Speak Up for Gay Rights at the United Methodist General Conference
2008-03-26 15:43:00 Soulforce, an interfaith organization that advocates for GLBT rights through nonviolent resistance, will be sending volunteers to witness at the United Methodist General Conference, which will be held in Fort Worth, TX on April 23-May 2. The United Methodists are the second-largest US Protestant denomination. According to Soulforce's newsletter, under current UM policy: Local UM pastors have the power to deny membership to gay and lesbian Christians. UM pastors are barred from performing marriage or commitment ceremonies for same-gender couples. Openly gay and lesbian people are banned from the ministry. Transgender people face potential exclusion from the ministry. Gay and lesbian youth are taught that being true to themselves is "incompatible with Christian teaching." Downtown’s First United Methodist Church: SOLD for $30M!
2008-03-19 06:45:00  It was just reported that Fifth & Columbia Investors LLC has purchased the Seattle First United Methodist Church for $30 million. The transaction also includes a building that was built in the 50’s (will be demolished for office space) and a building that was built in 1908 located between Marion and Columbia on 5th Avenue.

 I haven’t been able to seek any additional information on the plans for the beautiful church that many 5th & Madison residents enjoy, but will report as soon as I get word!

Police reports and court records indicate that 39 year-old James Ward Chapman III admitted to inappropriate touching. As is generally the case with this sort of offense, it appears that this was not Chapman's first foray into sexual depravity and that the church had prior warnings about him.Police indicated that Chapman has generated prior complaints of inappropriately hugging teen church members, and Rev. Dan Morley confirmed that teens have complained to him about Chapman.
