D-Backs Pitcher Micah Owings Is Looking To Go Deep!!!
2008-05-19 20:00:00 05/20/08 POINTSHAVERS.COM - The Arizona DiamondBacks pitching staff has really taken on a personality all of its own. Leading the way is ace pitcher slash homerun king Micah Owings. This year, Owings (5-1 W-L, 3.91 ERA) has pitched very well; but the really cool part about Micah's game is his uncanny ability to hit homeruns as a starting pitcher in the National League. So far, so good. Owings is batting .357 (10-for-28) with one homer. It is not uncommon to see pitchers hit the ball well in the National League. However, what makes Owings so special is that he has been occasionally used in a pinch hitting situations for the D-Backs. Not many managers have this much confidence in their pitcher's hitting ability -- the only other example that comes to mind is Carlos Zambrano of the Chicago Cubs.Owings will be taking the mound tomorrow against Mark Hendrickson (5-2 W-L, 3.91 ERA) and the first place Florida Marlins. That's right, the Marlins are currently in first place in th...

Micah Owings adds another
2008-04-22 04:05:00 Even though the SF Giants offense isn't the most feared in baseball right now, Micah Owings posted another solid outing in netting his fourth win on the season. Owings threw 97 pitches in 6.1 innings to get the victory. He held the G-men to two runs on five hits while striking out four, walking one and plunking two others. The D-Backs are red hot and Owings is falling right into line with the rest of em'.

Follow-up to Not a Sleeper: Micah Owings
2008-02-17 05:15:00 Some good info from John Sickels and another blogger. In John Sickels' ongoing series "Not a Rookie" (yes, it appears I stole my title from his site! Although I'm not totally sure, I probably subconsciously did...sorry John), he profiles Micah Owings. The key takeaway from the article is the following paragraph: "I see him as an inning-eater type who should maintain his current level of
Not a Sleeper: Micah Owings
2008-02-09 23:27:00 An analysis of popular deeper-league sleeper Micah Owings. In a departure from my previous 2 strategy articles relating to straight drafts, it's time to get back to what I've been itching to do: write about more individual players! This article will be the first in a series looking at pitchers I've seen mentioned as a sleeper in various league types in which I disagree. I have decided to devote

Micah Owings - It?s a Small World
2007-04-07 18:09:00 A friend of mine’s — co-worker’s — friend’s — son is Micah Owings. This was a shocking revelation to me. I’m only 4 degrees of separation from THE Micah Owings who made his big-league debut yesterday. More importantly, he picked up the win, throwing 5 innings of 1 hit ball while striking out 6 and walking 3. That’s a pretty good start for the rookie who pitched against the Nationals; possibly the worst team in recent history. It’s only his first start, but his control was definitely off since he hit 2 batters, and threw 1 wild pitch. The 3 walks weren’t so wonderful either. He hasn’t exactly been a control master in the minors either, walking 34 batters in 88 innings (BB/9 of 3.60) in AAA. It’ll be interesting to see how he pitches next time against Cincinnati. - The great Albert Pujols has just 1 hit in 13 at-bats this season. He’s still walking a healthy 19% of the time, so there’s still 43 Major L...

Micah Owings: Diamondbacks Starting Pitcher Sleeper
2007-03-14 12:38:00 Micah Owings, the 24 year old top Arizona Diamondbacks pitching prospect, is looking good this spring. He needs to, as a good spring might be the only thing that will keep him in the DBacks rotation. Last season his minor league numbers looked like this: AA 12GS 6-2 2.91ERA 74.1IP 69K 17BB AAA 15GS 10-0 3.70ERA 87.2IP 61K 34BB Owings is competing with 4 others for the #5 spot in the rotation. Owings has the best spring ERA of the bunch and, if the decision is based on spring numbers, seems to be the front runner. Here’s his spring line so far: 2007 3G 2GS 0-0 1.29ERA 7.0IP 8K 3BB His K/BB in AAA Tucson is a bit scary at 1.79, but if you look at his whole year, last season it’s 2.54. As of right now, Owings is a great keeper league option and you can take him in the late rounds of your NL only drafts. Technorati Tags: Micah Owings, Arizona Diamondbacks
