According to Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times, the entire White Sox coaching staff, including hitting coach Greg Walker, pitching coach Don Cooper, bench coach Joey Cora and first base coach Harold Baines, received contract extensions Wednesday afternoon that will keep them all with the club through 2011. The Dallas Morning News' Tom Cowlinshaw believes Kevin Millwood's $12 million option for 2010, which vested Monday, is a fine deal. "If you're general manager Jon Daniels or team president Nolan Ryan or manager Ron Washington and you're going to be judged next season by how much your team lives up to this overhyped notion that 2010 is the Rangers' year," Cowlinshaw writes, "you need Kevin Millwood on that wall." The Giants haven't quite figured out the Mets yet, or how to pitch David Wright for that matter. The Mets have rolled into San Francisco and taken the first three games of a four game set vs. the Giants, including laying a flat-out beating on the 45-year old Randy Johnson, and twice beating all-star closer Brian Wilson.In the last post, I touched on how The Unit's season has been pretty much hit or miss so far. My only excuse is that I'm worried bigtime that Mets GM Omar Minaya will make another "brilliant" move, one on the order of his Moises Alou or Luis Castillo ploys. A plea to not trade Carlos Beltran.

Cubs! Mets! Tropical Storm! No gas! Economy! Debates! No debates! Oh, sorry, I got carried away. So, the final Cubs-Mets game is scheduled for tonight. But there's also a bunch of rain supposed to hit at some point because of a tropical storm that is currently passing my way down here in the South. If the teams do play (and hopefully so, because the last thing I want is for the Cubs to have to go back to NY on Monday), it will be Rich Harden (and all his anatomy that the gals and Carl/GD love) against Pedro Martinez, who some on here love, and some on here can't stand. Added a poll for fun. Kind of opposite from one I did earlier. Not national TV tonight, just Comcast. But that's OK because the ONE-HOUR PREMIERE OF THE OFFICE IS TONIGHT! Splendid.

Well, better now than in a couple weeks. Pretty sweet cover shot though. And fuck curses. Fuck them right in the ear, as Stan from South Park would say. As for the game, watch as the Mets try to avoid another heartbreaking collapse! Vegburger Helper's game-winning blast allowed the Brewers to keep pace last night, here's hoping that all of these teams are so exhausted in trying to make the playoffs that they just lay down for the Cubs, whoever they end up playing. Pitching tonight for the Cubs is Carlos Zambrano, who followed up his incredible no-hitter with a crappy yes-hitter (kudos to you, Sir Carl, on that line, one of your best yet). In his defense, Zambrano did just attend the funeral of his grandmother, so his focus wasn't entirely on the baseball field. And now apparently he's on a media boycott and issuing quotes like this, to the Daily Herald: "Lou is sometimes a hard guy to deal with because he's very quiet," Zambrano said. Okay then Is anyone else as bored with this last week as I am? I just . . don't. . . care. I want, nay, I NEED, a break from caring. Apparently, though, we're supposed to care, because these last few games still affect who we play. Here are the current wild card standings as of right now: Mets    - 0 Brewers - 1.5 Astros  - 4.0 And the whole thing shakes out like this: We play the DBacks (Ach--I don't want them)if they win the West and Milwaukee wins the WC. We play the Dodgers if THEY win the West and Milwaukee wins the WC We play the Phils if they win the WC. We play the Metsies if they win the WC. So I know we've been discussing this all weekend, but I thought I'd put it all together in one place. I don't care who we play, as long as it's not the Mets, Phils, DBags or Dodgers.
