In most homes, the microwave has been relegated to doing duty as a beef defroster, popcorn popper, and coffee hotter instead of using is as the great device for real food preparation that it actually ... Heating a Water in a Microwave? Think twice!
2009-04-29 07:39:00 Just received an e-mail today on my Yahoo Groups that I want to share with you guys. A 26-year old man decided to have a cup of coffee. He took a cup of water and put it in the microwave to heat it up (something that he had done numerous times before). I am not sure how long he set the timer for, but he wanted to bring the water to a boil. When the timer shut the oven off, he removed the cup from the oven. As he looked into the cup, he noted that the! water was not boiling, but suddenly the water in the cup 'blew up' into his face. The cup remained intact until he threw it out of his hand, but all the water had flown out into his face due to the build up of energy. His whole face is blistered and he has 1st and 2nd degree burns to his face which may leave scarring. He also may have lost partial sight in his left eye. While at the hospital, the doctor who was attending to him stated that this is a fairly common occurrence and water (alone) should never be heated in a microwave ov...

Microwave vs conventional ovens
2009-02-12 03:57:00 [From Yes] Microwave Ovens I’ve always thought microwave ovens are energy-hungry and emit dangerous radiation, but now I hear that they are actually more sustainable than conventional ovens. Is this true? According to Louis A. Bloomfield, professor of physics at the University of Virginia, cooking with microwave ovens is neither energy-hungry nor dangerous. In fact, compared to ...

Quick Coffee Cake in a Microwave
2008-12-02 11:43:00 For past few days hubby and son keep craving something sweet after meals. I mean my son has always favoured sweet more than spicy but hubby dear is going even further and asking for desserts everyday. It's quite unusual for him. It's probably all the Christmassy ads on TV showing all different kinds of yummy desserts that is causing these cravings. It's also maybe because it's winter it really feels nice to tuck into a hot dessert after dinner while sitting warm and cozy in front of the telly. So I just went out and bought a few ready to eat desserts that can be like warmed up in the microwave for a few seconds. But then I also browsed the internet for some easy to make desserts and came across some pretty good stuff. What caught my eye this time was this very fast to make Coffee Cake that can be baked in 5 mins flat in the microwave. I am great fan of "coffee anything" and immediately got down to making it. There was also a butter frosting in the recipe and I had my usual doubts...

Microwave Power Dividers
2008-05-06 22:57:00 Power dividers and combiners are used in microwave frequencies because of the different behavior of circuits. In microwave frequencies, the modeling of the circuits are different from the expected lumped model. Therefore, power dividers in microwave frequencies are not just resistive power dividers as in the low frequency or DC model. The important issues while using power dividers, are the specifications or properties of the dividers. In microwave frequency applications, for example power can be reflected from the output ports. Then to avoid the reflected power expected power divider should satisfy the maximum power transfer theory, which says the impedance of the load should be the complex conjugate of the impedance seen from the load end when load is not connected. This is called "matching" of the ports. This leads to transferring maximum power to the load and because of no reflection, avoid to burn out the power supply. Also, again for maximally transfer the power to the output p...
