Packers suddenly thin at defensive end
2007-08-20 15:52:00
Green Bay Packers defensive end Michael Montgomery was one of four players to have MCL injuries Saturday night in the preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. His injury leaves the Packers in a little more precarious position at defensive end than the team might prefer."Depending on the severity of the strain or tear, MCL injuries generally take two to six weeks to heal ? six weeks if the ligament is completely torn," reports Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "Montgomery's injury appeared among the worst of the four, and he had his arms around the shoulders of two people as he limped to the tunnel that leads to the locker rooms at halftime. He also sustained a torn posterior-cruciate ligament and sprained MCL in his right knee in practice on Dec. 6 last year that ended his 2006 season, though it's unclear whether he injured the same knee Saturday night."On the assumption that Montgomery would be out an extended period of time, that leaves the Packers without any b...
Injury update
2007-08-19 16:00:00
There were a handful of injuries that could impact the future of the players trying to make the Green Bay Packers' roster. "End Michael Montgomery, receiver Shaun Bodiford and tackle Orrin Thompson, as well as (Ryan) Powdrell, each sustained a medial collateral ligament injury and likely will miss at least a couple of weeks, Packers coach Mike McCarthy said," reports Tom Pelissero of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.It will be interesting to see what the Packers do with these players seeing as none of them is assured of a roster spot, although Montgomery would be the closest of doing so. Thumbs up photo of the day (8/14/2007)

Today's thumbs up goes out to Larry Birdine, a backup defensive end looking to nab a backup job with the Green Bay Packers. "Defensive end Larry Birdine, a free-agent rookie from Oklahoma, is getting better," reports Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "He applied constant pressure playing the last 2½ quarters in Pittsburgh and gave great effort Monday in the one-on-one drills. Birdine isn't an easy mark for anyone these days." Birdine led the Packers in tackles with six during Saturday's preseason win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Packers are thin at end behind Cullen Jenkins, Aaron Kampman and Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila. It could be a place where a player could steal a spot. Of course, Birdine would have to show more potential than Michael Montgomery and Jason Hunter.Welcome to the Railbird feed. Eat up.
Interview: John Michael Montgomery Talks About Catfish & Frog Legs

After Jenna wrote the article about John Michael Montgomery’s new album, we got in touch with the fine folks over at Hallmark Direction Company to find out if they would help us out with getting a few questions answered by Mr. Montgomery himself. Unfortunately, it’s still a little early in the album planning game, so there aren’t many details surrounding the album. However, we came up with a few random questions and tried to have some fun with them. John Michael was kind enough to answer them and show that he has a sense of humor as well. How did you decide that it was time to reunite with Hallmark Direction Company and release a new album? I have always followed my instincts when it comes to music and life in general. They were telling me very loudly that it was time for John D., Hallmark and I to get back together. This is your longest break to date between studio album releases, what have you been doing with all the spare time? I have been trying to heal my bo...
