Big Ten has ties to SI?s Fortunate 50

Although it’s not as many as Big Ten fans would like to hear…. Sports Illustrated names a list of what they call the “Fortunate 50″, which is a spin of the business world’s “Fortune 500″, but this is just for athletes. This takes into account not only the salaries that the players make, but also ...

Big 10 places 2 on NFCA All-American Team
2008-05-29 21:30:00
Northwestern and Michigan have pretty much been the class of the Big 10 in terms of softball for the entire 2008 year. Sure, Iowa looked pretty good at times, but the Wildcats and Wolverines certainly dominated when it came down to it. So it really wasn’t a huge surprise when the two players that got ...

NFCA names 13 Big 10 softballers to All-Region
2008-05-16 20:58:00
We all knew that the Big 10 was strong in softball, but how’s this for a number: 13. That’s how many players were selected by the NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) to the All-Region teams that are broken down into nine regions across the country. This once again gives credibility to the strength that ...

After being taken by the New England Patriots with the 78th overall pick in the draft, Shawn Crable had his chance to be grilled by the Boston media. Do you have any experience playing in a 3-4 defense and how do you see yourself fitting in? “No, not really. But I played a lot of outside ...

The New England Patriots traded one of their 3rd round picks (69th overall) to the San Diego Chargers for the Chargers 5th round (160th overall) pick this year and their 2009 2nd round draft choice. The Patriots used the 78th overall pick to take Michigan DE/OLB Shawn Crable from Michigan. Crable projects to play outside linebacker ...

Big 10 Basketball Tournament Preview: Wisconsin-Michigan State Matchup
2008-03-15 17:38:00
While the Wisconsin-Michigan and Michigan State-Ohio State games weren’t as dramatic as the night session’s games, it still showed the air of dominance that these two teams have played over a long string of time; defense first, execute, lull teams to sleep, win games. Boring but efficient–and Bo Ryan and Tom Izzo wouldn’t have it ...

Big 10 Tournament Preview: Iowa-Michigan
2008-03-13 04:30:00
When it comes to 8 and 9 seed matchups, especially in conference tournaments, teams are normally pretty well matched up in terms of records and even statistics. In the case of the Iowa Hawkeyes-Michigan Wolverines matchup, you can’t get much closer with two teams.
Michigan Softball goes to OT again to beat UCF
2008-02-29 00:09:00
It’s expected that you will have to go into extra innings with baseball at least a few times a year. But for the Michigan Wolverines softball team, it did this two games in a row–against the same team. How’s that for an even matchup? For the 12th-ranked Wolverines, it was a little too close for ...

Lloyd Carr, the Michigan Wolverines National Championship coach is stepping down as we speak in a press conference that was scheduled today after another loss to rival Ohio State.  I am sure that Buckeye fans are pissed because at least with Carr leading Big Blue, they are almosg guaranteed a win. http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/st-ory/7462420 Share This

Tuesday means it's time to peruse the sports message boards to see what kind of douchebaggery is sprouting up.ESPN.com - NFL Board: "Can any black players speak well? Watching Emmitt Smith and Keyshawn on ESPN is brutal. Can anyone except Tiki Barber speak well? That is why I like that guy - he is a refreshing image of a black NFL player that isnt seen nearly enough." - 33Tony33Dorsett33ESPN.com - College Football Board: "Why Does OJ Keep Getting Set Up? First the racist LAPD sets him up for the murder of his x-wife, and now he's being set up for stealing his own stuff? What gives?" - orngandbluESPN.com - College Football Board: "why is everyone downgrading michigan? just becuse michigan losees 2 games you guys start to jump them if this was a different school no one would even care but listen up im promise a win next week and then a big ten title at the end of the season. go blue" - judebhamGangGreen.com - NY Jets: "It starting to look like that EM was only a good coach because ...
Michigan Wolverines Not in the Top 25
2007-09-04 23:46:00
One of the biggest upsets in college football happend on Saturday as Michigan got beat down by a more talented team of guys from Appalachian State. It was clear that Appalachian State came to play football and Michigan wasn’t prepared for that. The Wolverines were much more prepared to play a cupcake team and they ...

