Love help: Funny metaphors used in high school essays - Help.com
2008-08-07 15:46:00 I've read this one before, a long time ago, so I had to add it to my collection. Good for a laugh to turn your frown upside down. Metaphors used by high school students Her face was a perfect oval, like a circle that had its two sides gently compressed by a Thigh Master. 2. His thoughts tumbled in his head, making and breaking alliances like underpants in a dryer without Cling Free. 3. He spoke with the wisdom that can only come from experience, like a guy who went blind because he looked at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it and now goes around the country speaking at high schools about the dangers of looking at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it. 4. She grew on him like she was a colony of E. coli, and he was room temperature Canadian beef. 5. She had a deep, throaty, genuine laugh, like that sound a dog makes just before it throws up. 6. Her vocabulary was as bad as, like, whatever. 7. He was as tall as a six-foo...

Creeping giants will swallow you wholeIt is like an enormous battle underneath the moonlit night Without you knowing the truest answer to the puzzle You shiver with a silent breath Upon your shoulders Death creeps upon you What do you do? Look away and pray to the Lord Is he listening? On the other hand, I think I am dreamingThis change on earth Needs to start this moment Eleventh Act Pop culture is a game of playing mind games It is a controlling eruption between the eyes of teens Watching it everyday without a goal in mind It sucks you in dry And never gives your brain a break A disease keeps on killing your brain cells ...

Vivid Story telling and metaphors

Right now I?ve Billy Bragg coming through the Speakers, New England.I?ve been thinking about film more and more lately, looking at the visual ways to tell a story, and wondering how they might translate into writing and carry the same tone. In particular, I was remembering a short film. I think it was called Tornado, or Hurricane. It was the summation of a young mother?s life and death as a junky, the Tornado reference came from The wizard of Oz. The story was jarring; she told her own narrative as the camera captured moments of her life; prostituting herself, ODing in public toilets, and eventually her death. Despite all this the narrator held a rose colored lens to it all, knowing that things would soon get better for her, and whenever things got tough, she?d let the tornado take her away. At the end of the tornado was the happy contrast, the dream she clung too. A house, a...

Life Metaphors
2007-12-27 03:38:00 I have amassed a collection of life metaphors. Some were personally authored by me, and some I obtained from the net and other sources. The comparisons of life to things and objects are very intersting to note and if you have other ideas please free to add one. Thanks. Have fun reading!Life is like a seed. It will never grow unless planted and nourished.Life is like a river. With all its bends and rapid falls, one must follow the right path or else you'll lost your way to the sea.Life is like a box of chocolates. You'll never know what you're going to get.Life is like a bagel. It's delicious when it's fresh and warm, but often it's just hard. The hole is the middle is its great mystery, and yet it wouldn't be a bagel without it.Life is like eating grapefruit. First you have to break through the skin; then it takes a couple of bites to get used to the taste, and just as you begin to enjoy it, it squirts you in the eye.Life is like a banana. You start out green and get soft and...
Mixed Metaphors on Iraq
2007-12-23 14:37:00 [From reading this article one would have to conclude that the U.S. is currently riding the back of a tiger in Iraq. Or to change metaphors, if and when we reduce our huge military and financial outlays in Iraq, such may light the fuse of a bomb ready to explode into civil war — ...
A Storm of Pain, and other shameless metaphors
2007-11-07 17:57:00 Humans are interesting creatures, not unlike animals in their desire to shun pain, to do what they can to avoid the sting of a wound, be it physical or emotional. About the time I stopped posting to my blog I had stepped into the axis of my pain, and I have to admit, it surprised me.Just weeks earlier I had been talking with my friend Mary, explaining that I had already mourned the end of my marriage three years ago. All that was left to grieve was the impact it was having on my children (can we say denial?). I was efficiently moving through my divorce, checking through these emotional steps like items on a To-Do list. That’s when the unbearable pain hit me, stealing my breath. Suddenly my heart resembled a split melon, wide and messy with emotion. I thought I was going to die, thought I wanted to die, and gravitated towards my ex, the only one who truly understood how much our divorce hurt. Not until this moment have I recognized two types of pain. One steals upon you slowly and b...

10 Metaphors That Changed The World
2007-09-10 12:58:00 The language of metaphors is the language of leaders. ?Knowledgeitis?, fast food and other metaphors.
2007-07-05 19:38:00 I have to admit, I’m a sucker for a good metaphor. A good metaphor just has a way of wrapping things up neatly — and is a great way to start a discussion. I came across a few interesting ones today that I want to share. First of all, there’s chronic organizational knowledgeitis. You have to ...
