That statement may be a bit much but it's how I felt after reading The Murder of King Tut. I don't think I've ever read a book on a moment in history where I felt like I was reading a novel. King Tut is not a 'big' book even though it is over 300 pages. The chapters are short and the lines are double spaced but what you learn about this time period and the events that lead to this young boy becoming a King is more than most dusty, voluminous text books would give. James Patterson also brings to life Howard Carter, the Egyptologist who found Tutankhamun. You can feel the passion Carter has for Egypt and of his delight in his discovery, just as you come to know the other main characters of Tut's life who are fleshed out by giving them emotion and detail. It reads so much like a James Patterson novel.As Mr. Patterson wrote midway in the book:"With all due respect, Dr. Cross and Li...

Joyeux Noel!Christmas Eve was low key here, assembling filling boxes after boxes of baked goods and preparing for dinner with the family today.Each year I put together a variety of treats and B. helps with the wrapping and of course tasting "reject" cookies. Pistachio and cocoa nibs cookies, chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter fudge, key lime meltaways, brownies, sables cookies, homemade marshmallows, truffles and salted butter caramel popcorn.Even though I would not mind starting with dessert, there is duck on the menu this year with a sausage and chestnut stuffing, sweet potato casserole, greens beans with pancetta, and wild rice. Dessert ? Well, I'll tell you more about this weekend...promise!We finished decorating the tree just the other night and I just love sitting in the dark looking at it. The magic of Christmas...a time for reflection and cheers, joy and remembrance......and also of a little fun....Looks like Santa had his clot...

I even got a Christmas card this year full of propaganda on the origins of the candy cane, most of which are debunked by Snopes (I am the Urban Legend police, but that's a whole other post). I don't like candy canes per se, but if you crush them up and put them in peppermint bark, I'm all over it. Lately, I've found some other great minty sources that are relatively inexpensive. 3 Musketeers Mint - I don't normally like 3 Musketeers either, too squishy and not enough chocolate. 2008-12-24 16:00:00 Jeff and the girls have been off this week and it has been non-stop fun. This morning we woke up with a sick little girl and a thrown out back momma. Guess we will slow it down a bit. I am also trying to keep up with my job and Christmas. Sounds stressful but it really isn't. Plenty of hours in the day, it is all good.Driving down the road to Mobile on Monday we got a phone call. We were on our way to tour the USS Alabama. The call was from Jeff's work. Remember how I told you that if a woman he works with gets pregnant he will be deployed? Well she got pregnant. However, the person on the phone said Jeff has to volunteer to go or they will send someone else. One person said Jeff is going whether he wants to or not, another says Jeff has to volunteer. Currently we are under the impression that he will not be going. It is my understanding that speaking of troop movements, telling exactly when and where military members are going is frowned upon.
