with Locklear, who rarely disappoints, and it's fun to revisit Marcia Cross before she became Bee on "Desperate Housewives." As a plus, the third season includes guest appearances by former porn star Traci Lords and game-show host Chuck Woolery. So, for fans of the series, naturally it's a must....

Melrose Place

Does anyone else miss that show? Well, it seems like I am sitting in front of the television watching Michael Mancini and Kimberly (remember her...she's now Brie from Desperate Housewives...didn't she remove her hair in that one crazy episode of MP??) in one of their moments when I listen to the stories coming out of my stepson's mouth about his mother. It amazes me that all of it is actually true.SS's mother (BM) started dating her younger sister's boyfriend about a year ago, while she was living in the same house with this younger sister. Younger sister dumped this boyfriend (yes, she was the one who got rid of this guy) and it couldn't have been more than a week later, we hear my stepson saying that his mother is dating this guy. Ewww.Drama ensues and the younger sister moves out of BM's house due to this fabulous new relationship between BM and used "boyfriend". About 3 months later, BM's house gets foreclosed on.BM then tells SS, "Oh, we are moving into "boyfriend's" h...

GREY’S ANATOMY: Melrose Place
2007-05-04 16:39:00
When the only words of praise I can conjure up with regards to last night’s Addison-centric episode of GREY’S ANATOMY was that it was awfully exciting to get to spend some time with ALIAS alums David Anders/Merrin Dungey (Sark and Francie respectively) as well as EVERWOOD’s Stephanie Niznik (Nina) — Shonda Rhimes and crew most definitely have some work to do if they’re hoping to turn their Addison edition into the juggernaut that is GREY’S ANATOMY. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy GREY’S ANATOMY: OCEANSIDE, I just expected so much more. A voice in the elevator! Horny immature Doctors! Wacky medical mysteries! Marital troubles and Chris Lowell shirtless! Did Addison take a wrong turn in LA and end up in MELROSE PLACE? Don’t get me wrong, I’m fully on board and will of course be watching the series when it inevitably gets picked up come Fall ‘08. I just hope that ABC takes the time to reign in creators Shonda Rhimes and B...
