On Wednesday, Obama gave a rally at Van Andel Arena in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. Obama did not campaign in Michigan before the Michigan primary because he agreed not to in accordance with the Democratic National Committee. Michigan was stripped of their delegates as a consequence of moving their primary before February 5th. Michigan Supreme Court : No More Health Benefits for Gays’ Partners
2008-05-09 03:59:00 Yesterday, the Michigan Supreme Court decided a case dealing with whether or not public employers are allowed to provide health care benefits to partners of homosexuals. The Court reached that decision in a 5-2 vote in the case of National Pride At Work v. Governor of Michigan. Here’s an excerpt from the opinion, written by Justice Stephen Markman:  We granted leave to appeal to consider whether the marriage amendment, Const 1963, art 1, § 25, which states that “the union of one man and one woman in marriage shall be the only agreement recognized as a marriage or similar union for any purpose,” prohibits public employers from providing health-insurance benefits to their employees’ qualified same-sex domestic partners. 2008-04-26 23:30:00 WASHINGTON (AP) - A plan to award half-delegates for the disputed Michigan and Florida Democratic presidential primaries will get a hearing before party leaders. The co-chairs of the Democratic National Committee's Rules and Bylaws committee sent members a memo Friday announcing a meeting May 31 to consider the idea. The committee stripped Michigan and Florida of their national convention delegates because they held primaries too early. DNC members in Michigan and Florida have filed challenges to restore the delegates. Under the challenges, all superdelegates from both states would get to vote. The pledged delegates would only count for half votes. Hillary Rodham Clinton won both contests and has been pushing for the delegates to be seated. Her rival Barack Obama has said it isn't fair to award delegates based on the votes because all the candidates agreed to boycott the contests and his name wasn't on Michigan's ballot.