Message Board Marauder - Michigan Edition
2007-09-04 15:32:00
Tuesday's at DOTD mean that it's time to peruse the sports message boards and see what fans are spouting off about. Today, in light of the epic meltdown by Michigan's football team (which we saw, thanks to DirecTV), led by "head coach" Lloyd Carr, we will try and capture the true voice of Wolverines fans. And they're pretty pissed.(Disclaimer: DOTD has never particularly liked Lloyd Carr. While we respect Michigan, Carr always came across as a grumpy, pompous old bastard. It has always amazed us that he got the players he did when they could probably be playing for someone who A) looked like he enjoyed breathing, and B) didn't have the personality of a Mr. Burns/Grinch evil clone.)WingedHelmet.com: "F*ck, i think I'm going to get drunk...and F8ck the first drunk slut that will have me...night." - Ufers SpiritMLive.com: "YOU People - I'm talking, of course, to those of you who will 'look on the bright side,' say 'it's all ok,' contend 'we're still playing for the Big Te...
Boo-Hoo Big Blue
2007-09-02 08:13:00
Don't say that I didn't sort of call it...(Proof). After possibly the largest upset in college football history what else did you expect me to write about?First off, hats off to the Appalachian State University Mountaineers! You should be very proud and you are part of a great, great program that I think will become 3-peat D1-AA (FCS) National Champions this season, and you probably belong in the D1-A (BCS).Next, Wolverine players, coaches and fans you should be ashamed. No D1-AA (FCS) team has ever beaten a top 25 AP ranked team. Now they've beaten a top 5 AP ranked team! Not only was the game just embarrassing for the Wolverines, but I want to know who the hell thought it would be smart to play Appalachian State for a season opener? Did they think it would be a warm-up game like many other top-ranked teams had? That was a HUGE and catastrophic scheduling mistake. There are a lot of BCS teams that they would have been better off playing, rather than just another one of those FC...
APPALACHIA WHO??? [J. Mark English]
2007-09-02 06:37:00
Every first weekend of a college football season brings about some game where a top ten team gets threatened with a big upset, and then pulls it out in the end. And it would be normally very difficult for the top ten team to lose because they are playing a rank amateur opponent to guarantee a nice win to start of the season. The division I-AA school they play against has no problem with being the sacrifical lamb, because they're school gets a lot of money out of it, as well as TV recognition, and everyone is happy.Until today...Appalachian State University, a Divison I-AA school, took down the might Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor, upsetting the number five team in the nation. Where the hell did this come from??I've directly to ASU's website, and so here is the recap of one of the most shocking upsets you will ever see:Dexter Jackson sprinted through the secondary early in the first quarter, taunting nearly 110,000 Michigan fans by putting a finger over his lips en route to t...
Appalachian State Defeats The University of Michigan Wolverines 34-32!!!
2007-09-01 21:42:00
Today was the greatest upset in College Football History. Appalachian State defeated The University of Michigan Wolverines 34-32, at Michigan's Season Opener at the "Big House." This was nothing but a total embarrassment for the Michigan Wolverines. They should have won by a landslide. It is time for Lloyd Carr to be fired or resign. End of Story. When he recruits the greatest athletes and football players in the Country and continues to show up to the game ill-prepared (career bowl record of 5-7. Furthermore he has gone 1-4 in the past five years in bowl games), it is time for him to go.There is no excuse for losing to a B-level team when the University of Michigan was ranked #5 in the Country coming into this game. Now their season is over before it started. Consider this an open thread.Related EditorialsUFC 74: Randy Couture Defeats Gabriel Gonzaga !! (Open Thread)

Time for our weekly look at douchebags on fan message boards. With college football season starting, we focus on that this week. No other sport brings out the worst best in people like college pigskin.ESPN.com - NCAA Football General: "Which players do u think r secretly gay in college football? just wondering what u all think." - danl1985ESPN.com - NCAA Football General: "BEST TRADISHUN! BAMA GAT IT ALL 12 NCSROLLLLLL TIDE ROLLLLL" - SKSsDadESPN.com - NCAA Football General: "Gator defense WAY BETTER THAN NFL defense. Last year the gator defense must of been better than NFL defense's because they did what the NFL hasn't done. They stopped Troy Smith completely." - JimTrenzel ESPN.com - Notre Dame Board: "ND at best will be 6-6 this season and that is because of willingham and the 7 player senior class. College Football 2007 Conference Preview: Big Ten
2007-08-14 00:18:00
The Big Ten has been very competitive in the BCS race and always produces some of the top tier teams in the country. Look for Wisconsin and Michigan to be the ones competing for a chance to play in the BCS National Championship game, with Ohio St., Penn St., Purdue, and Iowa not far behind.Predicted Order of Finish1. WisconsinThe offense should be solid even after losing QB John Stocco and T Joe Thomas. Tyler Donovan is battling with KSU transfer Allan Evridge for the starting QB job but Donovan looks to have the upper hand. Donovan has some experience replacing Stocco while he was injured last season. Heisman Candidate PJ Hill returns at RB, he rushed for 1,569 yards and 15 touchdowns while he led the Big Ten in all-purpose yards. They also return a solid WR corps and one of the best TEs in the land in Travis Beckum. The defense should be rocking with 8 starters back that includes DE Matt Shaughnessy, CB Jack Ikegwuounu, and LBs Jon Casillas and DeAndre Levy.2. MichiganThere is no ...
College Football Games of the Year
2007-07-07 06:26:00
The 2007 College Football season schedules officially came out earlier this week, so now we'll take a look at the best of the best of all the games.September 1Tennessee at CaliforniaThis game should be at least better than last years game with the Vols drubbing the Golden Bears. Both teams are heavy contenders to win their own conferences and are legitimate contenders for a BCS Bowl game as well. Early Prediction: CaliforniaSeptember 3Florida St. at ClemsonBowden Bowl V will take place on Labor Day Weekend. Tommy has handled his dad pretty well winning the last two and three of four overall. This is a huge early game to get a jump start in the ACC and FSU cannot afford a loss here with their tough schedule as it is.Early Prediction: ClemsonSeptember 8Virginia Tech at LSUTwo of the countries top defenses will meet at one of the most hostile environments on CBS. Both teams return a lot of talent; this should be a great game with players such as Matt Flynn, Jacob Hester, Early Doucet,...
